Whilst Kone is decent it must be remembered that other than the team he is about to join he scored against Southampton. Newcastle. Norwich. Reading. West Brom. Villa. Oh and Huddersfield. Only one team on that list (West Brom) is in the top 10. Against decent defenders he aint exactly prolific!
And how many chances did we create for him against “Southampton. Newcastle. Norwich. Reading. West Brom. Villa. Oh and Huddersfield.” Compared to the other top 10 teams??
Not a bad set of 3 players considering we haven’t spent a penny.
If Kone and McCarthy go for the sort of money we expect them to I would hope the majority of those funds would be spent on a couple of proven goal scorers.
A 20-30 goal striker will be the difference between a promotion push and mid table obscurity.
They changed it back weeks ago
Another possible signing. Judging by the comment left at the bottom of the page, it might be a long season!
Just when you thought it was looking promising we go and sign shit like that. What a fucking joke. Cheap, cheap, cheap option again. Fucking idiot Whelan. Penny pinching bastard.Looking at the signings so far it looks like Coyle is bringing in a few seasoned championship type grafters, mix this in with what will be staying and add a couple of quality signings and we may just have the right balance to compete for promotion next season.
I, for one think that policy is pretty much spot on.
One thing is for sure, silk purses are not the only thing we need if we want to go straight back up, this coming season will be more of a battle than any of our relegation fights.
I agree with old man river here.
With the amount of players we need you can expect a lot of them wont exactly stop the press in the local rag but these are two players who are very comfortable at this level.
As far as Crainey goes we were absolutely desperate for a LB and taking that into consideration he might not be the only LB coming in before the start of the season.
I would say that, despite Coyle’s claims the other day that he never wanted to sell Al Habsi, that he doesn’t think he’s that good a keeper. If he’d really rated him then there’s no way that he’d have been 3rd choice at Bolton behind Bogdan & JaskelinenRight my turn to be pernickety…
I dont think Coyle thinks Ali is not “that good a keeper” otherwise he would of got shut at at a lot less than the £4million he pulled out of Whelan’s kung fu grip.
Why do you assume he would be ahead of Bogdan or Jaskelianen if Coyle thought he was “that good a keeper”?
Despite being king of the ginge Bogdan was player of the year at Bolton for 2012 so its fair to assume he did something right.
And I think Jaaskelainen speaks for himself in terms of being a premier league approved goalkeeper.
So I refute your claims that there could be no way Ali was third choice at Bolton as he had 2 very capable GK’s in front of him.
He is a looker to, a right one for the ladies…http://www.skysports.com/football/player/0,,11787_387974,00.html
Looks like he will fit in around Wigan then ;)
Just heard Martinez has signed him. Don’t think we have any out and out strikers now. It will be a struggle next season, when Whelan said two seasons to return, I am now beginning to see why.
So everything Mr C said yesterday about kone was bullshit then!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder if Dave Whelan will have a pop at all the deadwood martinez signed that leaves us where we are now, before jumping ship and now coming back to strip us bare.
Still he loves WAFC so he will be forgiven by the same ones who couldn’t see through the bullshit of the last four years.
Here LMB… Have a snickers.
You turn into a right Diva when you’re hungry.
Better?

If you mean Coyle he said that everyone in the world knows about his release clause and if its met they will most likely have to do business….
Is this the bullshizzles you refer to or am I missing something?
Be gentle if I am missing something :)
He is highly thought of at Celtic ( or was before he wanted to leave ) as a no nonsense defender.
However…. the lad is made out of glass.
Coyle out.
Ali has been a fantastic keeper for us.
His shot stopping is some of the best I have seen in a latics shirt however his tendancy to knock it back in the direction of the opposition and his poor distribution means he is by no means an all round good keeper.
IMO If they want to pay £4-5M I will drive him up there myself.
Why is he messing around signing his mates when we haven’t got a match fit CB at the club!
Coyle out!
I dont think for a second JayT was saying that Lee Nicholls should be awarded with a certificate of authenticity announcing him as a fully qualified Championship keeper because of his time at Northampton.
He was probably pointing out like everyone else he had a great season and deserves his chance.
I think you were being excessively precise and attentive to detail (some call it fussy) and were requiring too close of attention to the wording of a point that we all agree on anyway!!!!!!
Hence you were being Pernickety.
Not that I expect for a second that you will admit it :P
Just incase anyone is struggling to understand the meaning of the word pernickety…
pernickety [pəˈnɪkɪtɪ] US, persnickety
adj Informal
1. excessively precise and attentive to detail; fussy
2. (of a task) requiring close attention; exactingDon’t be quoting things you have read in the paper on here. According to some It’s a load of B******S ;) They must get their information from a Crystal Ball
No its just anyone with a shred of common sense takes note of the actual quotes in an article not just the title.
I let the truth speaks for itselfYou keep telling yourself that, sweetheart ;)
