Will be a good test if Uwe wants to take us up this year !

My reference to Shilton was around the fact he got nowhere near any pen! At least Shilton went the right way. Carsons technique and the way he sold himself on every penalty meant it was easy for their players to see which way he was diving. Anyway. Onwards and upwards!

But Shilton got near to all of em – just not quite near enough!!

the point I’m making is that Shilton didn’t sell himself before the penalty was taken & he didn’t save any of them. A keeper has to go early otherwise coz unless its a really weak & feeble kick they don’t have enough time to react & cover the ground needed to save a well struck penalty.
Having just watched the penalties again, other than the bouncing across the line that Carson did, when it came to the kick itself both him & Fabianski sold themselves in pretty much an identical fashion – the only difference being that Fabianski got lucky twice (or the penalty takers didn’t read his movement as well as Arsenal’s did) & went the right way & the penalties were hit at an ideal height, speed & angle for him to save them once he had done so
Carson had a good game but never rescued a chance for us on the pens. Still think Ali would have save one or two.

At the moment we are one of the big spenders in the league with such a big squad and players in it. Once the pennies run out from the premiership we would be in trouble with our low fan base. So premiership is the aspiration. Also if we had no desire to end up in teh premiership, just surviving in the Championship, it would get dull.

Yay, we agree on something! ;)

Ideally, I would like us to be on a three-year cycle:

Year 1 – Promotion to the Premier
Year 2 – Consolidation in the Premier
    Year 3 – Relegation to the Championship…

… and back to Year 1.

Alternatively, I’d also be OK with a four-year cycle:

Year 1 – Promotion to the Premier
Year 2 – Consolidation in the Premier
Year 3 – Relegation to the Championship.
Year 4 – Championship play-offs but knocked out in the semi-final…

… and back to Year 1.

Not too much to ask, is it?
Cant have us agreeing…

We should also have a European adventure in Year 2 or 3.

Eddie Ilderton. Now there’s a name from the memory banks. He started his league career quite young and I remember him refereeing us against QPR in 2002 when he got basically everything wrong.

Was that the 0-0 game? Danny Shittu played for QPR
    ??
Danny Shittu…..snigger lol

Bang out of order, that. You simply cannoy use that word on a public forum.

    Oh, you said snigger!! Sorry!
:)

I’ve read sporadic posts about the ‘FA Cup Champions’ song and the arguments as to whether or not it is correct. I see myself as being a bit of a pedant as far as use of the great English language is concerned, and I must say that, on balance and on points, I agree with the great unwashed that ‘FA Cup Champions’ is correct as far as carrying vocal weight to opposing fans and self satisfaction is concerned. Though not of lingual perfection, ‘Champions’ conveys the warmth, gravity, and the syllables, that ‘Winners’ and ‘Holders’ do not.

The latter are not certainly incorrect, in a lingual sense, but lack considerably in comparison to the former as far as singability is concerned.

My point being, no other club in the 142 year history of the FA Cup has ever referred to themselves as FA Cup champions, literally correct or not! No more to say on the subject – it’s been done to death, and I’m sure we’re all bored to tears with it.

However, your comment about warmth and gravity is the biggest load of cheesy, luvvie, thespian bullshit I have ever seen written on this forum ;)
I doubt that you have done enough research, or indeed would be able to find out that no club in the 142 history of the fa has referred to themselves as FA Cup champions, either officially, via the terraces or local folklore.

in reply to: Internet SF tickets tomorrow from 12pm! #128968

The announcer chap said it about 2.50pm and the club website has been updated.

Basically internet sales to ST holders from 12pm tomorrow, no phone sales until Monday as previously announced.

Just thought I’d mention it; it might save someone a journey and queue tomorrow :cheer:

Its not like Wigan to have a shocking communication about such an important event such as this. Why leave it till most people are in the bar to announce it….

They should sack the communications officers at the club.
So they announce it in the ground because most of the club’s real fans would hear it there and everybody else gets the news via the club’s offical website. What do you want them to do, drive round to your house and tell you in person? Actually, knowing you, you probably do. You don’t half like a good moan you, do you?
Well most of the players pass my house on the way to the training ground each day, so yep that would be ideal if they could pop in and let me know.

All I ever ask is that the club acts professionally, and time and time again they show they dont have a clue. Why not inform people well in advance, say when the tickets going on sale was announced, use of email to say season ticket holders.

And no, thankfully you dont know me griff.

Yep queued up 03:00 this morning very enjoyable experience great banter and plan to do it again next time with tent and barbe and visit the red robin at night, bad head now though.

    Why ?
Some people like that experience, the majority will enjoy logging on and getting tickets included preferred seats within 5 minutes.

    Each to their own.
