bent and zamora were lower league players and perhaps ellington could be given a mention as well – didnt ian rush start at chester or wasnt john aldridge a bit of a journeyman at loer league clubs before liverpool signed him – teddy sherringham did the lower league apprenticeship and stan collymore learned how to use his feet down there (his perchant for using his hands beating women was probably a birth defect)
lots and lots of lower league players have made it before the easy boring route of cheap foreigners became the norm – now clubs are perhaps realising the foreign johnies are not all that they thought and are becoming more and more expensive for poor players
we may now all start giving lower league players the chance and encouragement to develop.remember one thing we have to take chances on this type of player either from this country or abroad as it is the only way wigan athletic will survive in the big league.
I’m very impressed with your post season positivity LMB.
Keep up the good work!! :scared-eek:

What a journey!Bobby has been working hard over the past 2 seasons on getting the players he needs and more importantly getting them to play to his style.
I can’t for the life of me think he would contemplate going to a club like Fulham and starting all over again.
Now a top 6 club…

What a journey!Agree, but he is without doubt the best man to get them straight back up, playing football or not. :scared-eek:

What a journey!I have read this thread with interest and find it surprising how many fans either:
a. Live nearer to another ground.
b. Live outside the borough of Wigan.I seem to remember a few threads passing comment on the number of out-of-town fans of Wigan Warriors.
Pot. Kettle. Black.
Don’t you also think that it’s amazing just how far some of us travel week in, week out to see our hometown team? Some of us are even ex-rugby players from Ince (albeit the proper, 15-a-side version of the game)[/quote]

What a journey!10th is higher than 16th, so I think you are talking out of your arse.N’zogbia will be sold before the end of August, and the longer it drags on, the cheaper he will become. Whelan will not let him walk away for free next summer.
So a team spending all that money for 5 points more is worth going to?
I’ll bet you as much as you want that we will finish above Sunderland next season, With Charlie or not. :snooty:
I’ll also bet you that the mighty wires dump you out of the mentally challenged cup.

What a journey!Doesn’t matter if we get drawn at home or not, the lodgers will have to bow down and move their game, just like they did for the Huddersfield Game the last time there was a clash.
A good opener for me would be Fulham or Wolves at home. :happy-partydance:

What a journey!I never missed an away game in first 2-3 seasons but a mixture of poor results, cost, been there done it, arrival of grand children and football streaming via the net, means I only go to about a third of away games. I have hit going beyond the midlands on the head all together, for more or less the above reasons. I think the Fulham away games have been the ones that have pished me off more, a club that we should take our fair share of points from, however we invariably get nowt. Its such a long road back, particularly midweek when we have played them.
Good luck to those who make every away game, I know what commitment it takes, but you have to realise probably 99.9% of our away crowds travel from Wigan. Most of the top teams in the EPL have a country wide fan base, therefore the make up of fans at away games, does vary a great deal from game to game.
I think the best we can hope for next season is an average of around 1000 per away game, that will be a great percentage increase on the 700 we got last season. From Matlock to ManU
