I suspect McGeady is on less than that actually Nuneaton, having just signed a new deal. Nobody was going to pay him the silly money he was on before, and clearly if Wyke has taken the largest offer, then it stands to reason that Sunderland are now paying what players are worth in L1 rather than what they were worth in the Championship. He also extended his previous contract by a year to effectively halve his wage, and recently waived his right to a year’s extension, so I doubt its about the money for him. He is settled in the area with his kids at a local school and is at the end of his career. When you compare him with the other Irishman at Sunderland who bleeds the club every week for close to £20K whilst putting in zero effort and garbage performances, then they are like chalk and cheese.
And of course, 8K a week doesnt represent 33% of ST revenue at Sunderland, considering we’ve flogged well over 21,000 already with Adult prices ranging from £360-£500.
In context, £8K a week will equate to around a third of all season ticket sales going on the wages of one player.
I agree with him too Egg. Signing players from the top end of the 3rd division should mean that you wont finish a couple of points off the relegation spots this coming season.
Slowly building a good squad that should easily be able to consolidate at the very least.
He’s had one very good season – the two before that were pretty woeful. 10K a week for a 3rd divsion player is a hell of a lot considering the average wage is £2K a week in this league, but i’m sure whoever has sanctioned it knows what they are doing. I know that Sunderland didnt think enough of him to pay him that sort of wage – possibly because they are paying almost double that for a certain other striker who is still fluffing chances from 2 yards out.
I hope he does well for you from the 2nd game of the season onwards.
Wycombe were chief drivers in having the L1 season curtailed and using a straight PPG method as it propelled them from 8th place (most of their remaining fixtures were away where their record was shit) into a playoff spot. The fact that Peterborough were the team to move down to 7th place by Wycombe’s antics and now Peterborough replacing Wycombe in the Championship is true Karma.
Wycombe are the ultimate shithousery club.
That said, I hope any punishment given to Derby is such that it makes their chances of staying up nigh on impossible so the club have to go through a season of slow death, losing sponsors & investors, players etc. If they have fiddled the books then committed fraud to win their appeal they need not just the book throwing at them but the whole library.
Scotland drew their Euro 2020 cup final, and no doubt they will dine out on that for the next decade.
For the rest of the world, the facts are that they fucked up their two home games and England finished top of the group, despite the Jocks best efforts to infect the England squad with Covid and scupper their chances.
This sums them up perfectly:

I didnt think you’d have the balls to put your money where your mouth (or keyboard) is. Your suggestion that Power has a better chance of returning to the Championship with Wigan is based on what exactly?
A big welcome home Max bet you couldn’t wait to get away from that shower of Shyte. Coming to Wigan gives you another chance of playing in the championship again, cos that MASSIVE club you’ve festered at for the past 3 years will never get out of L1.
My £20 says Sunderland will finish higher than Wigan. Are you happy to wager £20 that Wigan will finish above Sunderland in 21/22 then JR?
Right now its all about doing enough to qualify – there’s no trophy for winning your group in the style Italy have.
That said, we were dire last Friday, but at least we’ve put the onus on the Scots to qualify through their own efforts, unlike 25 years ago when they blamed us for “only” winning 4-1 against the Netherlands, which eliminated them by one goal.
It’ll be a lot different to last time. Wasnt he there when you owned two training grounds and were a big name. Hopefully the dumbing down process at the small time club has prepared him for training on a ploughed field with jumpers for goalposts and playing on a shit pitch in a soulless stadium with thousands of empty seats every week.
Righto!
Well, I suppose if you sign Kane, then Max will be able to point as to where he wants him to make a run before he whallops the pass into touch/an opponent/20 yards in the wrong direction.
Lower-end 3rd division at best these days. I hope he’s not your marquee signing…..
If you want someone who is superb at pointing where he intends to pass the ball, then Max Power is available.
Bravo catalan. Pour toujours dans notre ombre.
This 50% + 1 principle is all well and good until the 50% + 1 are asked to help fund the losses.
Current net debt at Old Trafford is £455m. I doubt the 70,000 ST holders will each want to hand over £3250 to clear half of it.
