Try this. One nil down second half just started.
Anything thats nets us more than 5 points in 11 games will suffice.
Beggars can’t be choosers.
A bit of attitude on the pitch might just be what we need.
You could then say that if Stephen Hunt had been dishonest he could have gone down when Al Habsi seemed to clip him for a certain penalty possible red card.
We deserved to lose that game. No excuses, our defending was terrible and our finishing was useless. Even the penalty was crap!
Not a pensioner but if you can’t have a moan when your teams lost eight on the trot when can you?
Oh go on we’ll just sit here pretending everythings ok, that’s what Bob comes across like at the minute, head in the sand bumbling along without any answers. Sometimes changing a manager doesn’t work but in our current predicament (albeit in a league where we have already hit our peak), what have we got to lose?
Thing is we’re never going to get proper answers, just what he wants you to hear. We’ve heard all the reassurances before about how we are endeavouring to do this and that blah blah blah. Simple thing the players on the pitch aren’t performing anywhere near some of their capabilities and some aren’t good enough.
All i want to know is does he look his players square in the eyes before a match and ask them if they have the fight to win a match?
For me it’s completely irrelevant the way we played when the basics just don’t seem to be there.
Tyldesley pointed out the absolutely inexcusable standing still on the second goal when Al Habsi was performing his heroics only for Gohouri to be taking holiday snaps from five yards away.
Even laymen like ourselves understand teams are built with a solid base, preferably right from the back to make sure the fundamental is you don’t concede before all other considerations.
Bobs lack of defensive aptitude just makes his passing game efforts irrelevant. Granted, Rodallega’s miss put us under pressure but this season so far, and most of last season it has been the same story.
The spine of a team, maybe apart from Al Habsi just isn’t there. Whether this is down to lack funds or misjudgement i’m not sure. (Maybe a bit of both IMO). The obvious lack of a leader is also there as well, with Caldwell seemingly unable to pull the squad together and offer a position where he is leading by example a’la De Zeeuw in his hey day.
Its seems to me that Martinez has to be accountable for most of the shambles at this moment, regardless of his efforts behind the scenes. He can’t do anything about lack of ability because that is probably all we can afford. He can however motivate players to close down better, not ball watch, not linger on the ball and take up proper defensive positions on a regular basis.
I don’t relish being able to say this as i wanted, and still want Bob to suceed but at what point do you have to start saying enough is enough. I commend people on here who can have blind faith and are loyal to the death but as there are many different types of people in life there are many different opinions and ways of expressing those opinions.
I applaud Bob for what he has tried to do for Wigan but i just don’t think we’re the right kind of club or a club with enough funds to buy players suited to his game. From a distance he doesn’t seem able to get his players up for games, all apart from the end of last season when the players seemed to be playing for him, maybe for contracts or because the spotlight was on more.
I don’t boo myself but its funny how Wolves fans booed the other week and pulled two goals back and another three points today.
Maybe someone needs to show their disapproval because Bob certainly ain’t.
I don’t think the argument, that who do we get in instead of Martinez, who is better is valid anymore.
By my estimates Barry fecking Chuckle could do better!
Does he not realise that the fans don’t buy into these press conferences though? So all they serve to do is annoy fans?
I think questioning the teams performances publicly without singling out players can have a desired effect and other managers use it to good effect.
The problem is that there might not just be any effect to be had and this might just be the level we are finding ourselves at. In bad runs of form, shaking things up and trying to promote a response from your players by differing means is essential. Fair enough he wants to keep a certain way of playing but around that he needs to be seen to be trying to shake things up.
