Prices now announced and I’m not happy
Adult tickets are sort of OK (we need to balance the books and last year was a bargain), but my 6-year-old grandson who loves “his seat” in the East Stand, where he has sat for the past 3 years loyally, is now expected to be charged £69.
If we were in the South Stand it would be free, or at most £29. But we don’t want to go in the South Stand. Why are the club trying to pen all families in there. There are loads of kiddies in the West and East Stands.
All prices should be comparable. OK if you make it a bit cheaper in teh South – I’ll even accept free with an adult in teh South, but £29 elsewhere. But £69 for a 6-year-old? People just aren’t going to take the kids, and that’s the future support of the club gone.
I really think they should think again, before they penalise people who just want to take along youngsters. If there is a party of adults, but one wants to regularly bring their child, then it is not reasonable to ask everyne in the group to move to the South Stand.
Totally agree with you there, George.
Only Latics could hike prices up after relegation. We will DEFINITELY be waiting to see who comes as manager, etc. Now. It’s going to cost us over £800 for 2 adults and 2 young kids. It’s actually a disgrace.
And no, definitely do not go in the south stand. We did that this season and it was abysmal. Terrible view (not that there was much to see) and no atmosphere or feeling of fan camerardrie.
But the fact it’s going to cost us over 800 to sit on the side, as opposed to around 500 from last season……
I am seriously thinking of not bothering.
Well done once again, Latics. You’ve made a big big mistake, once again.
FFS Dave, here you go again with the I’m not bothering again routine, no doubt you’ll be back on at some point saying it was just a wind up.
Look, the prices next season are actually not that bad, £11.69 for a seat at the half way line will do me.
I sympathies to an extent for the cost of a 6 year old, however at £3 a fortnight its cheaper than going to one of those run and jump places that my two grand kids love to drag me to every other week.
I’ve been saying it for years, there is no reason to charge kids anything to get in if potentially they drag an adult with them.
I personally think next season’s ticket sales will drop to the 5,000 mark irrespective of the prices. This board is living proof, that there are many fans out there who only want to support a winning team playing ole football in the top two tiers of the football league.
Well John, we’ve already said we will wait and see who is manager and what players leave, and if we aren’t happy, we will pick.and choose games. I feel a lot of people will take this stance next season.
If we appoint someone such as Paul Cook, we will happily renew and get behind them.All.im saying is I am surprised.at the clubs stance and the ticket prices. The Leeds game had a lot of empty seats, so.i was told. I didn’t go.
But surely as a fan, we support the club not the manager or players, they come and go us supporters will be here till we cock our legs up won’t we??
Who is to say Paul Cook will turn us around if he comes, he may do then again he may not.
I’ll say this, if 5 months ago, we had the choice of taking Warren Joyce as manager or Paul Cook it would have been the United youngster’s manager every time. Don’t be fooled into thinking this manager or that manager will be our saviour, there are too many variables to predict that. Who thought Rooky Caldwell would win us the league title in his first full season as a manager.
Well put it this way, there are a lot of names being linked with the job who I will NOT be willing to spend over £800 on season tickets to watch.
You are right, of course. There’s never any guarantee with any manager. I know that. But I don’t quite get the lauding of Caldwell. I think he got very lucky, and people forget we were shite up until Christmas. We won a very poor league one. This time will be harder, a lot of clubs have strengthened, they’ve established teams. It will be a damn sight harder.I’m just being honest. I think they needed to be cleverer with this season ticket. There should be a ‘family ticket’ available at a cheaper cost in ANY of the home stands. I’m not sure I will be forking out over £800 for season tickets, I think it’s a bit steep. The problem is, we sat in south stand last season and had the free kids tickets. But the view isn’t great and my dad’s eyesight is getting worse, so to look down the pitch, it’s not so good. So we want to go in the East. The problem is, that’s going to put the cost of a season ticket up from around £500, to over £800, and I just think it’s a bit too much of a steep increase.
I’m not sure who has put the ticket prices together but they’ve made a mistake. Believe me, John, I don’t want to stop going. But….
20 May 2017 at 12:11 pm #159123The hard core who would go to all games in all weathers will renew at that price – as JR has stated its £11.69 for the best seat in the house.
However, the hard core is probably around the 2-3,000 mark (ie the ones who love going so much they buy tickets for cup games).
The rest will see this as being asked to pay more money for a sub-standard product, and this is where the problem lies for the board – how do they retain as many as possible when the going gets tough. I’m surprised that they haven’t offered a two or three year ST plan, with a fixed price promise for 2018/19 and 19/20 if you buy one now.
As for the on-the-day prices, they are too high and will keep floaters away.
And before anyone says it, Sunderland have frozen their ST prices, which means 23 games for the same price as 19. Despite that, they are offering a sub-standard product next season (Burton & Bristol City instead of Chelsea & Man City) and ST sales will drop by around 30%.
20 May 2017 at 2:24 pm #159124I’m in that hard-core who has been gang since we had 3000 at Springfield, but even I am, reluctantly, going to have to think about things.
It’s a shame, because when you support a club…it’s what you do. You go the game. But I’m just not sure the increase is worthy of how we are at the moment and how we stand as a club. I also think it madness the prices are out and yet no manager in place and a bit unsure what players we will still have. Or will we all fork out and then sell Powell and Morsy on the eve of the season? And replace them with frees from Oxford and Chesterfield, and an 18 year old loan from Leeds?Club is very slow at everything…except trying to get money off us. New kit? Not a dicky bird. Friendlies? Not a whisper. Other clubs think ahead so much better.
20 May 2017 at 2:36 pm #159125Are you moaners for real we’re in lge 1 apart from Bradford if they don’t go up are you going to get an adult season ticket for roughly £12 a game and a kids season ticket in between £3 – £4-50 a game and going back to on the day prices you will not get apart from AFC Wimledon £17 less than £20 so come on people get real
20 May 2017 at 2:58 pm #159126Although I didn’t expect the prices to up quite as much, they are still very reasonable and it certainly won’t stop me renewing.
As for it being a sub standard product next season like some have indicated, I don’t agree. The last season in League One, after a bit of a dodgy start was certainly better in every way than last season.20 May 2017 at 3:01 pm #159127No beef here with the prices but what I don’t get is why you always have to pay more after a certain date? They should just name the prices and that’s it !

Being near bottom at Christmas in my opinion, makes winning the title that season an even better achievement for GC. The reason we was near the bottom, was down to the fact IMO, that there had been a record number of ins and outs and it took a while for him to pick his best team and get them to gel.
Yes I suggest GC needs lauding up for winning the title in his first full season as a manager, your counter claim lost credibility when you suggested he’d been lucky, in what way had he been lucky to win the title?.From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!20 May 2017 at 4:24 pm #159130Although I didn’t expect the prices to up quite as much, they are still very reasonable and it certainly won’t stop me renewing.
As for it being a sub standard product next season like some have indicated, I don’t agree. The last season in League One, after a bit of a dodgy start was certainly better in every way than last season.Definitely not sub-standard entertainment wise. The year we won that league under Paul Jewell was one of the most entertaining seasons in our history. Even last season but one under Caldwell there were a few good games to watch.
Who knows next season we may start to win and score goals again. Season ticket prices are cheap as chips but who will pay over twenty quid on the day? Not many. The ones who don’t renew season tickets will look to pick matches but who would they pick to play at over twenty pound?20 May 2017 at 4:29 pm #159131Prices now announced and I’m not happy

I do agree. We will wait until we see who the new manager is. Hopefully with his own training staff. The signs do not look hopeful. Barrow is talking as if he will still be in charge, God Forbid. Sharp is reported as looking to bring in players. Goodness what if the new manager does not want them? Useless after relegation carrying on regardless as if you (in this case Sharp & Barrow) know best.
Let the new man get on with the job. Bring him in this week and, hopefully, I will buy the three season tickets.

The suspense is killing me.
At this moment in time, I honestly don’t know. I think anybody with kids who doesn’t want to sit in south stand is being penalised.
To anybody calling me a moaner, I will say that if your some sad bastard with nowt in your life other than football, paying £300 for a ST isn’t bad at all. However, if you have a couple of kids you are having to buy for as well, and in total 2 adults and 2 kids and it’s coming to £800 it’s a different story.
I have no desire to sit in the south stand again, it’s dire and I’d rather not bother. It’s a shame, as it will be my 32nd year of watching Latics. If we do get one, it’ll be week before season and not being rushed into it. I would like to know our manager and squad before forking out that kind of money.
They should have just frozen the prices and avoided this. Never heard of a club putting prices up after relegation. We will have bad bad crowds next season, I am sure of that.
20 May 2017 at 5:00 pm #159135Might put an end to those pesky kids who run around the concourse at half time when I am trying to enjoy my pint which is bad enough to start with!
20 May 2017 at 5:31 pm #159137Vat your moaning about paying £269 but if you wait until the week before the season starts you will pay £299 can’t believe how sum people think £269 – £12 a game £299-just short of £13 a game still not bad but you will still have a moan at that and reason it’s had to go up we now have no parachute payment to keep it down I bet you didn’t moan last season saying it was too cheap
20 May 2017 at 5:49 pm #159139Just wait untill the manager is announced. Can not see any reason at all why there is such a delay. Surely even the board at Wigan must realise the work needs to have already been started in building up a momentum. We need to be hearing rumours of who will be in the side next year. Surely even our board must know this is all part of the marketing of a club. Unless they know already who it is and know their decision will create the opposite effect of good positive marketing. Either that or they are just not that bothered. Just wondering who the £28-00 matches will be against.
