Good management is making the best of your resources.

Wigan are in a relatively good financial position in the Championship. But they could quickly fritter their finances away on bad buys and high wages.

How long before “Bottom Four Bob” has Everton at the wrong end of the table?

This thread is about your ongoing obsession with Roberto. You say you don’t care, but you still took enormous pleasure in predicting Roberto’s imminent fall into the bottom four.

It didn’t happen. Instead, he has risen up the table and is now “Top Four Bob”. You know what happened but you still won’t admit that you got it wrong!

It isn’t difficult – all you have to say is Sorry, Bob, I got it wrong.

he is only one of two, out of our long list of Managers, who guided us to our second only relegation in our league history. And with regards to, “we wouldn’t be in the Europa League”: there was a small contribution by the players who took part in our cup conquest; it wasn’t a one man show !

So you won’t give Roberto credit for winning the FA Cup, but, when he was forced to cut costs by the Chairman, you feel he should take the blame for relegation.

You must be one of those unfortunate people who are unable to admit that they are ever wrong.

Do you really think that Coyle will introduce three at the back with wingbacks?

Do you even think that Coyle has the skill to introduce three at the back with wingbacks? It’s a very sophisticated tactic. Nobody has ever accused Coyle of being very sophisticated.

Jean Beausejour played for Birmingham City in their home and away wins against Maribor in the Europa League in 2011/12.

Birmingham beat Arsenal in the 2011 League Cup final, but were relegated at the end of the season. Birmingham therefore played in the Europa League as a Championship team. Beausejour didn’t start in the final, but came on as a substitute.

    Coyle has announced his squad;

Latics boss Owen Coyle expects to make a couple of changes to the side beaten by Watford at the weekend but not as many as the seven players he brought in for their first European game against Zulte Waregem a fortnight ago.

Shaun Maloney (back) and strikers Grant Holt (knee) and Marc-Antoine Fortune (hamstring) remain sidelined while full-back Stephen Crainey has a neck problem.

Wigan team (from): Carson, Nicholls, Shotton, Rogne, Boyce, Garcia, Perch, Barnett, Buxton, McCann, Watson, Gomez, McManaman, McArthur, Espinoza, Powell, Beausejour, McClean, Dicko.

I expect Coyle to save his best players to play Blackburn on Sunday. So I think there will be another makeshift team.

The result doesn’t really matter – just enjoy the occasion.

This started out as a thread to ridicule Martinez. It didn’t work out like that. It’s the people who called him Bottom Four Bob who now look ridiculous.

And the more fuss you make, the more ridiculous you look. Why don’t you just hold your hands up and say Sorry, Bob – we got it wrong.

We all hoped that Bobby would prove to be to be the greatest Latics Legend

And isn’t he? Fans are saying that playing in the Europa League is the greatest achievement of Wigan Athletic. We wouldn’t be playing Maribor tomorrow if it wasn’t for Roberto.

Don’t fall in love with a football manager. He will only break your heart.

    in reply to: MARIBOR #121760

Another man with strong Maribor links is their new manager Ante Simundza who had three playing spells with the club (1991-96, 1997 and 1999-00) and made over 200 appearances, scoring 87 goals.

Simundza became Head Coach on Monday, but has experience of coaching at the club when he was assistant from 2008 to 2011.

But Phil – you know that you really do care!

    You’ve been all over the Bottom Four Bob thread;

My mate is an Everton fan and he said some fans booed them off ! He said that there was a lot of possession in their own half with not a lot to show for it ! It was like deja vu when he told me that !

Well I am positive that Everton will not be in the top 8 this season ! If they lose Baines and Fellaini they wont even finish in the top half !

In a way I am saying that RM is not the next big thing in the World of football management and that I fear he may be a little out of his depth at Everton with the expectation of their fans !

To paraphrase the IT Crowd, an Everton fan told me that they tried to walk it in the last game he saw !

I cant wait for Özil to make a complete fool of Barry again, now that was funny !

DickDastrdly wrote: Probably a better chance of us being in the bottom 4 before Bob Tick Tock

You have to realise that Dick Dastardly is the proverbial loser !

Sammy wrote: Impossible! Martinez doesn’t have a plan ‘B’.

You need good players to have a contingency plan and we didn’t meet that criteria and from what I saw yesterday we still don’t ! Yesterday was utter garbage !

You’ve been paying close interest to Roberto’s progress! And now you’ve come round to DickDastrdly’s way of thinking.

Back at the ranch, we face Maribor and Blackburn. I’d save the first team for Sunday.

You’ve been showing great interest in his progress all the same!

But you’re right to be concerned about our progress. Coyle has to put together a working unit from the players at his disposal. Three at the back is a possibility. But it’s a very sophisticated formation, and I doubt that Coyle has the ability to implement it effectively.

Wingback is a very demanding position. Boyce could probably do it for a further year in the Championship. Beausejour is almost a perfect wingback, but McClean hasn’t the skills or the discipline required.

I’d like to see all the Lancashire teams at the top of the table competing for promotion. Well done, Blackpool – we play you soon! I don’t get any satisfaction from seeing Bolton at the bottom of the table.

Who started this thread? Not the Bobby lovers!

Everton have a reasonable squad, no European fixtures and no more League Cup ties.

However, their last three home games are Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City.

They could be a candidate for a good FA Cup run. Has any manager won the cup two years running but with different clubs?

The hardest word to say is sorry. Some people can’t manage it at all.

A psychologist writes; By refusing to apologize, non-apologists are trying to manage their emotions. They are often comfortable with anger, irritability, and emotional distance and find emotional closeness and vulnerability to be extremely threatening.

Apparently Bob was good after all.

At having his teams needing to score more than 2 goals to win a game.[/quote]

    And remaining undefeated.

3-0 up at halftime, Everton couldn’t be bothered to run around in the second half – and still ran out winners. Next game – away to Manchester City.
