And before anybody picks me up for commenting on Martinez’s plight soon after our great win at Norwich, I have already acknowledged the win on another thread. :P

That is a fantastic result, however we are not out the mire until we start winning home games.

It will be a great escape if we do avoid relegation and hopefully we can then sign some players, instead of having half a team of loanees.

Fingers crossed for 3 points Saturday and a push to catch the next target Rotherham United. :cheer:

Thanks for the memories Big Dave, its a real pity that you are bowing out on a low with the whole racist thing and the current plight of the club, on the field not off.

I really hope the players understand and appreciate what you have done for the biggest, little football club in the world and bust a gut to try and help us stay up.

The name of Wigan Athletic is well and truly etched on the name plate of Football world wide and its all because of you.

Have a long and happy retirement Mr Whelan, you fully deserve it.

Made two saves by my counting.

He also failed to make two saves and the ball nestled in the onion bag. One perfectly good goal.

is laughable.I knew we were pooh at home but ffs since we beat Brum on 30th August weve played 13 games at home of which we drew 6 lost 7. 6pts out of a possible 39.If you want to make the figures read even worse then last 7 home games 1 draw 6 defeats.Looking at these stats ,particularly since McKays arrival really hit home to me the amazing fact that he has survived. Will it end tomorrow if we lose ?

Its ok wondering if Malky will get the chop, but who TF could we persuade to come in?

It will probably be a disaster sticking with McKay and will probably be a disaster if he goes. The damage is well and truly done now, so I suggest we stop worrying about the rest of this season and look forward to a proper rebuilding job next season.

I shouldn’t need to enlighten you, if you watch both codes, you must have looked around the stands and worked it out yourself. All my “both code” watching mates have.

World club challenge? Australia and England challenge. From the clips I’ve seen today there were loads of empty seats at the DW last night. We all know what is done to boost up the chubsters attendance.
Do the Aussies win out for battering all their soup or leek opponents?. Just wondering like.

Anyone? Didn’t see anyone stand out at all. Two strikers is great but with two shocking displays by the wingers and equal ineptness from the other midfielders the strikers didn’t stand much chance relying on their own lack lustre approach. Defence ripped apart and keeper not too bright. So that leaves no out and out starman.Ratings out of ten then? All ones and that is on the generous side. Why has Whelan let this disaster happen??

I did it was a midfielder who goes by the name of Kim. Looked a class above, kept hold of the ball well, ok a few passes went astray, but for commitment, endeavor, will to get the ball moving forward, he was by far the best player on show out of the 20 odd who featured. :cheer:

I’m just saying it as I see it Fil.The buzz around the ground for the first 20 mins was great and balls whizzed into the box from both wings.

The Kvist injury and more so the Clarke injury, resulted in the atmosphere going flat and with it our strangle hold on the game. Anyone with half a football brain could see that.

First 15 minutes then after that the same old story. Lost our shape once we lost kvist & best. But personally, i think our days are numbered now.

Best? I presume you mean Clarke.

But there was no need to lose our shape at all, as we had like for like swaps, and either of the subs could have started instead of the ones who did.

It’s not as though we had to suddenly play a teenager goalkeeper in then centre of midfield. The injuries were unfortunate, but they shouldn’t really have made a difference at that point – possibly just later as we ran out of sub options.[/quote]

I don’t agree that the forced changes didn’t change the course of tonight’s game. Fortune and Clarke were clearly winning the battle with the Charlton central defensive pairing and that allowed us to win more second balls. Replacing Clarke with an “on your shoulder” striker meant that we lost the vital hold up play and gave them more of the ball.
The other problem we had was that Kvist was replaced by a player who’s confidence is rock bottom. Having gifted a goal in his last home game he was lucky not to give them a gift within minutes of coming on and eventually did gift um one just before half time, although to be fair it still wanted finishing.

Personally I think that but for the injuries, we may have seen a different score line. Those forced changes did affect the shape of our team although I totally agree, they shouldn’t have. :(
