As I said, “working for considerably less £££”. He earned nowt between leaving Wigan and joining Ipswich, so he could have worked that time at Wigan for minimal salary and renegotiated once the takeover was completed, but he thought he was better than having to manage in L1, yet now he’s got a sacking from L1 on his CV, so how good exactly is Cook.
To Runcorn’s little dig – we are a 3rd division club with 3rd division players and a 3rd division manager, but play in an international standard stadium, train at a Cat 1 academy and have 25000 season ticket holders. Everything off-field is premier league standard. Everything on-field is pub-league standard. I agree that Klopp and Pep would struggle to get a tune out of this, and any other 3rd division squad, simply because they are 3rd rate players who play in this league because nobody higher up wants them.
Looking forward to 26 February. Hope the big man is there in some form or another as he’ll get a tremendous reception from the 5K visitors.
He should have stayed at Wigan IMHO, even though it meant working for considerably less £££. He had a chance to have become a legend, but instead he thought himself too good to build a club back from nothing, or maybe he realised that he wasn’t up to the task and could only work well when he was spending someone else’s money on players. He seems to have blamed everyone else, including the fans, for his 19 signings not doing the business at Ipswich.
Typical scouser – always the victim, its never my fault.

Get a sponsorship deal with a travel company and call it the lastminute.com stadium.
With all these late rallies, snatching draws from defeats and victories from draws, the phrase “Wigan Walk” should now be a thing of the past.
Excellent comeback last night and even more pleasing as I stuck a few bob on a draw at 16-1 in the 79th minute. You guys have a habit of grabbing something from seemingly impossible situations – maybe its the mentality of those still there who were royally shat on in July 2020 rubbing off on everyone associated with the club.
That sort of character will get you promoted.
The reason the game was called off is that the rest of the squad who were identified as close contacts would have to immediately isolate and take a PCR test (if double vaccinated), and only be allowed out of isolation once the test comes back negative. Thats the law of the land.
PCR tests take longer to record a result than a lateral flow test – usually 24-48 hours. Even the private ones take that long. With the symptoms and lateral flow tests only happening on Saturday morning, they didnt have enough time to rustle up a goalkeeper and a squad of kids to take the field.
Its a pisser for the fans on Saturday, and I’m no fan of Oxford, Karl Robinson and their on-field shithouse tactics, but for once they have done the right thing here. I’d be more pissed off if they’d used it as an excuse to get future games called off.
Lets hope the covid-positive players, staff and families get through this unscathed.
The law is that the vaccinated close contacts in the rest of the squad need to isolate and take a PCR. If negative, they are eligible to play. Those unvaccinated close contacts will have to isolate for 10 days.
As all adults have been offered a vax, I dont think there is any flexibility in future games being called off because of close contacts having to isolate and whilst it is not much comfort to Wigan, Oxford’s next two opponents will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of facing the youth team.
I suspect they are also regretting rearranging the league game with Sunderland for a fortnight today.

Considering we won the FA Cup less than than years ago no excuses the crowd today was appalling. You could hear a pin drop the atmosphere was that bad.Less than three thousand , shocking.
There were quite a few clubs who had low attendances compared to their average. I read somewhere that Charlton’s was 25% of their league crowd.
Do you feel that still being in the cup is a good thing, or would you rather get out of the cups and just concentrate on the league?
And before anyone asks – I’m really not arsed about Sunderland’s exit and the dream of the “quadruple” is over! We’ve been shocking ever since the draw was made for the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup. Hopefully we can somehow get eliminated from the Pizza cup in midweek too.
McClean player of the month and is the player who can make a difference and break a side down no matter how resistant and stubborn they are. Rested FFS!
Its poppy on shirt time – no real surprise he was “rested”.
I’m up in Wigan at the moment – good job the game’s being played tomorrow instead of today – its bloody wet up north!
30 October 2021 at 2:48 pm in reply to: Will Morecambe go the same as Fleetwood and Lincoln? #194550If the players called up have featured in more than 50% of your league fixtures, then you could consider them as first teamers. When the likes of a 3rd choice goalkeeper gets called up for some random U21 game and a club uses the rule to get a game called off because they have a couple of injuries, it becomes beyond a joke.
