10 February 2018 at 10:05 pm #166210Sorry guys, but i too am with vat on this one & i’m usually quite positive. Thanks mate. I’m only speaking up because I care so much about this club, and dread how we are going to end up. The reality is, we are going from one extreme to the other, owners wise. Becoming a whimsical plaything of a billionaire gambler doesn’t instill me with much confidence. Everybody is hearing cash tills clanging, thinking he will throw daft money about for players. But what if he doesn’t? Will he even attend games, or is Garry Cook going to be his ‘face’ in the directors box? I’d maybe feel better about it if Jonathan Jackson was going to stay on board as a director, but I believe he isn’t. I don’t think much will change from how we are now, having to sell to buy. The worry will be that once the new owners realise we are even a small fish in the championship and it will be a struggle to get any higher, they will lose interest. And then god knows where we will be.
I don’t think we are the only ones who are having concerns, Runcorn. I think more and more are realising. But a lot just think we will suddenly be powerful with an open cheque book to sign players. I think they’re in for a big shock.
10 February 2018 at 10:23 pm #166216You could look at it another way. He’s a gambler who’s made a ponful of money. Whether it be selling bog rolls or being good at poker it doesn’t matter where the money comes from as long as it comes. I feel a bit twitchy also, but I’ve felt far more twitchier watching Latics over 5 decades. Let’s not get our knickers in a twist until these guys get their feet under the table and give us their objectives and aims for our the club.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!10 February 2018 at 11:23 pm #166220Will he even attend games, or is Garry Cook going to be his ‘face’ in the directors box?I would think the answer to that will be a resounding “no”.
This will be a small part of his potential business empire across the World from the other side of the World.
But tbh that doesn’t bother me.11 February 2018 at 12:06 am #166228Look, weve all been spoiled silly with what we have witnessed whilst following our Latics. We should all treat it as a new era be that good or not quite as good. I say that because theres no such thing as a bad era when you support a club. The vast majority who can be arsed coming on here are Latics through and through and will allways be there.
It should be great whatever but Ive a sneaky feeling we’ll be hearing the words JCL again on a regular basis.11 February 2018 at 12:39 am #166231I doubt we will be a play thing. We are a club with PL facilities playing in League 1. 20m is a steal and effectively he has around 80m to spend to get us to the Prem and he won’t have lost a penny.
As a club we have no assets at all legally so what is he going to strip us of? If he sells the stadium then so what? We dont own it anyway (legally that is).
He won’t get a club with our facilities and potential for anywhere near 20m.
We could be the next City and Robin Park could become a hub of all things WAFC.
Of course it could go Pete Tong but Im not going to castrate the guy yet.
Oh, and if he puts a bloke in charge who knows the business and he just writes the cheques then so what?

But that’s just it. Everybody is thinking he’s going to start chucking his cash around. Really? Or will he just purchase us as a sleeping interest and just sit on the ownership? When you hear that the guy has no interest or knowledge of football, you do have to wonder just what his/their intentions actually are. Ok, let’s wait and see what develops then. Hope it works out, of course I do.
11 February 2018 at 1:44 am #166242Unless he is the worlds dumbest businessman he will want to make money not see a 20m investment go to shit
11 February 2018 at 1:48 am #166243Can’t believe how negative Vatty is; my God man, don’t come out of your back door cos you might get struck by a thunderbolt !
11 February 2018 at 2:07 am #166246Well, if I win Euro millions on Tuesday neet, that leaves me with 24 hrs to outbid Stanley Choi! In the greater scheme of things I would also buy Chorley F,C and move all chubby egg games to Victory Park. I would also put Donnys Page in charge of all the Warrior affairs; since his knowledge of RL is second to non. You may ask “who is non” ? Who cares, so long as the DW is an egg fried rice free zone !
11 February 2018 at 2:54 am #166249Good plan. Donny, dont play 442 mate. It doesnt work in rugby either.
11 February 2018 at 9:45 pm #166266Whelan wants to sell, his job is done and doesn’t invest huge amounts of money into the club as he has done when he first took ownership.
Does he sell to a billionaire or just anyone whose interested?
I’ve faith in Whelan his statues there and he will leave us safe hands but only time will tell.11 February 2018 at 10:14 pm #166268Can’t believe how negative Vatty is; my God man, don’t come out of your back door cos you might get struck by a thunderbolt !Sorry lostock. Im usually a positive guy, but i too have my reservations & share the same sentiments as vat.
This takeover IMO is totally different to whelan’s takeover of 1995. When that happened i had no doubts whatsoever & actually believed greatness was just around the corner. Whelan was also a footballer. He knew the game & he was a local businessman who also knew the town. Now it is totally irresspective where the new buyer is from. Totally irrellevant! But i get the impression that we are a plaything & when all goes hong kong, this town no longer has a football team. That concerns me greatly. I sincerely hope i’m wrong, i really do.
11 February 2018 at 11:03 pm #166270Why would we not have a club?
11 February 2018 at 11:31 pm #166272If you was in Whelans position what would you Do?
What would you like him to do with Wigan Athletic? -
