That picture is from the kick off at the 82-83 end of season game. The fighting distracted the linesman so much he missed a blatent offside leading to their goal. We lost 1-0 and it was a miserable day

When has our club let investment and crowds get in the way of success ???

Throughout our entire history (Whelan years apart who threw millions at it) ya fool! If you take those years away last year would be our most successful years in our history. Funnily enough now the moneys stopped being put in we are languishing towards the bottom of the Championship. Preston get bigger crowds. And again apart from the Whelan years have finished above us. Don’t see that long ago we used to give em the home end at Springfield Park.

Never ever given the home end at Springy to any club. Where did you dream that?[/quote]

        JCL’s everywhere eh VAT?

It sounds like he is trying to make out that donnyspage is a JCL. Thats as far fetched as his notion of us ever giving up the home end to the away fans.

Away fans may have infiltrated the home end from time to time, but they have never been given the home end apart from when Bradford City visited and we offered them the choice to join us in a non segregation day. All fans that day mixed peacefully and in harmony with each other.

I think a few folks are remembering the Nob End game when the Nobbers came over the wall from the Shevvy End had a scuffle but the useless Wigan old bill left them on the Pop side and protected them.
Anybody remember the NPL select eleven v Man City game at Springy. Now that was a rather eventful evening with pitched battles on the Pop side and round into the Shevvy end.

Now that neet was friknin, we was stood in the paddock to the left of the Phoenix and bricks were raining down on us from outside the ground. Utter chaos ensued. Never been so scared at a game before or since.

If you are the two lads from near Chorley I think you are I’m only joking with my JCL comment. One of you had a beard in the 90s and you once made up a rendition of the Kinks Lola to Dave Adekola one night at Rochdale. Am I right in my thinking?

Bloody hell Roy, you have a good memory, that is years ago.
David Adekola was horendous, and I seem to recollect his only contribution that night was skying a shot over the bar at the end we were stood in that nearly cleared the ground.
Incidently, donnyspage has always had a beard, I only have stubble at best.

BTW, Do we know you? Give us a few clues.

Cheers Ad, we were afterall part of ‘The famous Two Man Kop’ at Sprinfield Park before loads on here were even born.

PS. ‘The Famous Two Man Kop’ had three members, the 3rd is/was LHL.

                      I’m a knock kneed chicken.

Remember that horc I’m positive you will and also when I knew Ali from yonks ago Ralph was also part of the set. Remember the suit jacket lol. His mantra towards the ref was always the same. “YOU BLACK ENAMEL PIG” was his outburst even if the ref had a blinder,

Aye, even Kevin Langley remembered us when we spoke with him about 2 years ago ! I think he secretly liked us polishing his ego before the start of every match :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Christ, thats a blast, David Adekola. Came from Bury, a supposed Nigerian international. Didnt it come out years later that he was a fraud? Another Ali Dia, really.
I was thinking the other day, about those times. Players would come and go quite frequently. I bet most people won’t remember such likes as Johnny Magee, an Irish striker. He came on in a game and I am sure he scored. And Richard Brolly, who had been playing in the American indoor league. Players would come in , play a game or two and then disappear into the wilderness. Little Danny Vaughan came from Crewe and looked great in a couple of pre season friendlies, and then disappeared.
Or they would come in, look terrible and hang around the place. I was looking up the teams and stats from that cup tie versus Canvey Island the other day. We’d had a player called Chris Duffy on our books in the Swain era. Bit of an headless chicken. He only turned up as part of the Canvey Island team that caused a shock by beating us one nil. The surprising thing though was our team that day was a fairly decent one, including De Zeeuw and Liddell.

That Canvey Island defeat still keeps me awake at night TBH but was the catalyst for Uncle Dave giving Jagger the backing he wanted and we were Premier League 4 years later and won the thing just over a decade later.

I always say in sport for every win over a City you need a loss to a Canvey Island or an Altrincham in the 90s because you appreciate the City wins that little bit more.

Christ, Altrincham. Our ex player Chris Sharratt scored….and their keeper was having a slanging match with Latics fans behind his goal. We took a decent following…and got done. Ive still go the ticket stub from this.
