Don’t go then. I’m sure you will though.
I am sure he will because he sounds like a proper fan who cares about his team, not like some who bailed out and turned their backs on the team eh ! :) [/quote]
Who has bailed out and turned their backs on the team? What is a “proper fan” and is it worthwhile being categorized as just that if it makes you feel better? Does the football world care about those “proper fans”?
Don’t go then. I’m sure you will though.
Problem is whats the incentive to go, no pride , no passion and no commitment. Like watching England all over again. I can honestly say this morning I am embarrassed to be a Wiganer.Problem is and a hate to say this but I think the game in this country is about to implode.
More images in the papers this morning of overpaid, large ego player’s rubbing it into our faces.
People go on about how cheap it is to watch Wigan, after a performance like that you begin to question why bother. Not sure today if the problem is Wigan or football as a whole, but slowly the game for me is dying.
Embarrassed to be a Wiganer? Gone are the days players represented the town and it’s people they went decades ago. How many players live in the town and if asked what do they know about it to warrant wearing the tree & crown? Being a Wiganer is one thing, but footballers playing for my hometown club do not represent me.
The game in this country is about to implode? Where have you been the last ten years? That’s the problem with supporters and the reason I got out, football died so long ago people won’t allow this to digest and continue spending pots of money on empty pipe dreams. The game is shambolic. Being a retired fan as my username states, I switched on Sky Sports News and the penny dropped with me totally. The running commentaries by Merson etc is almost like the world is going to end, I’ve never seen so much hyped up bullshit ever, or perhaps I have, I just never saw it truly. Having read Brian Clough’s book recently, he had the same complaint how he can’t watch football anymore with the hype and build up like it’s a World Cup Final each week. He also complained about so called “pundits”. I always wondered personally why Andy Gray was never a manager as he has all the answers. Sky Sports is a disease and people should have seen this at the inception of the Premiership. How I long to watch older football where I can it’s much better and the players were a different breed.
Your final sentence is deafening and a realization i felt years ago. Get out man.
Pelican you mentioned “homegrown from the area”! Hardly anything to do with the new ruling so that’s a poor excuse.
Nevertheless we agree on the youth setup at least, or lack of it. :)
Had to chuckle at Pelican’s post above regarding “homegrown players”. Are you aware Wigan are the only top flight team without an academy/centre of excellence? Wigan’s idea of players are those released by local clubs at 16 i.e Baines.
You won’t see an academy either as they are subsidized, Whelan doesn’t do that being a businessman.
Stop paying in to football’s greedy pocket and don’t go :)
Incredible that people pay all of that money from their hard earned wages to watch millionaires running about :)
Just studied the goals more closely and the attacking play of Blackpool. What is wrong with Figueroa? He seemed disinterested in following the man at any pace and no urgency in closing down.
Kirkland captain? He can’t manage his own box.
As a team they were very comfortable in strolling around. Martinez has them believing in themselves which is fair enough, but that needs matching with at least some form of work ethic.
It was horrendous.
I actually think folk are overlooking the real issue which seems to happen for all hyped up games with such a climax. The referee’s seem to want the need for their moment and the occasion clearly gets to them. We are living in days where red cards are so paramount with rulebook quotes that decent common sense doesn’t get a chance in the game anymore. They got a penalty, a scoring chance repeated regardless of Caldwell’s sending off. He should have kept the lad on.
I watched the first half and was too disgruntled with football, not the match, with the obvious twist and turns of a huge game with high stakes. I turned it off. The premier league can continue to rant how great they are for a little longer.
On the other hand my prediction that Caldwell would have a moment came quite true! Before the sending off Wigan were doing just fine.
Good find, although I believe Martinez drives for perfection and Whelan’s statement reflects this.
Lack of activity over the years with different managers at this time of season is becoming all too familiar.
I can’t possibly think of the drawback in making any new signings…
I’ll never forgive Reo-coker for the smirking and goading he did with Brian Deane all the way up the touchline when they scored the late goal back in the championshipSeems like he’s done a bit of falling out in his career
People soon forgot Kavanagh and his wild Stoke celebration with that winning goal at the JJB :?
Hindley,
Are you and many other supporters coming round to the realisation that Mr. Whelan is clearly an asset stripper, nothing more nothing less?
Dave Whelan the asset stripper. Are people now smelling the coffee?!
Ivanovic dive.
Yes their would be outrage. That’s just the way of the fickle football supporter.
