My comments were made before his rather expensive loan signings ! If it makes you feel better I will hold my hands up and say that I may have underestimated him, lets just hope that they don’t become like Arsenal, content with finishing 3rd or 4th every season whilst winning fuck all !
They’ll have to be content with 3rd or 4th every year because Everton simply don’t have the money to compete with City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, United or even Spurs.[/quote]
So the domestic cups are beyond them as well ? There is something wrong with the game when one is happy just to gain entry into the Champions League as is the case with many Arsenal fans ! They did a piece on that very same issue last year on Talksport and whilst some fans were disgruntled with the lack of silverware, many were more than happy to qualify for Europe knowing deep down that they had no chance ! They are even prepared to put out weakened sides in the domestic cups in order to enhance their chances of CL qualification ! The board no doubt are rubbing their hands but for fans to condone this is a mystery to me ! What happened to competing to win !

No, domestic cups won’t be beyond on them, but you can’t plan a whole season around winning a knock-out tournament, because your season can be over on the result of one game.Martinez will probably be set the target of getting Everton into Europe each season because of the additional revenue it brings in, and if he picks up a domestic trophy along the way – it’s a bonus.
Arsenal on the other hand, are a completely different proposition to Everton. With the fanbase and money they have, they should be competing to win the league.
1 April 2014 at 7:10 pm #129226And Tottenham are a different proposition too.
The season started with new managers at Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. Wenger seemed to have lost his way at Arsenal, while Liverpool appeared to be still in transition.
Tottenham, with the proceeds from the sale of Bale, had a real opportunity to break into the top four. They have thrown it away!
What happened to competing to win?
Three clubs in the Premier League are competing for the title.
Six clubs are in mid-table, with a chance of winning a place in Europe.
Eleven clubs are fighting for survival. Perhaps we will be back amongst them next season.
4 April 2014 at 10:54 pm #129384This weekend; Everton v Arsenal
Next weekend; Wigan v Arsenal60 points after 31 games is Everton’s best ever total in Premier League history, surpassing the 57 they had mustered at this stage in 2007-08.
And there’s no sign of capitulation at Everton. They have won 15 points from goals scored in the final 10 minutes of matches this season, more than any team in the division.
No team has ever had 60 or more points after 31 games of a Premier League season and failed to finish in the top four. However, both Everton and Arsenal have now achieved this. Something has got to give.
Roberto looks well-placed to compete with Arsenal. Everton are without Jagielka, Pienaar, Oviedo and Gibson, but they have cover including Alcaraz. That doesn’t look too bad compared to Arsenal’s shocking injury list.
6 April 2014 at 9:26 pm #129482Everton 3 Arsenal 0
Bottom Four Bob has closed the gap between Everton and Arsenal with this convincing victory.
Everton are now just one point behind Arsenal but with a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
How long before Top Four Bob?

You better get your season ticket application in sharpish then.
7 April 2014 at 2:41 am #129514Martinez’s Everton have made a good start, good luck to him, so all the pundits are creaming themselves with superlatives about how much better they are playing, which to be frank is bullshit, these same pundits will rip him as soon there are a few poor results. The Guardian; What’s so special about Roberto Martinez?
Andy Hunter on why the Spaniard is now one of Britain’s best managers. The Independent; Rodgers and Martinez are returning merriment to Merseyside.
Twin motivators with positive outlooks are restoring their clubs’ reputations and bringing new belief to their players. The Times; Martinez has the chance to turn vision into reality for Everton.

They played Arsenal off the park. That’s down to tactics not luck.
Moyes inherited a Premiership winning team ……………………..
I don’t need to say anything else do I ?
7 April 2014 at 4:12 am #129524Moyes took over a team with a defence that as a combined age of 200, old purple nose could see the writing on the wall & jumped ship rather sharpish !

Ten years ago, he knew exactly how old these players would be today.
7 April 2014 at 1:41 pm #129533The honeymoon will soon be over for BOB !Everton have won six games in a row.
Everton 3 Arsenal 0; Everton have beaten Arsenal for the first time since March 2007.
Everton have taken 63 points from 32 games. In 2004/05, they finished in fourth place with 61 points. Osman says; Back then, we were a team out of possession. We’d basically let them have the ball and score on the counter-attack. This season, we are a possession team whether we win or lose.

Is the honeymoon over yet? Yes this might be the signs of a very happy marriage, or could Bob suffer a second season syndrome trying to juggle Champions League / Europa League footy with EPL?
Have to say, yesterday for the first time this season I was happy about Everton winning. Think Bob has done us a big favour for Saturday. All we need now is a big news story on Saturday morning linking him with Wenger’s job ;)
