I reckon we are going into the end of season run in stronger than before the January window.
We may have lost our two best centre forwards, but the fact is, neither were banging them in for fun.
Will has been injured a lot and wasn’t getting the game time most thought he should, and Vaughan huffed and puffed, worked hard, but wasn’t quite good enough to make an impact at this level.
Clarke didn’t set the world alight last time he was here, but he is a proven goal scorer in this league and there is no reason at all to doubt he will get the goals to help us stay up.
All the other players we have signed will strengthen the other areas of the pitch.
I personally would rather Windass and Garner had gone instead of Grigg and Vaughan, but it would have cost us too much to pay clubs to take them two off our hands??!!!?!2 February 2019 at 5:53 pm #175957Technically I think we are now stronger, but only because Grigg was not playing. I would probably swap Clarke for Vaughan, Connolly was a waste of space and Everton fans I have spoken to say the new lad is mustard, and we have signed two defenders. Time to look forward now lads, sad to see Grigg go but it’s done now no point in harking backwards, I used to have a lot more hair and was 20kg lighter, that’s not going to change either.
2 February 2019 at 10:03 pm #175971Let’s put this debate to bed and move on. Will Grigg championship stats, are you reading Cup Winners is played 43 scored 8. I would hazard a guess that 4 of those were penalties.
Was he given a chance, I would say yes, did he look a good championship player I hate to say it but would say no. Clarke scored 19 last season for the blades so let see how he does. An assist and goal doesn’t confirm he’ll do it for us but he looks a handful and I love those poacher’s goals gerrin in before the defender. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!2 February 2019 at 10:11 pm #175974Clarke has already equalled his goals tally from last time. :)
2 February 2019 at 10:18 pm #175977This is the championship and Clarke is a bigger threat than Grigg.
Clarkey would of had 2 today If Naismith cross 2nd half was anywhere near him.2 February 2019 at 10:50 pm #175984Will who?

Clarke has gladly adimitted himself that it was far easier to hit the net in a side like Sheffield Utd.I take it you’ve not looked at his stats from when he’s played for some of the “17” clubs he’s played for in his 20 moves….yes 20 not 2 ?.
He’s scored 1 goal or less is 11 of them and a fair few of them at a lower level than the Championship.
I hope he hits double figures for us I truly do but your stats are from 1 club who lie 3rd in the Championship when in struggling sides he’s struggled. I’m not sure if you’ve realised we have struggled lately so in turn Grigg does. Kinda hand in hand fella.1 swallow doesn’t make a summer.
I see Fox injured and Pilkington was struggling ….I suppose that’s nothing to do with age ?….na is it fook lol3 February 2019 at 10:16 pm #176030Let’s put this debate to bed and move on. Your argument was well and truly rag dolled by his stats, the facts. End of!

What a journey!5 February 2019 at 12:35 pm #176051And you trying to hit us with stats from 1 club about Clarke to paint a picture that we’ve signed a worldy from one club is pissible funny totally ignoring the other 21 moves and goals he scored.
Normally I’d say your wearing blinkers but I’m leaning to think you own a Labrador on a harness and a ball on stick.5 February 2019 at 4:28 pm #176056Here you go…..
Decide for yourselves
Clarke Stats:
2003-2007 Wolves/Kidderminster/QPR/Plymouth…….goal every 6.5 games
2007-2010 Sheff Wed/Oldham/Southend……………….goal every 3.5 games
2010-2011 QPR/Preston……………………………….goal every 19 games
2011-2012 Swindon/Chesterfield………………………..goal every 1.7 games
2012-2013 Charlton/Crawley/Scunthorpe/Coventry….goal every 2.25 games
2014-2015 Wolves/Wigan………………………………..goal every 7.5 games
2015-2016 Bury…………………………………………..goal every 2.1 games
2016-2019 Sheff U/Wigan………………………………..goal every 2.9 games257 Championship games, 59 goals = goal every 4.3 games
Grigg Stats:
2008-2013 Walsall…………………………………………goal every 3.9 games
2013-2014 Brentford……………………………………..goal every 9 games
2014-2015 MK Dons………………………………………goal every 2.27 games
2015-2019 Wigan………………………………………….goal every 2.21 games46 Championship games, 10 goals = goal every 4.6 games
Other than a blip of a season (2 for Clarke) not a bad record for either of them.

Should Griggs games played have read 46.
Both good strikers, but with different styles. Lone striker role doesn’t suit Grigg and I’m sure if he got better service he’d score more, great finisher.6 February 2019 at 11:40 am #176071Should Griggs games played have read 46.

He also scored 20+ goals playing in that role for MK Dons playing as a lone striker. He scored 20+ goals playing in that role for us in his 1st season at Latics. He scored 20ish goals for us last season playing in that position.I’d say the fact that he’s not had such a prolific rate in the Championship is more to do with where his ability level is than the position he’s been played in. There’s a reason why Brentford got rid of him when they got to that level, why he wasn’t prolific (even before injuries) for Latics in our last visit to this division, why Cook preferred others to him this season and why O’Neill doesn’t often start (or even pick him) at international level
6 February 2019 at 11:54 am #176072How’s about weve been dog shit….and Aguero would get 5 goals a season with the non league standard of service we’ve supplied this season. Seriously preferring Clarke to Grigg …..really ???….Nearly as big a load of bollocks as the quote “Powell is the best player in this league”…..of course he is .Bet he’s aged a bit since we last saw him..Would love him to get a decent run in the team but with his fitness. nah.!…get him off the wage bill..That’ll upset the Powell groupies.
