Proper confused now, because I’ve spent forty years thinking Geoff Davies got at least two in that match?! :?

No recollection of any sendings off either but then again, I was only six :) Definitely that game though, result, opponents and night match confirm that. Thanks again ;)

Just looking at the NPL final tables during the mid seventies suggests we dipped the couple of seasons before election to the league and finished second the year we got elected.

Other names that evoke great memories:

        South Liverpool
        Goole Town
        Buxton

Big games were always against the likes of Stafford Rangers, Boston United, Altrincham and Scarborough.

One of the reasons I’m trying to get info is to nail my first game. I thought it was Autumn 1971 against Runcorn, a 3-1 win, but it must have been Autumn 1970 as I went to Maine Road in 1971. I’ll find it sooner or later.

Friday 28th August 1970 Wigan Ath v Runcorn. Latics won 3-1 and it was a 7.30 ko.Hope that helps you ![/quote]

Beltin’ that mate, thank you ;)

I remember it being a night match but would have guessed at Wednesday rather than Friday.

Thanks to Garswood too, for the links ;)

After Sunday’s bonus, I reckon we’ve got enough already.

Just one more win would be good to make absolutely sure though.

Wasn’t it the Montrose that Arsene and the boys nipped into for a pint when their coach got lost trying to find us in our first season in the Prem?

I couldn’t sleep last night. Just boiling with anger as to how bad we were, and more importantly, how by making a few obvious changes, it could have been so different.

You need to get out more. The day I let a football team have this sort of effect on me will be the day I wrap it up.

A few of u are quiet gormless to be honest. We didn’t play bad at all except for Scharner awful game. Anyway the only thing lacking in that game was creativity and the will to take a chance and gamble. I don’t agree with the booing. Not suprised they didn’t win being booed and screamed at for a mis judgment. But for all those who will defend urslef saying i didn’t boo and were whale, i dnt care. we aint world class.

I say support you team who alot of you claim to love so dearly instead of complaining. If you dnt like it support another team.

                    *Gasps*

Which game did you watch? We were dreadful.

I think the cheering was a bit out of order when Scharner’s number came up on the board.

He is a drama queen and a primadonna and, like you say, a legend in his own mind but he was just one part of a very poor side tonight.

They want the likes of myself, with the Bublé, Van Morrison

McCarthy – Not bad but painfully slow.

Diame – One of only two flair players we have.

Caldwell – Good signing. Prone to odd rash challenge and howler but steady and has a canny knack of nicking a goal when he goes forward.

Moses – Agree, not seen enough.

Moreno – Not Premiership standard. Always looks busy but with very little effect. Big lad like him should really be throwing his weight around but wins very little in the air and easily pushed over.

                          Gohouri – Not seen enough.

Scotland – Could have been a cult hero but ultimately not good enough. 10/10 for endeavour though.

                          Gomez – Not Premiership standard.

Thomas – Started really well but gone downhill since.

Stoikovic – If he’s third choice keeper for Serbia, I want to see the ones below him.

Sinclair – Not good enough. If he was, he wouldn’t be on loan at Wigan.

Fek me its took just 45 mins for the first negative post.

Sorry mate, didn’t realise you’d had the humour bypass op.

Yeah they all played well but it’s a pity someone didn’t remind Scharner the Oscars ceremony was yesterday.

                                Correct, T.B !

We are not dead & buried yet. I think 38 points is enough for survival, so 3 wins & 4 draws will do.

                                Keep the faith

So that’ll be just the three wins and just the four draws. Last time I checked, you didn’t need goals to get a draw but you need at least one for a win.

                                That’s that plan scuppered then.

Did you buy her an iron for her birthday too?
