With three players less I can see why it might not work whilst chucking a peanut about.

Why would we not have a club?

My worry egg, is if the new owner becomes bored or we as a club fail to meet his ambitions. He pulls out & leaves us in a lot of financial poop that we cant afford to repay. Thus the closure of WAFC & hence, no football club.

You seem to know a lot more than me, Apart from your first line, and I googled how many played league egg, I haven’t got the foggiest what you are going on about.
What’s a low swinging sweet chariot got to do with a Welsh & English Army and Navy store on Twickers Lane. You’ve baffled me this time, I’d lay off the Malt on a Sunday if I were you.

Mr Ellis Short, owner of Sunderland Football Club, fits that category. You go from Jermain Defoe to James Vaughan leading the line, and from Jordan Pickford to Jason Steele in goal. Still, there’s always Jack Rodwell on £70k a week dictating play in midfield – except he refuses to play.

Ellis Short will go eventually but at what cost Mutty? It will take a huge pay out for him to go. Three more parachute payments to turn it round.
Huge club with huge drawing area and massive support. Seems a long climb back up to the greed league but surely the clubs future can not be at risk.

Isnt today some kind of deadline ? maybe an announcement timed around mondays game for maximum exposure ?

                  #166458

There was a first checkmark, but with an option to continue discussions. All the date was was a guarantee that Latics wouldn’t enter into discussions with anyone else. If no one else is in contention then it’s a very artificial deadline.
I certainly wouldn’t read anything at all into it, or expect any announcement until they’re ready.

Can’t believe how negative Vatty is; my God man, don’t come out of your back door cos you might get struck by a thunderbolt !

Sorry lostock. Im usually a positive guy, but i too have my reservations & share the same sentiments as vat.
This takeover IMO is totally different to whelan’s takeover of 1995. When that happened i had no doubts whatsoever & actually believed greatness was just around the corner. Whelan was also a footballer. He knew the game & he was a local businessman who also knew the town.

Now it is totally irresspective where the new buyer is from. Totally irrellevant! But i get the impression that we are a plaything & when all goes hong kong, this town no longer has a football team. That concerns me greatly. I sincerely hope i’m wrong, i really do.[/quote]

                    Exactly as you say.

The most worrying thing is if we do ever end up in that position, there isn’t going to be another local businessman saviour to step in and rescue us, the same as Whelan did in 1995. If it goes very wrong, Latics could easily cease to exist. I’d feel better of the actual owners had a genuine interest in football, but apparently not.

Can’t believe our ‘greatest ever Fans’ are selling us to them, being honest. I don’t swallow their spiel that they are looking for the best interests of the club. It’s all about the money.

I don’t think there can be any complaints about what the Whelan family have done for this club. This feels like a natural time to sell.

If Sharpe had total financial control of the Whelan family empire, sure, I could see him taking us forward. As it is, it appears any major financial outlay needs to go by Whelan. IMO, you cannot run a football club with any sort of long-term vision if each decision is second guessed by people no longer involved on a day-to-day basis.

For that reason it’s prudent to make the switch to new ownership in our own time, in a controlled manner. There’s no pressing need to sell so we can wait for the right buyer. Neither do I subscribe to the doomsday scenarios that if things don’t go to plan we would be left without a club. Without wishing to sound complacent, those things simply do not happen in this day and age. There are three basketcase ownership examples in the north west, Bolton, Blackburn and Blackpool. One is a division higher than us, the other hot on out heals in League 2, and the final one just beat us at home midweek. I wouldn’t want to be in any of their ownership positions, but even Blackpool, who are being asset stripped within an inch of their lives, are still kicking around.

Sharpe has done an interview with The Times today. In it he points out the club have been approached numerous times by domestic and overseas potential buyers.
