I accept that there are probably people who live nearer who are bigger fans than you, and hence could be called the biggest fan. But I didn’t know you even were a fan of them, Eggy :)
Three of my colourisations in there – that’s what’s turned the tide :)
It was simple – St Helens win and they stay up. Anything else they go down.
Town scored after 36 minutes and hung on – until a 90th minute equaliser relegated them.
Well, do I view that as “I’ve seen one relegation this year, that’s enough”, or “Well, this is the year I see two relegations”? ;)
I noticed one patch of play on Saturday.
Fortune received the ball in a poor position close by the right touchline. Three Brighton players surrounded him but he shielded the ball trying to wait for support. He managed to hold the ball, and when help did finally arrive he played a neat touch and then moved past the defender into space. The ball was played back to him (not brilliantly) and he attempted a cross which hit a defender.
The moaners around had a go at him – forgetting (or being too dim to see) that he had created the opportunity in the first place.
It’s good to keep this site ticking over. There appears to be a fault though that means that posts about events two years old are only just appearing.
Hopefully it will soon be sorted. ;)
One of the headlines on News Now. Surely not.The Newcastle United blog that reports this from the local Toon rag says:
It’s a Sunday so take these transfer stories linking players with the Magpies with a pinch of salt, and one of them is an exclusive in the Star today, which reports we are interested in signing James McClean, the former Sunderland winger, who is now at Championship side Wigan, who are second bottom of the Championship and could well be relegated this season.
The 25 times capped Irish International is hardly the caliber of player Newcastle fans will be expecting the club to sign this summer, but at least he would be fairly cheap, which is one parameter Mike Ashley values highly in the transfer market.
The reason the Star gives of why Newcastle may be interested is that Steve McClaren tried to sign the 26 year-old in January for Derby County, and he would be keen to get the Irish winger on Tyneside, should he accept the head coach job at Newcastle this will be offered to him this summer.
If Newcastle do appoint McClaren as head coach that will mean Newcastle’s mediocrity in the Premier League will continue, with the former Middlesbrough coach hardly having the credentials that can take Newcastle challenging for a top six position in the league.
There’s a lot of ifs in there.
Do you guys NEVER give it a rest?
Perch.
Has quietly got on with his job.
I don’t want the ticket – but I don’t think we have a PM facility anymore?
Or can someone put me right on this?
McManaman and Maloney (to name just two) had their chances and consistently underperformed because they couldn’t be a**ed playing for us in this division
Where’s all this Eric Black bashing coming from?
He only came back to the club in July and since Mackay was appointed, he’s been virtually invisible on matchdays.
He was highly thought of when Bruce was our manager, and he’s a well-respected coach.
Are people confusing him with David Kerslake – who was always prominent in the technical area on matchdays? Black was the one sitting down, who Mackay never consulted.
Barrow knocking I can understand (although he was rated by Martinez), but not Black.
Standish, I cannot get my head round why Eric Black seems to have gone backward with his career. I remember him being at Cov and the general census was that he was on his way to the top. Yet another reputation in tatters after coming here it appears. To be honest I thought he would someday manage us but for whatever the reason ( probably Barrow) he has not stepped up has he?.[/quote]
I think Eric Black is a very good example of good coach but poor manager. Kenny Swain is of course the major example – a very good coach (as is seen by his England Youth role) but an awful manager. The roles are very different.
Black was only manager at Coventry from December to May. Alongside a manager who seemed to know what he was doing – Bruce – Black flourished, but on his own maybe not so good.
Hopefully he will provide great support to Caldwell.
That’s the point perhaps, JR.
We can say such-and-such a league is better or worse, but if a striker has a ball at his feet with a target to aim at, no matter whether Champions League Final or Sunday League he should be able to shoot and hit the target. If there is a top-class goalkeeper or defence who clear it then that’s what makes the difference.
What is inexcusable, which is what we have, is strikers who don’t shoot for goal, and who can’t hit the target. Take the shot, hit the target, and you will score goals.
I have seen McKay for a full 60 minutes in a Development game – so not very high level. Reminded me of Boselli.
Kept running into space, but “non-productive” space, if you know what I mean, so the ball didn’t come to him. Didn’t do enough in my eyes on his own to make things happen. Maybe a poacher if others do the work, but at Championship level need to create more himself.
Just one game, to be fair, and what we’ve got isn’t working, but as I keep saying – many are asking why he isn’t playing as though he is the answer to all our problems.
He isn’t. I hope he can become that though. Maybe with the correct support around him.
So not really bothered as Nichols I think is better anyway.Did you click on the link? ;)
Can people stop calling him GC?
Confuses the Hell out of me :(
