Cattermole jumped on the band wagon now about whelans comments.Proper little Kaiber licker

I WILL punch the living day lights out of Cattermole if I see him round town. One of the best players to ever grace our pitch though (For our team that is)[/quote]

Someone better warn Cattermole to stop boozing round Wigan. He’s going to get in a whole heap of trouble.

    Crikey, this bloke is popular.

There are currently people searching for him who claim he is a long lost cousin/brother/friend/uncle/parent etc.

He must be really rich. I might email her my bank details now so she can send my reward onto me as soon as I find him.

He has raked in fortunes from selling off our best players and failed give that money over for team strengthening!

Whelan should give Martinez the finances to do the job.

News Flash…..Whelan has had enough of bankrolling the club, and has requested that truelatic4acoupleofyears saves up his paper-round money, and uses it, in conjunction with the rainy day Sky TV money (approx 3/4 of a billion at last estimates), and transfer pennies that are currently kept in a petty-cash tin on Brenda’s desk, to buy some new players.

Do you not think that ‘not one person in professional football has any respect for those who have not been lucky enough to be part of their select little club’ is perhaps a slight exaggeration? How many professional football managers do you know?

Of course they are not going to come out and say someone is a poor manager. What they would tend to do is say nothing at all.

Nobody had forced a gun to the heads of the managers Griff mentioned and demanded an opinion on Martinez.

I’m surprised you’re on this board at all. Do you usually manage to get away from the training ground early on Fridays?

In an attempt to “get down wiv the kids” I have rebelled and NEVER use full stops at the end of paragraphs on message boards. How radical am I?

As for the question mark, I was merely making a statement. If I had added a comma and the words “do you” at the end, then a question mark would have been in order.

Anyway, leave me alone – I’m a published author, don’t you know?

    8-)

With SW junior number two due in February, I will invest in your published work Griff as, although not virgin parents, your training manual may serve as a handy refresher for the present Mrs SW and myself.

    Punctuation sucks anyway, innit?

The media have built Kirkland up to be this sleeping England giant in the waiting, Someone like Burnley or maybe Sunderland would shell out 3m no hesitation.

Okay off the top of my head with 30m i will have a go. I don’t scout players for months on end obviously because im not a football manager, However i consider myself to have a lot of knowledge when it comes to football and i think i could build up a half decent squad with 30m so here we go.

Goalkeeper – Carlos Kameni – Espanyol – Available for free in the summer i believe so get in there for him now, Very good at shot stopping and very athletic.

Goalkeeper No.2 – Alex Smithies – Huddersfield – around 500k/1m probably – 19 years old and has burst onto the scene in the last couple of seasons, Seen a lot of him and every time i do im impressed. Commands his area and Defenders superbly for a young lad.

Left Back – Would like to say Gareth Bale but will be too pricey so…
Nicky Shorey – Aston Villa – around 2m – Out of favour and an England international, Must admit i wasn’t too keen in Reading’s first season but won me over.

Right Back – Alan Hutton – Tottenham 3/4m – Signed from Rangers a couple of seasons back for 9m, Isn’t going to get in for Corluka and they would most likely sell. Excellent at both going forward and supporting the Defence.

Centre Back – First one i would have a go for would be Michael Dawson – Tottenham – 4/5m. Good experience for a 26 year old lad, Been in and out of the side for a couple of seasons and needs regular football week in week out.

Centre Back – Fabricio Coloccini – Newcastle – 5m, Vast experience in Europe and International foorball, Musty be itching to get back in the big league and i dont think Mike Ashley would turn down 5m.

Right Winger – Aiden McGeady – Celtic – 6m – Hightly rated and highly skillful and quick. Has the attributes to take the Premiership by the scruff of the neck and is desperate to play in the big league with murmours of a rift at Celtic and their debt it could be a can go situation.

Attacking Midfielder/Striker – The Problem Position, We arent really sure whether Martinez wants a striker or a very attacking midfielder so i will add my own interpretation.
Bojan – Barcelona – Loan, Apparently was near to joining Blackburn on a season long loan so maybe available…….. If not
Giovanni Dos Santos – Tottenham – 3/4m, Signed as one of the most promising players in the world then somehow ended up self destructing and going out for a succesful loan at Ipswich. Exciting young player and probably one of the best bargains around.

Thats around 25m and a team that looks a hell of a lot better on paper than our current one. It would go

    ………………………………..Kameni………………………………

    Hutton…………….Dawson……………Colocinni………….Shorey

    ……………………….Thomas………..Diame……………………….

    …………McGeady…………………………………….N’Zogbia……..

    ……………………….Dos Santos……………………………………..

    …………………………………….Rodallega…………………………..

A very achievable team and a much better one than we have now. It’s not bad for starters. Then build and build and build on it again over time.
    …………………………….

Interesting, but first question: where’s this £30 million coming from?

Alan Hutton and Aiden McGeady? Hutton left Rangers because Spurs were doubling his salary – after long protracted negotiations, and even then he was told by Rangers that he was going whether he liked it or not. He would angle for a move to a bigger club than us, back to Rangers (though there is no way they can afford him at present), or worst case, Birmingham. McGeady is possibly the biggest talent in Scottish football – we have absolutely no chance of getting him. A lot of clubs are interested in him.

As for your valuation of Kirkland, it is way too high. He plays constantly on a knife’s edge. I’ll not harp on about how and why I know, but there is one big Scottish club and two Premiership clubs I know of where their opinion of him is that he’s a very good keeper on his day, but he is far too much of a risk to shell out on a transfer fee plus a substantial salary.

Portsmouth……sold all their best players, Defoe (hmmm, where’s he now?-Sorry!) Crouch, and Kranjcar.

Mourinho would have failed under those circumstances. Poison chalice that.

Is it right Avram Grant is back there? He’ll have to have the job. Doubt anybody else will fancy it.

Avram Grant is currently in an overseas capital city (4 hours flight, heading west) getting a work permit and the required documentation. I’d put my left tenticle on him being the next Pompey manager despite denying it in the press.

He’s been with the club for a month of so, but nobody was actually aware for what reason. Considering a lot of their current investors are Israeli and the previous (but one) owner Gaydamak was also also from that neck of the woods, I’m sure it isn’t mere coincidence that he’s appeared on the scene.

But Paul Hart…gentleman, and a Wiganner to boot.

    in reply to: bruce #13889

Griff, those comments were pure gold, however I did notice a fullstop and question mark missing. ;)

in reply to: paul hart #13821

Vat, he was most noted for Leeds and Forest.

A product of Golborne (as Griff pointed out) and Abram, and one who is always proud to consider himself to be a Wiganner, and also proud to have started his career on Abram Park.

He was set an impossible task at Pompey, and for anyone that has met him, he is a true gentleman and a thoroughly nice bloke.

He would be a fantastic addition at Wigan in some capacity.

Didn’t notice the other posts since I started mind.

    Yes, ditto to them all!

We have to win simple as that, if the players cant win on saturday we will go down, and that is were i end my support for wafc, if the players cant produce, and for big dave we are playing sunderland not birmingham, stop blaming other people dave and start looking at yourself, you have destroyed a team which only needed a couple more additions to take the next step, and to be honest i cant see us winning, :(

You are taking the pish arent you?

We are still in the Premier League for f*ck’s sake. The youngest, ‘smallest’ club ever to do so.

We have a Wigan born and bred chairman, and the nearest we’ll ever get in this league to a Wigan lad as manager.

Yet, you still blame Whelan? ‘Let’s push for the next step’: Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Everton, Wigan. It’s a natural sequence isn’t it? Forget Europe.

If we stay up this season, well done Roberto in your first season as a Premier League manager.

If we go down, we could all go to Parbold and camp out, Swampy-esque, in front of Whelan’s house until he gets the message and leaves town. Or, alternatively, appreciate what has been done for the club in a very short space of time, and continue supporting the team whatever league they are playing in.

I’m sick of the two poles we have as supporters. The ‘I was at Canvey Island and wish we still played in front of a thousand’ and the ‘Champions League or bust’ brigades. How many appreciative supporters are there out there? People who have seen the dross that was served up season after season, and who actually value the steps that have been made in recent years?

I’m sorry, but I thought the Premier League years would all end in May 2006, and for me, every year since has been a bonus. If you can’t abide life outside the Premier League, go and support Man U etc.
