I’ve said it all along, Cook will always side with age and experience and will not try youth. His age policy on players he signs “then plays” says it all. It’s as though he’s sh!tty pants scared of taking a chance on a kid. If your good enough age means jack sh1t
If were safe in the League I can see Cook bringing him on in the 89th against Millwall

Cook’s alredy said that he won’t blood any of the promising youngsters this season until we’re mathematically safe so you;re spot on with your assessment

He says there’s a huge risk in bringing on young lads. Why do the club keep sending out all these positive messages about the academy with the annual report stating how us developing our own players is the way forward when since Flores was sent off at Oldham not one lad has been given a chance.

      Exactly,
We all know their only young lads but, there’s one or two of them we keep hearing the same noises about and they could possibly be ready to move up to the first team and wean them in.

Now I’m not saying throw them in at the deep end but surely some of these young players would learn far far more by training and listening to senior experienced players in the 1st team who are in the twilight of their careers rather than playing against a bunch of others kids.

It didn’t do Baines or McManaman any harm and by all accounts some of these young un’s could be better

For the record I thought last night was one of the most boring games that I have witnessed in recent months! I missed the QPR game if anyone thinks that was bad! All I can say is that it’s a good job there are a handful of sides who are shitter than us because we are fucking poor playing to Cooks negative tactics!

Leighton Baines was playing in a side that was winning every week and he had an easy job.

Let’s just say for example that Gelhardt is put on the bench next week. A goal down we throw him on. Now it could be the making of him and he bags a brace and never looks back. Or he could miss a chance, get bullied by a lump of a defender and have a stinker. I can guarantee you that if he was to miss a chance to get a point or a winner that the fans would turn on him in seconds. Similarly, if we played the kids and lost they would berate Cook for playing the kids. It’s a Wigan thing. Happens at the rugby as well.

Cook is trying to protect these players by not throwing them into the fire. If/when we are safe he will blood them or he will blood them in nothing cup games be that the league cup or the JPT if we do go down. If Gelhardt is seen as being ready then he will probably go out on loan to get that experience of being around the first teams etc and playing every week like Callum Lang currently is.

BTW, for anyone at the fans forum or who bothered to listen to it as opposed to just ranting about this that and the other, Cook said that the young lads train with and play against the first team each and every week so they will be around these experienced lads they can learn from. Similarly Cook will see whether they have the ability to step up. Gelhardt (sorry to keep picking on him) could for example get bullied by Chey Dunkley each and every game/session which indicates he isn’t ready for the level we are at.

Well done Vatty, it takes a lot to come on and admit you were a little irrational but you had something to be mad about. He was many peoples fans favourites.
I would rather remember him now as a great striker and servant to the club rather than ‘somone not good enough’ or a ‘wantaway’as some were interpreting the way they saw him because he was leaving.
When 30,000 people are singing the song at The Stadium of Light theyll be singing our song.
To the new owners theyve re-couped around one sixth of what they payed for the whole club and infastructure so not a bad evening for the owners either. Browny points to the invisible man from them.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think it was ‘our song’. Am I right in saying that Newcastle were singing it about Mitrovic first? ;) ;)

I seem to remember everyone on here having an absolute meltdown when we played all the youngsters against Accrington.

And seeing as they were hammered 4-0 by a League Two side what chance do they have at Championship level?

                Jones – >30 – Cook signing

                Byrne – <30
                Kipre - <30 - Cook signing
                Dunkley - <30 - Cook signing
                Naismith - <30 - Cook signing

                James <30 - Cook signing
                Morsy - <30

                Pilkington - 30 - Cook signing
                Windass - <30 - Cook signing
                Jacobs - <30

                Clarke - >30 – Cook signing

                Subs:

                Garner – 30 – Cook signing
                Powell – <30
                Massey - <30 - Cook signing

So that's 10 Cook signings from 14, 6 of them who are under 30 with 2 aged 30. From the 14 players that played 10 were under 30 and 2 were aged 30.

Yep, he has no interest in youth at all.

Totally irrelevant what Stoke players cost….can only base opinion on what I saw last night, and they were poor. Still as poor as they were we were shit and Stoke should have won it..As for Clarke……he created nothing and centre halfs had him in their pockets all night.

Have you ever thought of going and watching a different team? Or even a different sport?

You see nothing at all enjoyable in watching Latics, but you continue to tell us all about it. If it makes you so miserable then go somewhere else.
