Latest from Newsnow in absence of our good friend Donelley from over the water.

Incomings

23 year old Dundee centre back Declan Gallagher has been mentioned in some quarters as ready to join, he is out of contract at Dens Park and already rejected three new offers, he was the main stay of a very good Dundee defence that conceded just 23 goals in 36 league games last season, and at 6′ 5 he is a big presence on the pitch.

Rapid Vienna and USA international Terrence Boyd could be on the verge of joining the Latics if reports in Austria are to be believed. We have apparently bid for the free scoring striker, who has just one year left on his current deal, Rösler is understood to be impressed with Boyd’s all round play and work rate, as well as his goalscoring prowess.

Spurs midfield man Alex Pritchard is still being touted as a possible loan signing, a yearlong deal could be in the offing for the 21 year old who impressed at Swindon last campaign.

Do you mean like this?

First statement; Can you honestly say that any of the list of things I’ve put forward is not a true fact.

Second statement; I’ve just read your response to my list and basically I’ve rag dolled you.

I sit at the side of the tunnel in the West and believe me I have not made up any of those negative things about Martinez. They are 100% FACTS and not just what I see.

The one about the subs waiting to get on happened in more than 50% of all games. Where are you sat during a match, in the Moon Under the Water?

The one about Martinez standing there motionless with arms folded then clapping the likes of McCarthy for kicking a ten yard pass directly into touch, happened 4 or 5 times in every game.

Some will say there are different management styles and some players don’t react well to a good bollocking, well I’ve been in management for longer than I care to remember and know full well that the occasional bollocking is well and truly needed at times. The Mr Nice guys get trampled all over by those who work for them and are not frightened of making mistakes because guess what, they get applauded for it. Then what happens,James McCarthy kicks a 10 yard pass directly in to touch the next game and the one after that and the one after that…..

By the way when I wrote that I had not bothered to read your 3 on the bounce threads, I hadn’t. When I posted later that I had read your 3 on the bounce thread’s I had. That’s not changing my mind that’s telling the facts as they were at that time.
For someone who contributes some intelligent posts on here, you totally miss the obvious and theme of threads at times.

My mind is made up course it is, but 3 posts on the trot? B)

Seriously go and have a rest till next season, the other Beverley sisters have stopped in watching England and you should have done the same. I’ve just read your response to my list and basically I’ve rag dolled you. :P

Take your photo of Bobby and snuggle up in bed, you are showing yourself up lad.

Can you honestly say that any of the list of things I’ve put forward is not a true fact. If you disagree, then you have never watched Latics under Martinez.

If those things really mattered, Coyle should have enjoyed enormous success. Lots of people – those outside ES2 perhaps – enjoyed Roberto’s style. There aren’t many unhappy Everton fans – they think the School of Science has come back.

The results weren’t brilliant. They would have been better if Roberto had been given a larger – and increasing – budget and a squad big enough to overcome injuries.

Good management is making the most of your resources. By and large, Bobby did that. Meanwhile, Everton had a budget twice as big, and Liverpool’s was four times as big. Wigan were out of their financial depth.
My point is that those things DID matter to Martinez, forget that muppet Coyle. Stop all that silly stuff and you may have a winning formula.

Martinez has got a great football philosophy, but those things I’ve highlighted, prevented him taking us to the next level i.e. mid table obscurity in the prem.

How can you say there aren’t many unhappy Everton fans, do you know all 40 odd thousand of them?. I work with 5 and 2 say he’s doing a better job than they thought he would, whilst 3 are not yet convinced.

Martinez promised champs League football, in his first season not second , third or fourth plus another 5 on top of that.
The Everton fans last season had to watch their illustrious neighbours take that next step up under Rogers, they were fighting for the title right up to the death and finished well above Everton and in a champs league spot.

You say that all the Everton fans are happy with their first season under Martinez, I bet they are all over the feckin moon.!

Obstinate? Refusing to change his views?

I think that this post reveals more about you than Roberto.

Why should I change my views just cos you or anybody else on here for that matter says so.

If you don’t see that the man is obstinate then that’s your failing.

Can you honestly say that any of the list of things I’ve put forward is not a true fact. If you disagree, then you have never watched Latics under Martinez.

Let’s see if you can list as many positives of the guy, instead of just berating mine.

You also believe that its just me who has these feelings towards Martinez, I know there are many more, in fact many who frequent this board.

Roberto is in Rio with Howard, Jagielka, Baines, Barkley, Mirallas and Lukaku (and possibly Stones too).

5 out of those 6 players you mentioned were playing for Everton before Martinez joined them. Barkley had already set his marker down for an England place whilst under Moyes.
Did you think Roberto was going to introduce eleven new players to Everton? He built on what they already had.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka says there have been very noticeable differences in training and reveals he can “open up” to Martinez, who has made “life easier” for him as club captain.

All the players would agree that the arrival of Martinez has helped them in their development.

The fans are certainly looking forward to next season.

The only person who’s not happy is you! I don’t think that will worry Roberto too much.

What disasters do you predict for Roberto next season?
No disasters the man is a decent manager, I just can’t see him taking a team like Everton to the next level.
I was hoping and praying he would do it for Wigan, but unfortunately was wrapped up in his technical, tactical, one dimensional world.
To succeed in football you have to be prepared to change things now and again, unfortunately Bobby was too obstinate to do that. The aggravating part of this whole affair is that he didn’t have the foresight to appoint an experienced assistant, one who could once in a while say “hey Roberto things are not going well here why don’t we just…….”
A Wilkins, a Clarke, a Meulensteen, a Steele, somebody with a decent understanding of what it takes to sustain performances over a season. Instead he opted for third rate backroom staff, players who have never played beyond the third and fourth tier of English football, Jones, Barrow and Lawrence the first 2 being latics legends in my opinion but certainly not premier league management material.

I stood firmly behind Martinez during his time with us, captain of the lightside you might say, but for reasons I’ve stated a million times, chicken Martinez flew the coup when the going got tough and took his third rate backroom staff with him.

I just can’t see him changing doing things like;

Urging his players to keep hold of the ball even if it means passing the ball sideways and backwards when in possession 30 yards out from the opposition goals. this results in the majority of occasions back with his own keeper.

Forcing the goalkeeper to roll the ball out to his defenders, despite them being caught in possession just outside the penalty box numerous times in every game.

Although behind in a game, continue to pass the ball around in their own half despite the crowd screaming to get it forward and in the box. [this has already been picked up by a few Everton fans I know, they just don’t like this tactic]

Winning a free kick 30 yards from the opposition goal and taking it short to keep possession, rather than banging it into the box where teams can get hurt. This just doesn’t happen part way through a game, it happens with less than 10 mins go and when losing by the odd goal.

Going 1-0 up then defending deep for the rest of the game only to be opened up in the last 5 mins and throw points away.

Not bringing subs on despite waving them to get stripped and stand at the side of him for 15 mins and longer, before finally putting them on for the last 79 seconds.

Standing there arms folded despite things not going right on the field, even clapping players for stupid mistakes that warrant them being hung drawn and quartered.

Yeh, the man has done well for Everton last season and has maintained their normal league position. For all the above and more, I just don’t think he has it in him to take them to the next level and I for one will be chuffed as a butty if he don’t.

I see he’s been offered a new five year contract.

Obviously missing out on Champions League football isn’t such a big deal afer all.

Don’t be fooled by that, contracts mean Jack shyte in the scheme of things. I think this move by Everton just emphasises what an utter idiot BK is.

A poor couple of seasons and he may be left with either keeping Martinez or paying out a huge amount of compen.
Contracts might mean nothing when it comes to warding off other clubs from poaching your manager, but it speaks volumes in terms of whether the Everton board are satisfied with their manager’s first season in the job.

So, as suspected, Kenyon’s announcement that Martinez was going to get them into the Champions League was just a soundbite aimed at the unhappy masses who wanted a big name manager, and not an important goal to be included on his Personal Development Plan.
Who is this Kenyon geezer you refer to,Roberto’s spin doctor?

I heard a few days ago that we were tracking Terrance Boyd a 23 year old yank playing in the Austrian league for Rapid Wien.

It now as hit newsnow so you never know. He has failed to break into the USA world cup squad, but has got a good reputation of having an eye for goal.

At 6′ 2″ with a decent leap, he gets his fair share of headed goals. this could be what weve been waiting for boys and girls.

I see young Danny Redmond has signed a two year contract with Hamilton. I’ve seen the lad on numerous occasions in the rezzies and he has always shown great potential. I know it shouldn’t come into it, but his size for me has held him back from taking the next big step up[no pun intended]. At 23 he needed to get away and find regular football.

His ability and vision are bob on and also contributes with the odd goal. Scored a goal in less than every 4 games when last on loan at Hamilton.
Good luck Danny I’m sure you’ll be a great player over the border, will watch your progression with interest.

I am sorry to hijack this thread slightly and I don’t want to take anything away from this competition as its in a good cause and you can also win a bob or two, but if anyone wants to take part in a standard prediction comp we are doing one over on Vital as well if anyone would like to join in.

It is free to enter, you just predict the games outcome every day, if you predict a correct result ie draw or s win for the team you choose you get 2 points, a correct score gets an additional 5 point bonus, we will play this during the group stages as a straight forward league, the top 16 will qualify for the knockout stage where a draw will be made and you play directly against one other in straight knock out all the way to the final.

We have a ‘trophy’ for the winner and a few other prizes, if griff or Standish enters they have the chance to win a copy of their own book ‘Arsed’ which is one of the prizes.

Just been over to VL to look at the prizes and think that’s a bit mean. 3rd prize is a copy of Arsed and 4th prize is 2 copies of Arsed.
