This refers to the relaying of the pitch in 2010:
https://www.pitchcare.com/magazine/a-triple-edged-sword-for-wigan-athletic.html
“We carried out a major renovation, removing the top few inches and replacing it with fresh materials, using a Blec Sand Master to improve its porosity. The pitch was then returfed and I’ve been pleased with the result ever since. It is probably the best it has been for many years in terms of vigour, less divots and better infiltration rates.”
Getting the land for free is news to me but hardly surprising, knowing the purchaser and his keenness to put price over and above everything else!
Thats what you get? when you put two herd of cattle on football pitch.= farmers field ;) .
Both Swansea & Hull share with rugby clubs – Ospreys even play during the football season, yet their pitches looked pretty good on MOTD this weekend.
We’ve had this debate before. The DW is built on marsh land next to a river. It has always had a problem after prolonged heavy rain. The water table rises and there’s nowhere for the pitch to drain. That seems to be the general concensus.
I thought the pitch had been raised a few years ago to counter this problem.
Perhaps its just down to location, where the owners of the KC and Liberty stadiums bought a piece of land based on quality rather than price.

And you would have also seen a crowd in excess of 20,000 there to witness it. That’s the third time a minority sport has achieved this figure since you last managed it. You should be thankful that one team in Wigan is still managing to attract the paying public.
I thought it was a stadium management company who happens to be owned by DW. However, “if” any of the money goes to Latics who “apparently” own the stadium, maybe you could spend the money on some cardboard cutouts to occupy the 14,000 seats that are regularly empty on matchdays. Who knows, they may create some atmosphere!
These fat mongs are wrecking our pitch. Unbelievable that we continue to allow these scrubbers on in the middle of the season.Maybe they are doing you a favour seeing as you havent managed a single win since the fat mongs stopped playing last September when the pitch was in perfect nick.
With the “talent” you have in your squad, maybe the ball getting stuck in the mud every few yards might nick you a point against such footballing giants as Cardiff. After all, a muddy pitch is a great leveller!
Stop making excuses.
12-14000 fatties have managed to make it from out of town to the DW every other Friday night for the past 10+ years, so its not that difficult for your masses to make it from inside the borough of Wigan.
Is that 12-14000 in total for the last 10 years? Because I watched the Huddersfield game and assumed that Charnley had been posting pictures of his needle dick on Twitter again and they’d been forced to play behind closed doors it was that empty and quiet.
Empty and quiet….you’d know a lot about that this year would you. DW this season has been like a library full of your “novels”.
The Klumps are the Man utd of rugby, their onabowt doing a special game down London? Now thats plucking at straws. Why are they not haveing a game at Scotland or Wales. ;)Because they fancied having the game in Wigan on a Saturday. That’s why you played Friday.
Or rather that’s why Charlton played Friday. Not quite sure if Wigan knew there was a game going on.
This fixture change has got nothing to do with which club or sport takes precedence, Sky decided.I seem to remember football taking precedence a few years ago when sky made the Warriors play Bradford at Widnes on a Friday night.
Face it, you are in the process of returning to your natural level. The bubble’s burst, the novelty value has gone and the town is red again.
Can somebody enlighten me to what this game is about?Wigan are losers aren’t they, St Helens should be the ones playing the Brisbane Bummers or whoever
Its a pre-season friendly for the Australian side and the game attracts no points, no medals, no trophies.
It counts for nothing, yet the biggest sport in the world featuring one of the most well-known sides in the world gets shunted aside to make way for a little-old rugby friendly.
Now, run along and make sure you keep the pitch in good nick for the main event of the weekend. ;)

About six months or so they will be booted out around June for a much needed pitch renewalNo doubt putting down an extra three layers of mud to cope with 3rd tier football. Cant have a smooth pitch come September when Fleetwood, Walsall & Rochdale come to town eh? ;)
Its where you can get cheap tickets to friendly games that take precedence over 2nd rate relegation battles.
Groupons generally cost money, whereas free ticket giveaways dont.
Enjoy your Friday night 6 pointer and try not to rough up the pitch too much for the friendly on Saturday…
You may well have had a couple of valid points there, oh fickle one, if it wasn’t for the facts that next weeks grappling match isn’t a friendly
Are there league points at stake for the winners?
Do the winners get a trophy?
If the answer is “Yes” then you are right. If the answer is “no” then its a friendly game that stands for nothing in the grand scheme of things. The only “fact” is that it was considered more important than a lower league fixture against some south London side which got shunted to a Friday night.
Thought those mard arsed gets only played in summer. Was it a pre season friendly or summat? Thought the parasites were playing some Australian side in a pre season friendly next week at our place. They are. That’s why your game has been shunted to the Friday night.
