He has left Holt at home in charge of the pie locker.

Regardless of lack of funds or quality players, being relegated is still considered to be failure where managers are concerned and that is why so many get potted shortly after taking their teams down despite being in a similar state clubwise as we were !

That’s where Roberto is different – he’s gone on to greater things!

Poppycock? He’s already done something that Moyes never could – taken Everton to a victory at one of the Big Four. It’s actually the first time that Everton have won at Old Trafford since 1992!

If you enjoy watching good football, why not sit back and enjoy it? Or are you preparing for the part of Scrooge?

Rosler hasn’t very much choice. We’ve tried most combinations with and without Holt and Fortune.

If you eliminate Holt and Fortune, the only remaining forward is Keane. You could play him with Powell and a winger. We tried Keane, Powell and both McClean and McManaman at Derby without success.

Anyway, Rosler has left Holt behind to prepare for the game against Bolton.

    Also in the paper – the Coventry Telegraph – today;

Former Sky Blues youth chief Gregor Rioch gets Wigan job
8-year-old left Coventry City a fortnight ago after six-and-a-half highly successful years

So that’s why they’re called youth chiefs.

So he went to Utd and won. Big fkin deal. If the Barcodes can go to OT and win, anyone can. Whipping boys of the Prem Utd at the mo ;)

And he then goes to the Emirates and draws – wow wee. Not like we never won there is it?

It’s not just what Everton did, it’s the way that they did it. In ten years under Moyes, Everton never won once at Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. Martinez has done it the first attempt!

United hadn’t lost since the end of September. Played 12, won 7, drawn 5 in all competitions. Goals for 25, goals against 10. I don’t think that many people predicted that Everton would match them and go on to win.

Arsenal too were in good form, sitting four points clear at the top of the Premier League. Nobody expected Everton to have more possession than them and come away with a draw.

Roberto has got them playing beautiful football too. You can deny it you must, but you know that it’s true. Why not sit back and enjoy it?

Who can play in the front three?

How long before Top Four Bob takes Everton there?

Keep calm, JR – it wasn’t intended to be personal.

Let US go back to our principles and agree once again that the season doesn’t end in December.

And admit that it was ridiculous to christen Martinez as Bottom Four Bob as early as September.

And it is still the season of goodwill. Can’t we agree to cease hostilities?

My fellow lightsiders, lets go back to our principles and agree once again that the season doesn’t end in December.

And admit that it was ridiculous to christen Martinez as Bottom Four Bob as early as September.

A remarkable conversion and a nice gesture in the season of goodwill.

So players are deliberately getting themselves sent off because Ince has cancelled Christmas leave?

It’s a ridiculous suggestion – I don’t know why people repeat this nonsense!

Full marks LHL, not so ridiculous afterall. No smoke without fire.
    You stupid boy, Barnsley.[/quote]

I hope that we will shortly be declaring a Christmas truce.

Perhaps we can extend it into the New Year?

This is a legal matter – no rash comments please!

    All turned out well.

The press report proved wrong – now there’s a surprise.

Rosler watched Wigan at Millwall on Saturday and started his new job on Sunday.

I trust that his passport is up to date.

There are reports that Sam Sodje did get himself sent off deliberately. But he claims he did it for seventy grand, not out of spite.

Sam Sodje, Akpo Sodje, DJ Campbell, Montano of Oldham and Goodison of Tranmere all reported to be helping the police with their enquiries.

    Thank you, Griff.

I think the phrase is – There’s none so blind as a referee.

Last season was atrocious in my opinion, but the FA Cup kept me going with the false hope that the Cup style would be adopted in the League.

Wigan had the lowest budget in the Premier League. As other teams increased their budgets, Wigan’s was reduced by 25%. Rival clubs had bigger budgets, larger squads and better players, so Roberto had an uphill task. However, he turned down first Villa and then Liverpool to persevere with Wigan and to set up the Academy.

Roberto introduced three at the back in an attempt to squeeze as much as he could from his limited resources. He had the centrebacks and the wingbacks to make it work – if only they remained fit. It did work two seasons ago, and only narrowly failed last season.

I thought it was a brave and fascinating exercise. Yes, the results of the games last season were disappointing. But I don’t think the team would have done any better by reverting to a conventional formation and more direct tactics. I think they would have done worse; other teams were quite simply stronger.

Roberto clearly did not have the resources to do well in two competitions. I wanted him to concentrate on the league. But once we had beaten Everton he was right to play to win the cup. At Arsenal, the odds were stacked heavily against Wigan and that game was a great anticlimax. The players and the fans deserved a better opportunity to celebrate winning the cup.

But I think Roberto did us proud. He has stuck to his principles at Everton and shown that his style can be attractive and successful. Only last game, my neighbour in the Springfield Stand said to me, quite unprompted, “If Roberto came here with Everton, I don’t think that there’s a single fan who wouldn’t welcome him back.” I’m really sorry if that isn’t the case.
