But it’s a wholesome family game where the officials are treated with respect…!
“You’ve lettuce down Bruce” was heard as the cabbage was thrown.
The funeral was a fitting send off for Owen with so many friends and acquaintances, past and present, taking the time to pay their respects to a true gent. A tribute to Owen was also included in tonight’s program.
It was Owen I met that day, such a shame. Rest in peace.
Owen and his brother were telling me how Norwich was one of their favourite grounds to go to. Used to make a weekend of it. I’m going to Norwich for the first time this Saturday and did wonder if I’d see them.
You would have done, with his brother Trevor and a few others.
Owen called the weekends away following Latics “jolly boy’s outings”.For anyone wishing to pay their respects to Owen the funeral is at 2.45 next Monday, 1st October at Aspull Methodist Church.
Is this Owen Hughes the ex entertainments agent ?, either way R.I.PYes it is.
Part of the Wigan music scene for over 50 years. A top bloke and diehard Latics mon. Our West Stand gathering is now one person less and will never feel the same again.
It was a pleasure to have known you and call you my friend.
RIP OwenMuttywhitedog is more interested in the goings on at Wigan Athletic rather than team he claims he supports. As usual he was looking for a bite and got one.
Spot on sammy, although i think we still played it when nzogbia scored against arsenal and west ham but i shall stand corrected
This is getting silly, how can you tell someone they are spot on then immediately correct them for two things they got wrong?
Like I said, let’s put a line under this thread its just becoming a “love in”.
Because your reasoning was spot on silly even if your examples werent
But his reasoning was based on the fact that the goal celebrations for Zoggs goals would have been spoiled with music, when in fact music was played. So was both celebrations ruined by the music?, that should have been the argument. He got it totally wrong and so have you. Still about 50/50 on the poll by the way so no matter how loud the anti music lot shout, the case for music or no music is inconclusive.
It must have slipped my mind during the euphoria which ensued and confirms my view that goal music is either a cringeworthy embarrassment or totally unnecessary.
Do you think playing music would have enhanced the goal celebrations when N’Zogbia crashed in that last gasp winner off the post against Arsenal or when he scored another in our comeback against West Ham to relegate them and allow us the chance to secure our Premiership place against Stoke, or perhaps when Maloney smacked in that goal against United and finally, and most notably, Will Grigg’s finish against City when the roof almost lifted off?
No need for silly music there to prompt us and allow middle aged men to make a prat of themselves by gyrating along to it.“Ah, but the kids love it”.
Do you think that in years to come when those kids are asked what turned them into lifelong Latics fans they are going to recall it’s because music was played when a goal was scored or that it was the unforgettable experience provided by the likes of N’Zogbia, Maloney, Grigg and Ben Watson?Put like that Sammy, debate over, no music after goals, it is definitely cased closed.
Should never have been a case opened, horc.

It’s either right or wrong. Well not even that. It’s just wrong.
Doubt Wolves fans would agree Sammy Liquidator is an integral part of their match day experience and along with Hi ho silver lining which they come out to has become their identity in a way. This at a ground that normally has great atmosphere.
Are we talking here about music played when teams come out on the pitch, for which I have no objection, or after a goal is scored?

Nowt wrong with a small town surrounded by big and other clubs having small support. I can’t understand the mentality of anyone criticising Latics support. It’s pretty big considering all the factors and it’s about time somebody started shouting that from the rooftops that Latics are well and not poorly supported even if crowds seem poor to some.We could start by not adopting the “small town with poor support” mentality of playing music after a goal is scored.
