I was going to say ‘cousin’ but thought it might be deemed as offensive content. Is that legal these days?
Think cousin would have been marginally preferable to “child” :) [/quote]
I was a nanosecond away from typing that, but went for the cousin instead. (I added the word ‘typing’ to that sentence to dispel any rumours.)

14 December 2009 at 2:47 pm in reply to: So Bobby Head ‘reluctantly’ wants to sell Figueora eh? #15239I think it will be Sunderland too. Have heard far too many rumours from numerous people for there not to be any truth in it.
Agree about the old ‘one swallow’ adage, but there will be a lot of people who’ve never noticed him until that goal.
14 December 2009 at 2:08 pm in reply to: So Bobby Head ‘reluctantly’ wants to sell Figueora eh? #15231So you think Martinez has just come and volunteered a statement regarding Figueroa? Do you not think he may have been pressed on the issue as a result of his goal on Saturday?
Martinez hasn’t stated that he is going to Stoke or Sunderland, merely that he expects the player to move on. He’s being realistic, not defeatist, or showing any lack of ambition.
The player won’t be forced out, but if he wants to go, what do you do? Force him to stay?
We are a selling club, and always will be in this league, and some of our supporters need to start realising this. We haven’t the resources available or fanbase to sustain our competitiveness, and even the likes of Sunderland or Stoke can offer higher wages etc.
Our prize assets will always move on at a profit, and after the weekend, he is probably the most sought after player we have.
He will go, and we will find another unknown foreign player to fill the void – who in turn will be sold on again in a couple of seasons.
Would tend to agree with you that we do not yet have the quality of players to play this system to maximum effect, but it has worked at times going forwards. The issues have come when the team have been peddling backwards.
I don’t agree that it’s not attractive to watch though, as I’d rather see a football passed along the ground as opposed to getting it to touchline and crossed in looking for someone’s head, but that is all down to a matter of personal taste.
I do think Scotland has his merits, but I would prefer a younger version. I’d love to see Kris Boyd playing there when he leaves in the Rangers January closing down sale, but if he goes anywhere it will probably be Birmingham or Cardiff.
A couple of energetic full backs would also be very useful.
Martinez is supposed to be looking for a new keeper. Another possible Rangers balance-the-books sales could be Alan McGregor, and he’d be a great signing, but would expect to be number one choice, and I can’t see that happening at present.
So, that’s about it for who I’d like us to sign, but reasonably expect us not to.
Bus, or more specifically, rear-end of, is probably a more apt description.
Piengravy
I wasn’t singing the merits of the system, merely pointing out what Martinez is trying to do.
The two men wide men do play as part of a five man midfield, but are supposed to push up in attack, and cut inside. Whether they do tend to remain too deep – too often, maybe so, but I can’t really comment as I’m not a coach.
Would disagree with that we need wingers on their ‘correct’ wings at present though, as there is nobody to cross the ball into with the present squad. Scotland can’t head it, and Rodallega is needs a ball to run onto. If we had a big lad to play up front, then it could be an option.
Fair enough Owd Git. I will consider my knuckles well and truly rapped.
Even if I had the time to contribute to such publications, I would not even considering doing so, as I’d just open myself up to criticism from people like me.

Could even be a tribute cat.

In my opinion, Scotland had a good first half on Saturday, and served as a decent foil for the two wide men cutting in.
That’s what he’s there to do, and why there is a left footer on the right wing and right footer on the left wing. For everyone who has been saying we need a right winger, maybe so, but he’ll still be played on the left. The whole style of play adopted by Martinez is detached from the traditional English game of the winger beating a man then putting in a cross for the big centre forward to get his head to it.
The idea is for the two wide men to feed off the target man, cut in, and be able to get shots on goal -effectively creating 4-3-3 in attack. The full backs are supposed to push forward, and cover virtually the entire touchline. Whether Melchiot is still up to this, is a matter for debate, but Martinez is allegedly looking for two new full backs in January.
I haven’t seen enough of Gomez to pass judgement on him…..in fact, I don’t even know why I’m bothering trying to explain this, as it will just be discounted as rubbish, and I’ll be accused of looking through rose tinted glasses.. 4-4-2 is the way forward. Hoof it forward. Everyone brought in this season is useless. Martinez out. Whelan spend some money etc etc.
Team play in stripy shirts

Supporters are over-expectant
Supporters calling for manager’s head four months into the season
Supporters are critical of owner and are crying out for him to sell
Supporters are critical of team’s style of playHasn’t this happened somewhere else?

Ah, they’re both Polish. That explains it. I thought it was their nicknames in text speak.
