Fair play Tyldsley you called this one , but I will take comfort in the fact we did it with three up front…
Sorry but I have to completely disagree.
This 3-4-2-1 or whatever you wanna call it system played with the players we have has Latcis looking much stronger defensive & goign forward than we have done in a long time.
Take it away & you go back to the sometime shambolic centre half pairing of Caldwell & Alcaraz & put Figueroa back at left back where he’d barely played well in the last couple of seasons.
Going forward Latics seem to be creating far more chances & to change this system woudl take that away & go back to the system which was looking so poor & devoid of creativity earlier in the season. The simple fact is that Latics are much stronger playing the current system. If you change it all about because of Valencia it takes that strength away – i think Latics would be far more likely to get a(nother) 4 or 5-0 hammering
No offence I just fail to see how changing a system that has brought only 1 defeat in the last 8 games would make Latics more likely to get a resultThe new system is great yeah but what I am saying is if you think its going to work the same against Man Utd as it does against a poor Liverpool and Stoke then you’re in for a shock…
Let me be clear though my heart would like to see us go out in the current formation and have a go at dominating the game and winning with some of the great football we have been playing but my head tells me that is just not going to happen!
Just wanted to pull this up and say I have never been happier to be proved wrong in my life :cheer:
WELL DONE BOBBY goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost goodpost
dont want to put a downer on the man u game but
am i the only one that thinks united let us win the game and did not try to win it because of the injusice done against chelsea
after all united were eight points clear and certs to win the prem anywayI can honestly say thats the biggest load of B*ll*cks I have read on here in a long time.
And thats no easy acheivement.
Well done goodpost
Trawl back. He’s posted dafter things ;)
I bet you’re not wrong fella but I have no intention of trawling back through his rubbish.
Anyway, regardless at present it is working very well & IMO suits Latics playing personnel down to a tee apart from that fulcrum of the attack (is that better than saying lone striker??) currently being occupied by Di Santo – & if his main job is to score he aint doing that very well!! ;)I agree re: him not scoring.
But in terms of recruitment this is always going to be a problem position for us no matter what formation we play…
Imagine what we could do with an Ibrahimovic type player leading that front three.

I’m well aware of what Martinez has said on numerous occasions but he can say it until he’s blue in the face coz Di Santo is a lone striker.
The other 2 (at present Moses & Maloney) are midfielders whose main purpose is to get forward in support of Di Santo when Latics are attacking but who are also expected to drop back into more defensive midfield positions when Latics don’t have possession. They are by no stretch of the imagination strikers nor is their main position “up front”.
I see the current formation as a 3-4-2-1 (or actually 3-2-2-2-1) but its all about how you define it I guess – from what I can gather Bobby sees our formation as fluid depending on whether Latics are in possession or not, atatcking or defending etc.. so at times yes there may be 3 up front but its not an up front as in the 2 up front you see in a 4-4-2 or more comparable the 3 up front as Latics used to play with Liddell, Barlow & Haworth under Ray MathiasBobby refers to it as 343
Exactly what I was going to say it is. What do they say … Great minds think alike :silly:
Possibly turning to a 5-4-1 when defending.
You also have to recognise that Maloney and Moses get in far more advanced positions than Di Santo when he has the ball.
I’m not suggesting he is a holding striker as I think his job is to get up there and score and be the front front of the attack but he does drop back allowing Maloney and Moses to come into the game.
I would quite literally trade my left testical for a 1-0 win tonight.
The doctor will see you now, Mr Salford ;)
Doctor ” I don’t know how to tell you this Mr Salford but you don’t actually have any balls to remove ” !! B)
I had already traded my right testical to get us into the premiership so that day trippers like you can jump on the bandwagon :silly:
What is going on with your karma thing man ? Someone doesn’t like you !! Before you say its me, I have told you I don’t use the thing myself !
I think a few people dont like me on this board but I wont be losing any sleep over it :cheer:
Anyway its kinda nice having someone work day and night on my Karma it shows they obviously care
I am sure he is happy – just like the rest of us
However, I think this is the 3rd or 4th time I have asked this question (and not had a worthwhile answer)
Why didnt we show the desire, passion, fight, commitment and skill to the same level in the first 25 games of the season
Go on then I will have a go…
Because Rome was not built in a day.
And neither was a football team within Wigan Athletic’s budget that can produce the sort of world class performance we did against Man Utd.
Does that give you the general jist or do I have to go in to more detail ball_bag_head?
You may be getting carried away there my son with the ” World class ” bit !!
As for my views on sudden improvement, the inclusion of Maloney and RM realising that obstinacy is not the way forward !!
I disagree.
Barcelona , Athletic Bilbao and now Wigan Athletic have all applied the same principal’s to their game which allowed them to completely dominate for 90 minutes against IMO one of the best teams in the world.
If you cant call that a world class performance I dont know what you can…

I’m not trying to seek out disagreements with you recntly Tyldsley honest!
But the part where you mention Di Santo as a lone striker has already been put to bed by Martinez who wanted everyone to realise we dont play with a lone striker we play with 3 up front.
Roberto never talks any bollocks…
He speaks the truth
He is our saviour
Best young manager in europe
THE MESSIAH
:P

Hinders_Blue, Loud mouth poo, Filmoss, wiganWOmon…. can you hear him?
Well done Salford we have IMO just got the best result in our clubs history and as usual you turn it into a potential slanging match. I was over the moon last night and still am so no rise from me pal :P
Give it a rest Hinders you’re the biggest sniper on here.
And I am just gloating a bit as Roberto is now repaying the faith that I had in him as a manager (the best young manager in europe).
Obviously you could’nt smell a good manager if he was right under your nose in your own club.
But I do think that this is arguably one of our best results in the “look how far we have come” category…
And to summarise I’ve read your dribble through the bad times and you can now read mine through the good.
Not that I am counting chickens just yet… although we do have 2 more chickens than Bolton at this moment in time.
As 34 stated, it’s when people get all pedantic over the language use and punctuality blah blah blah it gets annoying.
Punctuality??? Quite ironic that you apologised for your delayed reply yet had a go at people who criticise your punctuality. ;)
I could write a very neutral article every week that expressed no opinion at all and sparked no debate. But that would be rather pointless in my view, so I have no choice but to provide ammunition.Very few read the one you write now, I reckon. Don’t go writing two.
And my opinion on the ref last night? He made mistakes for both team, the disallowed goal, the corner, Figgy’s handball, not sending off Evens, possibly Welbeck’s penalty claim etc. But he was poor for both teams, and after having so many decisions go against us over teh years, especially against big clubs, isn’t it only fair we got away with a couple last night.Nobody asked for your opinion as far as I’m aware.
Seriously, keep on writing. I don’t particularly care for much of what you say or how you write it but that’s just my personal opinion and you at least generate some discussion. Suppose I should put my money where my mouth is and write some alternative views but frankly, it’s much easier to just snipe at what you write. ;)
I have mentioned that if this is to carry on then no autographs and posing for pics as eventually the players WILL get sick of it. I was berated for suggesting that ! Like many it is not for me but if these happy clappers want to carry on then fine. Eventually the numbers will dwindle and it will die out but in the mean time like those copper bracelets some people wear for rheumatism, if you think it works then fine by me !
And so with the final gripe pf putting doom and gloom on whatever the club and supporters try fo do the last member of the darkside makes a feeble effort to put a cloud over a gorious victory for his alledged club he supports you knobhead
Well said 30!
Eat your humble pie filly with a side order of world class football and give it a rest….
