Well Mr Whelan has agreed to sell and the deal has to be completed by the 14th. So come next Thursday we should have new owners and all will become clear.
Announced at the Blackpool game with a farewell from Whelan?
Nah, it will be Friday 16th Feb, to coincide with Chinese New Year.
My great concern is this.Say it all goes a bit ‘Hong Kong’ and he ends up leaving us in the deep doodah, and in danger. There’s no local businessman gonna step in and save us like before, we’ve played that card.
For me, there are too many unclear elements to do with this deal. When it happens they are going to have to do some talking to let people know their actual intentions. We are going from owners we know very well, to an overseas investment group who we know dribs and drabs about. His perceived lack of interest in football is very worrying.
Anybody who isn’t worried… You should be.
Can’t be any worse than Venkys, and Rovers are still alive !
And, Dave. They are amongst the richest business people in Asia, and that really is saying something.
If these guys are so rich, then they could easily afford to terminate the contract with the rugby and pay them the £20m or so compensation that may be due for buying out the remainder of a 50 year lease. That would be recouped with one season in the prem.
Similarly, if they are so rich and the pitch does hinder the progress up the league, then these guys are rich enough to move the football club to a purpose-built stadium that isnt below the water line, and that is full every week, as they wont want to have “their” club on TV in the far east playing to a 30% full stadium.
With DW, we knew what we were getting – an honourary Wiganer who loved the town, but these new owners have no affinity to the town, and could easily move their club to an area where there is a bigger fanbase.
Where would Wigan Athletic have a bigger fanbase?
Milton Keynes?
Now Sammy; that is funny for you :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Normally you come across as very drole.Major changes in every aspect of life arouses worry, scepticism and suspicion, it is human nature. Hands up who wasn’t just a little worried when we first heard that Dave Whelan was taking over the Latics and planning to get us to the PL in ten years? I was certainley sceptical and suspicious. if not wholeheartedly worried.
These people are businessmen and football with its global markets is big business these days. It is that big now that mere multi millionaires like Dave Whelan are finding it harder and harder to compete at the highest level.
This major new investment will hopefully be able to move us back up a level or two and allow us to be able to compete at the highest level of English football.
It may take a while as we have lost a lot of ground and money since we left the PL, but hopefully , and I keep stressing the word hopefully as nothing can be be taken for granted, this investment could help gain us a return to the top league again soon.
Champions League in 10 years anyone?I reckon 5 – 7 years :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
If you’ve not already read it you should give Chicken Hawk a read.Looks like an interesting read. Thanks for that.
Thought it was something to do with concourses.
That’s a design fault then.
Thanks for that info.
I wonder how many other new stadiums have been built but then find out later that they have been designed with too many seats for the infastructure.Who makes up the rules, because they need to take a serious look at other grounds before they penalise the Latics. Take Everton for instance, the last time we were in the Bullens Rd the crush in the concourse was really uncomfortable and based upon how Wigan are dictated to; you would have restricted our allocation to hundreds rather than thousands. Farcical rules, not farcical planning !
If he enjoys playing football and performing in front of a crowd, I guess he realised his chances of doing that are greater at Wigan than Brighton. If that is what he enjoys why go somewhere where he could sit on a bench, or comfy seat in a pair of shorts. Maybe he’s learning from Bogle, Watson, Yanic and a stack of others who thought they’d get a game every week but didn’t.Bogle is now on loan at Peterborough; or should I say “warning the bench”
No idea Paul maybe someone from the club may enlighten us for once and then we wouldn’t have to keep asking these questions.
Maybe it’s done to encourage more away fans in the home ends.Maybe 4345 is the amount City have asked for and didn’t want to pay for the remaining 1055 for fear of not selling them.
Maybe 4345 is the amount available for open purchase and City have already secured some of the balanced as corporate “give aways” for companies and players ?
Well we all got our wishes; now let’s finish the job !
Are you confident ?So have we kept our crown jewels ?
Where is he in the pecking order behind Will then? Before Vaughan or after? Two up front Donny :woohoo: At home :woohoo:
Devante Cole in, apparently !
Andy’s lad.Probably just a rumour, but I hear that Powell isn’t in love with playing football, like Jimmy Bullard for example.
He’s good at it and it’s a job. But he’s not greedy and obsessed.
I think he’ll still be with us at midnight.Yep, that was circulating about two weeks ago.
Look everyone of our players has got a price. In Powell’s case anything less than 10 million is charity. 3 million is an insult.10 Million plus Christian Walton, more like !
It’s got live on BBC on Friday night written all over it.
Nah; Sunday, cos we play the Donkey Lashers on Tuesday.
and for Citeh it is sandwiched between a Champions league trip to Basel & the Carabao @ Wembley. Just maybe, they will treat Wigan with too much disrespect :woohoo:
