City have one of the richest owners on the planet and the worlds best academy. Didn’t stop them failing miserably in the CL yet again thank god for Leicester.
City’s were built to offset spending within the fairplay rules
good write,
We missed our chance to invest in a top quality Academy and produce young talented lads that might have seen us through the darker times.Lets face it, Christopher Park is hardly a Top Academy type set up is it. I’m not talking the likes of City but a modern new Academy to attract young players from the surrounding Prem clubs.
Lets see,
Boselli or an Academy ?There’s a shortage of good building land for properties so those few residents who would prefer a peaceful life wont stand a chance.
That land will only go up in value and if it was bought under the club then it’s the property of the club.
But back to my point, it wouldn’t have cost the earth to build up an Academy in comparison what we wasted over the years.Euxton cost the club 2.2 million and considering the money we’ve wasted on certain players (I haven’t got all day to list them) I cannot figure out why some wasn’t set aside and an Academy made are number 1 priority.
An as for “wages” took the money ?,before we took the drop we had the lowest wage bill of all the established teams in the Prem. We had FA Cup money , and Europa money the year after but we felt it wasnt the right thing to do and by that time it was way toooo late in the day as the money was used to try and get back in the Prem.
I’m in no doubt that, that very bad decision not to go ahead with it will come back to bite us on the harse while young talent in and around the North go elsewhere simply because of whats on offer and that’s no disrespect to the lads running the show now.
….but offset that against the cost of going down to League One…might have been worth it.
Not many people know the Championship as he does.
Fine line between running a football club and ruining a football club, one letter to be precise!
I’m just glad Joyce go his “letter”
His P45
at 62 years of age I think Barrow should move over rather than be shoved over to development or something.
The next manager needs a clean slate, He needs total control as to who he wants as his backroom staff. Barrow has been loyal to the club and knows it inside which will be the new managers first problem.
I said it before, don’t be shocked if Graham Jones gets given a chance, he must be itching to give it a go himself. If he does , it’s back to sh*tty pants time every time the balls rolled out to our back 3For me Barrow is in the same boat Shearer was in when he was given a similar amount of games to save Newcastle from the drop. Shearer unsurprisingly failed but at the time was thought to be in a win win situation, a hero if he saved them but not thought too badly of because of his respected status at the club if they went down! I personally would like the next managerial appointment to be someone who is allowed to bring in his own backroom staff and just start afresh. We should have got rid with 15 games to go, for me it’s too too late. It would not help the cause as the panic buttons only just been hit when it should have been hit weeks ago.
For me it’s down to the players to react, do they want Div1 ?, or do they care cause they know they’ll be off ?. That wont help a new manager.
Were better trying to get out the sh*t with Barrow in charge then once the season ends get someone appointed then ,,,,,but ,,,,get f**kin looking now !!!
He’ll have the summer to get rid and bring in and start from fresh.Yeah I’d have him, how do we pay him ?, Rubber stamps ?. If he take the drop the only type of manager were gonna attract is, those who’ve had half a dozen pops at it and are sh*t (Coyle been the prime example) and very young lower league managers looking for an opportunity.
I know which I would go for, a young and hungry ambitious manager who wants to do well and has worked on a shoestring budget before but knows how to motivate and get the best out of players. At this stage in the clubs history and more than likely in Div1 a tactical type manager would come third on the shopping list.
Hard work and perseverance will pay off.
Are we in agreement (for once)I think he has a point
There’s lots to agree about in there. I never understood why we let Flores go out on loan then bring the likes of an unfit Hanson in.
If Hanson were a far better player then point taken but he’s not but not only that the overriding factor we need now in pride and passion from the players, something Wigan born and Latics fan Flores has in abundance. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to see us go down without a fight, crazy decision crazy but there you go, Joyce never failed to shock us
If Graham Barrow plays his cards right he can be in a win / win situation. Given that you are already writing him off, if he plays an out and out attacking style the fans will support him for having a proper go; and who knows, we might win enough games to escape the drop. In my book, he might as well; nobody will criticise true endeavour, because the damage is already done. I say give him a chance, because he’s the only realistic chance that we have got !
because I suspect that if we play with an out and out attacking style but still get beat 4-2 in each of the 9 remaining games then he will get absolutely crucified!!
I dont think he would get crucified, I’d prefer to go down all guns blazing rather than rolling over and let them tickle your belly and lose 1-0 and draw 0-0.
It’s now down to the players and how much they actually want to remain in the Championship and with Wigan Athletic. I honestly don’t care now I just feel a dark clouds been lifted over the club and with 9 games to go the pressure is on the bigger clubs who are sat just above us, the likes of Forest and Wolves.
Barrow in charge is akin to dropping out of the frying pan and into the fire in my opinion! !Your probably right and you think he wants the job right now ? who would your on a hiding to nothing.
When all said and done it’s now down to the players end of. We can talk about till the cows come home about how sh*te Joyce has been but at the end of the day it comes down to those 11 on the field giving their everything.
At this moment in time and the form were in were down, the players have nothing to lose there’s more pressure on those above similar to it’s harder staying on top of the League. So this team/squad “HAVE TO” (yes have to) give it everything and lets see were it takes us now the big black cloud of Joyce and misery has lifted.
One last bit of advise that might help us get out the mire
Bogle , try looking down the line hey you might find there’s only you thereIt’s Barrow till the end of season. I’m not bothered who is put in charge (well bar Coyle) just as long as Joyce were gone.
If we go down its not down to Barrow its down to the mess Captain Chaos has left us in with umpteen unfit loanees clogging the wage bill up when it could have been used to bring in someone who could have actually contributed to helping us get out the muck were in.
Me thinks Graham Jones will get an approach in the summer. I’m sure at some point he’ll want to break off from Martinez”s apron strings and have a go himself.
It’s not like he doesn’t know the club and no lack of experience. The only problem was ,
it was a month too late
its official he’s gone ;-
