Lawrenson has in fact been quite kind to Wigan. If his weekly predictions had been correct, Wigan would have finished in 13th place.

Lawro said Wigan would start playing when the clocks went forward. It’s a pity he wasn’t right about that.

Tyldesley thinks the problem was injuries and a long series of individual errors.

Horc blames Martinez; The tactics of the manager are to blame for our relegation as I think our team man for man are as good as any in the PL from Liverpool down. It was trying to play as they were told to play where the problem lay.

Two different views but they can’t both be right.

Said it numerous times not many defence injuries in september and still we were terrible

    Just Alcaraz out.

Back three were Ramis Caldwell Figueroa.

There was nothing at stake after all.

It was a pleasant afternoon. It would have been quite different with both teams fighting for their lives.

Come and see Wigan play Blackpool, Blackburn, Burnley or Bolton next season.

You can’t blame the FA cup on the way we played against an out of form Swansea side + without Michu and a 10 man QPR.

I would have sooner took a chance on a fit Golobart against Swansea over a hip injured and couldn’t run Caldwell, crazy.

Without the cup, Wigan would have been playing Swansea instead of Millwall. They were in excellent form that day – and were able to field a back three plus two wing backs.

They had a much weakened squad when the time came to play Swansea. I thought Caldwell played against Swansea only because he was fitter than Golobart.

RELEGATION is a disaster for the town, like it or not the premier league filled the pubs and hotels with away punters and gave the town plenty of free promotion,no surprise to find the Martinez Luvvies in denial,if martinez said shit was white they would believe it

Blackpool, Blackburn, Burnley and Bolton have all survived relegation. And Wigan are better placed than most – if not all – of those.

The Cup Final put Wigan in the full glare of the media. Perhaps we’ll get some tourists coming just to see the Cup.

Then there is the attraction of Wigan Pier for fans of our European opponents. Hasn’t anyone brewed a Cup Winners beer?

There were two foul-mouthed Wigan louts sitting directly behind me at Wembley.

Despite the many families present, they swore loudly all the way through the afternoon – including during Abide with Me.

They showed no respect for those who wanted to remember it is a great occasion.

What do you mean “was..that a Cup win was worth the cost of relegation”?

I for one am quite happy where we are. Cup winners – which will never be taken from us. And now able to enjoy real football again.

I mean that in the run-in to the end of the season, the general opinion was that a Cup win was worth the cost of relegation. You’re happy with the outcome – that’s fine.

The Cup Final was a great day out, wasn’t it? We may never repeat it. I’m coming round to your view!

Wigan, inevitably, found it hard to compete in the Premier League. They simply couldn’t compete in the FA Cup too. The sentiment on this site was overwhelmingly that a Cup win was worth the cost of relegation.

So most people have got what they asked for. It’s too late to complain about relegation. Many were seduced by the prospect of seeing Wigan play in Europe too. And how persuasive will that now be to new players?

If retaining Premier League status was his priority, then Martinez’ big mistake was in not losing to Bournemouth. You might call it Boselli’s revenge.

To be fair to him, Martinez did put out a weakened team in every subsequent round with the exception of the Final. And no-one could have predicted the stunning win at Everton.

As a byproduct, the FA Cup run did give McManaman and Gomez the chance to establish themselves in the first team.

Wigan were never going to find life easy in the Premier League.

And the serious injuries to defenders this season made their task almost impossible.

One thing I do know – we’ll never have a season like this again.

    Thanks, Roberto.

I hope you get fixed up.

Restrictions are imposed for tickets for matches against Man United, Man City, Liverpool and Everton.

Otherwise, restrictions are imposed when the away end sells out. This might happen for matches against Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle, especially for a 3pm kick off on a Saturday.

This season, Bradford City fans bought all their tickets for the League Cup tie. They went home happy.

Perhaps they could offer cheap tickets for the European games plus free quiche lorraine and a glass of wine.

in reply to: which players will leave? #113815

There is very little point to the European matches.

What can you remember about Bolton and Stoke playing in the UEFA Cup – and even Everton and Manchester City in the Champions League?

Do Wigan really want to qualify for the next round? They are likely to field weakened teams, just as they have in domestic cup ties.

Thanks for your interest. You may like to see Martinez in action.

Is it too late to register your name with the ticket office?

Restrictions only occur when the away section has sold out. I don’t know if it has for tomorrow.

Try it – you might be able to pick up your ticket tomorrow.

Lancashire derbies against Blackburn, Blackpool, Bolton and Burnley.

Trips to Yorkshire to play Barnsley, Doncaster, Huddersfield, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday – there isn’t a single Premier League team in Yorkshire!

That should cut the mileage down.
