I would suggest that we now need to win games and we don’t do that playing with McClean up top on his own and then resorting to 2 lads up there for the last 10 when we’re losing.

I have been advocating Riera and Delort but I doubt he’ll go with that. He may go Fortune on his own against Leeds, I’d prefer Riera with him up top at the very least, someone has to be on who can score.
You don’t get out of this with that luxury midfield so that needs breaking up. Part of me wants to pot Callum to the bench but there’s always that chance he can create something.
I think Kvist could be someone to get back in, just so the likes of McCann get forward.
I’m even considering Captain Calamity could be the answer at the back for some much needed experience of a dogfight. New lows reached.

Are Waghorn and Ramis ever coming back? They could be what keeps us up or takes us down imo.

I still don’t think playing two up front is the answer – and certainly not if we’re playing four in midfield.

I can understand (in theory) why McClean is being started up front – because he will chase defenders down and pressurise them into mistakes or win the ball from them, and with his pace, if the ball is played through gaps in the middle or to his feet in space, he’ll out-sprint most defenders.

The problem on Saturday was, the midfield didn’t have enough of a grip on the game to create those chances, and half the balls played forwards were at McClean’s head.

Saying that though, I thought Fortune played well when he came on, and there was a marked improvement in the team.[/quote]

Fortune put the ball over the bar right in front of me from 8 yards after a superb lay off from Riera. It was however an improvement in that there were 2 players in the box.
I actually though Watson was our best player on Saturday even before he scored, always on the ball, absolutely nothing in front of him.

      I completely disagree.

Another manager would have us sailing up this league with this squad of players. It happens even to the worst teams, Brum were beaten by 8 one week under Clarke the week after they beat Watford, top of the league, under Rowett.

They’ve been completely negged out by the last couple of managers.

If we just sacked him now and got someone else we’d be mid table come May.

Right, I’ll humour you. For a bit. If neither Coyle, nor Rosler and now Mackay (with his extensive, lengthy tenure of all of 5 games) could get this bunch of players playing, why would someone else? 3 managers, 1 set of players. It’s the squad, not the managers that is the common denominator.

MacLean up front on his own does seem a strange choice, granted, but I can only assume Mackay doesn’t fancy any of the other strikers. In terms of that lone, hold-up role, I don’t see that Fortune has been doing too much wrong, personally.

Personally I thought McCann was by far our best player.

I don’t need humouring Griff, you can do that with your other adversaries.

        We’ve had 3 managers recently:

Coyle – Should never have been appointed as per my ABC thread. The fact is apart from being a full kit wanker, he was probably the best out of our last 3 managers in hindsight. HE had Europe to contend with and HAD to rotate the squad.

Rosler – Came in and gave us belief, we had new manager syndrome, booooom. Then he slowly but surely started to tinker, Arsenal semi being the turning point imo. By the end he didn’t know if he should play his goalkeeper at centre forward.

Malky – Came in and we got a decent result, something to build on, new manager syndrome? No, he cracked up and for the last 2 games, did what I thought was unthinkable, put out a worse formation than Rosler did towards the end. No matter what anyone says, his appointment has had an adverse effect at all levels of this club. He goes, we get a new start and we’ll get the response everyone is after and we can put this sorry episode behind us.

There is absolutely no guarantee of that, whatsoever.

You think we’re a laughing stock now? Just wait for the reaction if we sacked a manager after 5 games.

So if we’re a laughing stock now how much more fun would folk have if we got relegated?

A damn site more than if we got shut and started again with someone half decent and with no baggage.

You’d have been the last person I thought would have come out with something sounding like you give a fck what anyone else thinks. I know I don’t give a shiny shite.

Personally, I don’t think we are a laughing stock. Nobody cares enough about us. And I don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks.

I do think that the players that have been crap all season are more at fault than the manager. But we’re not going to agree on that so there’s little point keep going round in circles.

Just out of interest though, who would you replace him with?

            Pep or Jose.

Probably best if we went ethnic or at least foreign just to appease a few.

Does Boycey have his coaching badges?

No, he doesn’t. And Pep and Jose are likely to turn us down, which just leaves Horc.

OK if Horc’s available I’ll take him as long as he promises never to play a lone striker in McClean and doesn’t say Chingaling.

Oh, Horc’s said far worse than Chingaling. Just ask my lad! ;)

He couldn’t make the bench on Saturday, even in the desperate state we’re in. That speaks volumes with regard to what the manager thinks of his potential. I know the lad can do no more than score goals against Morecambe and Tranmere’s fourth teams, or whatever they are, but he’s not even an option for the first team, IMHO.

Fully agree. He was signed from the French second division and the development squad looks about right for him.

The only strikers on our books at the minute that I’d give the time of day to are Riera and Waghorn when he’s fit.
