The kit manufacturers pitch to supply the kits to clubs, so it’s not a case of the clubs choosing someone to make their shirts. The manufacturers chose the clubs.

For me Addidas supplied us with the best kits.
Best Football and Rugby kit manufacturer UMBRO made out of proper material. not all this nylon crap like today, and cost a fortune. and they were made locally. :)
There are videos of Stanley Choi playing poker on YouTube. I just have the horrible feeling this will all go very pear shaped and once he is bored of being involved with us, we will be allowed to go down the pan. This is a guy who risks millions playing poker, as a plaything. He is gambling on us getting into the Premier League, where the big bucks are. But what seriously concerns me is, I doubt very much he will be doing it for the benefit of Wigan Athletic, and should any big money come our way, it may well end up on the poker tables of Asia.
Honest to God, selling us to people with no interest in football? No knowledge or idea of football? And people who do things at a financial whim for a bit of a plaything of interest….Christ on a bike! I dread to think how this is going to end up. I am genuinely shocked at the Whelans for selling to this group. I get that they’ve probably had an offer too good to turn down, but there’s no way this sale will have the long term interests of Latics at the forefront, no matter what they say. That’s absolute bullshit. We are being bought as a whim. Oh dear God. I’m hoping the Football Association put the khybosh on this deal. Doubt they will Though.

Are you always so negative ?He’s entered six tournaments in the last 6 years. With combined stakes of approx. £500k he’s made around £7.2m. Doesn’t seem to be much beyond an occasional hobby.

It’s good to have healthy scepticism. That said, plenty of conclusions being jumped too. Do we know if he’s a football fan, does it even matter? On the commercial side I’d suggest Latics are in need of a fresh set of eyes and new direction. Those in place may already have promising plans, but all too often you need a little investment to get things started. That applies to plenty of things when you look around the club and stadium these days. It could do with a little sprucing up and sensible investment to make the most of the facilities we are fortunate to have.
Given our financial outlook many would have anticipated we’d sell Powell for half the £10m reported in some quarters. The fact we didn’t gives me some confidence there’s going to be an injection of cash. I’m not looking, or even think it’s realistic, to spend our way through the leagues, but it would be nice to have the security to hold onto our better players, and demand top prices when the time does come to sell.
People say “why Latics” and point to our support. But for any small-to-mid sized club, TV income dictates financial wealth (outside a benefactor). And ‘if’ we ever did get back to the Premier League, you can guarantee an 18k-20k average, on par with a number of current teams. If your looking for investment opportunities in English football, Latics is pretty good bang for your buck. £20m will get you a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Championship, a Premier League standard stadium and training facilities. Maybe they even threw in the building and land next to the North stand?
You could add a zero to that £20m, for club’s substantially bigger than us, with said facilities and assets. And will we ever really know the impact of winning the FA Cup and our years in the Premier League? In markets like Asia they’ve only been aware of English football in the Sky era.
Finally, I do have some confidence in Sharpe, Jackson and Cooke to do right by us. We’ve reportedly been subject to takeover interest numerous times, including an Irish consortium a year or two back. They where turned down as they couldn’t give the guarantees the club demanded.

How can you make any sort of informed judgement when so little is known. We’re in the hands of the people who’ve run the club for 20+ years and some other experienced hands. The long-term outcome may not be as we would wish, but that goes for any change in ownership.
So he’s a poker player. So what? He is also a very successful businessman. Dave Whelan is a tory and enjoys shooting pheasants.
He may not be the guy in charge day to day. He may just be the money man like Mansour at city.
There are possible positives and possible negatives to this but in no way will we cease to exist in 5 years.

Vat I can’t pretend that I don’t have similar fears, however whilst my immediate reaction was similar to your own, I think this is a gambler who appears
to win more often than he loses according to his poker results, which makes him a savvy gambler.
He’s also the owner of several substantial corporations, has a couple of degrees and this makes him no idiot either.I’ve no idea if we’re being sold lock stock and barrel for £20m but if we are that still a pile of money for a smart guy to shell out.
It’s reasonable to assume he has some ideas and if he is employing a guy like Gary Cook who has operated at a very high level then there must be some positives here to weigh against
the valid risks.A few ifs in there I grant you but if a professional poker player was ALL he was then I’d be more worried, but it seems he isn’t.
Well Mr cheerful VAT, you might as well start a conspiracy theory; along the lines of: Stanley took deep offence at Big Dave referring to a local Wigan restaurant as the “Chinky” and has plotted revenge by buying the DW (lock stock and barrel)with the intention of ruining Big Dave’s precious club and then turning it into a Chinese restaurant & Casino :evil: :evil: :evil:
I prefer my glass half full and put the trust into Big Dave that he will engineer a shrewd future of the Latics, as part of his lasting legacy to the town.
Oh and by the way; for any of the PC brigade: the use of the C—-y word is only offensive or racist if it is used as an adjective in conection with a person or a group of persons ( according to the BBC rules ).
