How can the chairman sack a player under contract just because the manager says he doesn’t want him?
Current circumstances being that there are no reasons to sack a player, you know like we did with Marlon King and even then I think we terminated his contract.
Bit of a daft reply tbh Egg, not sure what the Debenhams thing is about
It’s pretty easy to sack someone or force them out the club especially if the player power thing is correct. DW doesn’t want relegation and has changed the Manager. His next step is to change the players. Have you ever heard of mutual consent?
If a Chairman is backing his Manager then he will get rid of whichever players the Manager doesn’t want by any means he can, and it seems that DW is backing MM so if he says he doesn’t want certain players then they’ll either be off on loan, thrown into the youth side or they’ll find a way to get rid.
The Debenhams thing was in response to your Next comment after you had posted two statements that were pretty much crap TBH.
Oh dear egg have you had too much nog?
I said Malky cant sack players. FACT. Your response backs that up, in that you say he can loan them, youth side etc. Tell me where I disagree with that. I said you can’t just sack them. Do you get it or as the egg cracked?
So to conclude Malky can’t sack players and neither can Whelan unless there’s a gross misconduct or other misdemeanour.
TBH this started off as how the feck can we start like that against Rotherham at home. He hasn’t had a win in 5 (new manager syndrome) and he’s brought a poison with him. Start again and we’d be better off. Couldn’t be worse off.
So to conclude Malky can’t sack players and neither can Whelan unless there’s a gross misconduct or other misdemeanour.
Yes they can. They can sack a player for whatever they see fit. If Malky believes a player is being a bad influence for example then he can speak with Whelan and they can agree to send him packing for the good of the club. It’s happened before at clubs and could quite easily happen here.
Bringing the club into disrepute or breaking club rules can be turned to whichever way the club sees fit and can be used for something as simple as a tweet in this day and age.
If a chairman backs his manager then he will do whatever it takes.
Personally, I don’t think we will sack anyone player or manager, but it can most certainly happen.
OK I’ll settle for one example where the player sacked didn’t then go to court with his agent to sue the club for unfair dismissal.
Remember I said they could only sack a player if there were circumstances such as gross misconduct, as to which there are no such cases at Wigan Athletic at present.
A massive pay off to go peacefully would constitute as by mutual agreement.
Therefore Malky or DW could not sack a player as things stand with the current squad.
…… They can sack a player for whatever they see fit…..
They can only be sacked if they’ve broken the terms of their contract. Given that players are invariably on fixed term contracts, they can be released by the club mid-term, but the club will then have to pay them compensation……….. hence why Holt’s been sent out on loan to avoid such a situation.
One could argue that they could (as anyone could) be sacked for not performing their job to an acceptable standard, but I’m fairly sure that it would be a first in football terms.

One of which I’m sure is that they follow club guidelines at all times. Said guidelines are set down by the club and can be changed by the club to fit the agenda of the club.
IF there are some players who are causing trouble within the camp then the club can and will get rid of them.
Yes they would probably do it by mutual consent which is exactly the same thing only the player gets a pay off. It’s the footballing version of being made redundant. Sacking a player without pay would take some balls but is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility.
Are we turning into an Leeds and sacking a manager every few weeks when all and sundry can see it’s the bloody players who are the problem
If it is the players who are the problem & it seems most likely it is, only one man can sort out the problem – paul jewell
Paul Jewell FFS…..!
Why does his name crop up every time the manager’s position is being debated? He’s had his time here and took us to the PL for which he should be quite rightly admired and respected. But he left us when the job got too much for him and he’s done bugger all since.
And if you are referring to that incident regarding player power when he first joined the club, if I remember correctly he turned to Whelan to sort that out.
