but this is a football board, and this is getting boring. So have a pop at the neanderthals who continually start rugby-related threads.
Here’s a stat or two for you:
100% of Wigan rugby-related posts on this site are started in a knock-down or insulting fashion.
0% of rugby-related posts are started by someone praising Wigan Warriors.
Such as the half-wit below who, I guess, is either a shelf stacker or drives a van for a living. I have tried to find a meaningful post by him/her/it on any subject but have failed.
but I know in our first season up they only brought just over a 1000 (a stark contrast to a few months before when they sold out the East Stand for a Championship game)
I note that you are an armchair fan these days – was that a game you actually went to or did you just hear it from a bloke in a pub?
Check about 1 min & 48 seconds into this link and you’ll see what “just over 1000 fans” looks like:

Sunderland dont sell out at Wigan? It seems they have! Again!!!

Seems you know quite a lot about Sunderland ,Thugby and tics  [/quote]
No – I just know when someone is talking out of their ringpiece and am happy to expose a bullsh!tter. Sunderland are well known for their large following, and to imply that they only took 1,000 to any premier league game is farcical. A quick look on youtube clearly shows more than 1K.

I also hear that several local schools have been given free tickets for the upcoming fixtures against Sunderland & Man City.
You could make some clear comparisons to this fixture and determine how much support has been lost. Last season, Wigan hosted Sunderland the game after a drubbing at Spurs. This season Wigan host Sunderland after a victory at Spurs.
Prior to last year, all the premier league fixtures between Wigan & Sunderland at the DW have been played early season. Every fixture has kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday.
Attendances so far:
2005/6 – 17223
2007/8 – 18639
2008/9 – 18015
2009/10 – 20447The constant factor above was that Sunderland either sold out or came damn close to selling all their tickets.
My guess is that the total crowd will be around 17,000, with 4500 – 5000 supporting Sunderland, but I guess it depends on how many take up the offer of dirt cheap tickets.
Nobody cares about attendance! I don’t anyway! For someone who doesnt care you have made an awful lot of posts on this thread.
A good win, made all the more pleasing that two players deemed not worthy of a squad place 3 months’ ago scored.
I’m beginning to wonder whether Terry & Lampard will get their places back as “new England” look a damn site more impressive.
Ok, serious question here:
Is the lack of support for your away games costing the club big time? At Spurs you could have had 3,000 tickets, but chose to take just over 1,000 tickets, and sold considerably less than that. Spurs must have sold those 2,000 tickets that weren’t taken up, but as the other 1,000 were on sale to Wigan fans up until kick off, then Spurs clearly couldnt sell them, even though they may have had 1,000 punters queuing up outside White Hart Lane.
Who picks up the tab for those 1,000 unsold tickets? at £40 a ticket, thats £40K, and if the club is funding £40K of unsold tickets every away game then about £1 million is going up in smoke.
Well, as your question was so hypothetical I chose the closest thing the Latics have ever come to lifting a trophy. I suppose I could have quoted the 12181 that turned up to see the Latics against Arsenal in their first (and only) semi final of a major cup competition, but as no trophy was presented, I thought of the Reading game.
However I note that when you last won a league title, 12537 turned up to watch Wigan v Barnsley on 3 May 2003 – I presume that was the day the trophy was presented. Or maybe it was against Oldham when the crowd was 12783.
I’ll also assume for the likes of BOTM that both the East and North stands were closed on police advice so that he can claim it was a full house.
Anyway, back to the present day – how many home fans will be there:
a. On Saturday.
b. At home to Man City.
I’ll bet this has been kept quiet too:
I’ll feel a lot happier when Fabio finds another right back instead of Johnson. Its unbelievable that for both club and country the guy doesnt have serious competition for a place in the starting 11. Jagielka was the backup last night and Carragher is the backup at Liverpool.
They don’t get 17,000 .. They get 8.5 thousand and take 2 seats each because they are all, Fat, sweaty, smelly, ugly MONGS!Jimmy – do you not feel a bit bad banging on about fat mongs when there’s a collection of spare tyres and double chins on the Cockney Latic facebook page?
17,000 fot Latics is `Poor`……………EH?Because 5,000 of the 17,000 have come to support the opposition perhaps?
Do you really think you will get 17,000 “home” fans for any football match this season? I hope you do, but being a realist, I reckon not even the Man Utd game will attract that many.
I suspect if the game was the culmination of a season which saw Latics win the league and be presented with a trophy then ALL the seats would be sold. What you seem to be saying is that despite enjoying your best night in about 15 years, your lot still can’t be @rsed filling all your seats.
Sun May 8 2005. Wigan v Reading. The most important game in Wigan’s history as a victory would secure promotion to the premiership.
Attendance 19662.
Empty seats – approx 5500.
Kind of blows your theory right out the window….
