Wigan are not going to appeal against the decision. McManaman will now serve a three match suspension, and will miss Doncaster (h), Middlesbrough (h) and Nottingham Forest(a).
Forest is also at home, isn’t it? Three home games missed, which is “slightly” less a penalty than any away.
I know what the original point was – another swipe at Rugby League, which has its elements of morons, just like football.Suggest you get your own glass house in order before chucking stones at someone else’s.
I think you’ll find the boot is on the other foot. Hence my tongue-in-cheek title for this thread. How many times have we suffered abuse from rugby supporters on their message boards and in the Wigan Evening Post about the disgraceful behaviour of football fans, and how many times have we actually seen accusations that it was them football men that caused it used after trouble at rugby games?
The stone throwing started a long time ago, the other way.
We lost because most of our players had an off day, and Perch for some reason decided to back pass stupidly. The sending off – whether correct or incorrect – didn’t actually make a difference, and had Carson not made a brilliant penalty save they would have been well out of sight (correct call by the referee for the penalty too).
Get over it and look forward to Tuesday.
Whether the game has “gone soft” or not is not the issue. Them’s the rules.
I agree we’ve travelled a long way from Nat Lofthouse or Bobby Smith shoulder charging goalkeepers into the back of the net – but that’s how it is now.
You could get paranoid about the FA’s view of the town though.
Wigan Robin Park were playing an FA Cup tie yesterday at Emley in Yorkshire and were 2-1 up at 90 minutes.
Emley equalised in the 96th minute, and won with a penalty in the 99th.
Yes I remember the last time we wore green was the season when Ray Mathias was in charge and we won the Auto Windscreen Shield at Wembley. The green kit that season was never available to buy as far as I can recall.
We won the Autowindscreen in gold and navy.
In the 99 season we had white with green trim as our chang ekit, and green with white trim as a third kit.
Firstly hats of to all the Wigan fans who travelled down to Bournemouth today, …..Thank you.
However – it wasn’t at all a good performance but it was down to individual players not playing well. Holt struggled to make an impression, Maloney wasn’t on top form, Beausejour was rather off the pace. We gave away a stupid goal and didn’t really create many (any?) real chances.
Great tactics by Carson at the penalty though. Without seeing the sending off again on the Football League Show I can only report on what I saw at the time and I didn’t think it was a red-card foul (if in fact a foul) and I think their players reactions (and maybe his reputation) got him sent off.
It was a long way back, but I’m not in despair. In some ways it was a good wake up call. We’re going to need to battle harder. We may just have underestimated Bournemouth, and it’ll now be interesting to see how we bounce back.
This division particularly is a marathon and we haven’t left the stadium at the start yet.
St Johnstone fans couldn’t get visas to go to Belarus. They had one supporter there – a Scot who lived there.
Best hope we avoid some of the farther reaches.
PSV or AC Milan?
I’ve been to both grounds. Bl00dy rubbish, Wigan.
You’re not a politician are you, Mutty?
If cornered, ask a question irrelevant to the original point. We aren’t discussing OUR fans……
We wore all green against City in the Division 2 league game in April 1999.
No reply for over two hours?
That joke really bombed :(
Love them. It’s just scary that some of them are nearly 40 years old!!
The Fraser Fyvie that played midweek for the Scottish Under-21 side that lost 6-0 to England? :)
One thing it showed in that programme was if you had no contributions to the state you got nowt zilch not a pennyThat’s not actually correct. There was Supplementary Benefit which was non-contributory means-tested.
