wouldn’t mind going with a couple of hundred lads and smashing the place and the scum bags to pieces

I’d be a lot more ‘impressed’ if you left your 200 lads at home and went and tried it by yourself.

And you say Leigh is full of scum bags?
The Woolwich bit is where they were based. Arsenal refers to the munitions works. So they are now named after a type of factory, not a place.

But when they were formed they were named after an area – ie. Woolwich, and only dropped the Woolwich when they left that area.

Port Vale on the other hand, were named after a section of the canal that had not been known as Port Vale for many years when the club was formed.

Techically, both clubs were once named after an area that either once existed, or where they were once located.

    Best Regards

I suppose it should have been expected. It’s nearly Summer holidays, light nights and all that and their mums will probably let them have a bit more freedom.

is it true port vale are the only team with a name that is not a city, town or area?

    Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace has a tube station. Also Garswood, Arsenal were named after Woolwich Arsenal – where they were originally based, were they not?

I don’t disagree that, that is probably very often the case, one of my points is that as a season nears its end, a manager will get wind of players that are nearing the end of their contracts or have get out clauses & ordinarily you would think that he would ask his Chief Exec, Chairman or whoever to do their best to keep them (& maybe he did) if its in his and the clubs interests, I am suggesting that his view may have become distorted by a conflict of interest .

I don’t disagree. I’m positive managers are alerted of things like that, however, so are the Chief Execs – and they make decisions based on the best interests of the club.

So even if Martinez intended all along to take Alcaraz with him, there’s no way a player of Alcaraz’s importance to the club would be allowed to simply leave if it could have been avoided.

In our case, I think the threat of relegation deterred some of the players from renewing their contracts, and in the case of people like Figueroa, it was a case of getting more money elsewhere – so even if they were offered new contracts, they chose not to sign them.

As I said earlier, I believe Managers involvement differs depending on who they are and the clubs they’re involved with, we disagree and I can handle that, not sure that giving my opinion automatically makes you right .

You’re the club owner and about to sign a player, and soon you’ll be to and froing with offers, working out payment schedules that will satisfy both parties and ensure your club doesn’t over commit, whilst tying the club into several millions pounds of signing on fees, payments to agents, bonuses, extras, release clauses etc, and negotiating your way through a legal minefield and all the red tape that comes with contracts.

Who better to get in and sort it out than an ex-footballer?

Or alternatively, Martinez says to Jonathan Jackson ‘I want to sign Kone. I’ve spoken to his manager and he’s willing to let him go.’ and is told ‘Okay, leave it with us’.

And the manager’s involvement in the transfer process starts and ends there.

Dose kenwright no the player the thin waiter is signing got relegated last season mite have a bet on that dose eneyone no what odds on Everton going down.

Let me guess. You’re calling Martinez a waiter because he comes from Spain? Because as we all know, everyone who comes from Spain is a waiter.

That’s typecast. A bit like calling you, just because you come from the North West, an illiterate Luddite.
Technically ‘Luddites’ were from Nottingham and the East Midlands where they smashed up lace making machines which threatened their skilled jobs, the movement then flourished in East Anglia and Cornish tin mines, before moving on to the mills of Yorkshire and finally into the “north west”, so be careful of who you “typecast” and ‘what’ you cast them as before checking the facts.

Although I do agree with you about calling Martinez a “thin waiter”, all the waiters I have met are honest honourable people who don’t f**k off to another restaurant if a plate of food gets dropped, they clear up the mess and serve the dish again.
Whilst true that the Luddites were originally associated with Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, that was in 1811.

It’s now 2013 and the modern association of the word Luddite is:

‘any opponent of industrial change or innovation’

    or

‘In modern usage, “Luddite” is a term describing those opposed to, or slow to adopt or incorporate into their lifestyle, industrialisation, automation, computerisation or new technologies in general’

With the people of the North West of England being regarded by many (mainly) Southern areas of the UK as being a bit simple, stuck in their ways, and unable to embrace modern attitudes, combined with the grammar used in The Saint’s post – I stand by my comments.

Seriously, who can blame him for wanting to stay in the Premier League? Good luck to him. I sencerely wish him well.

My reasons for not wanting Murray to win are simple.
Watch the SSN clip fromhis local tennis club in Dunblane. Watch his homecoming after winning Olympic hold last year. Tell me how many Scottish flags you see and how many British flags you see. Did everyone wave English flags when Henman played?

The Scots want independance and so do I. I’m English.

Not all of them do Egg.

If you’ve ever been to Ibrox on a match day you’ll struggle to find a Scottish Saltire but the place is awash with Union Jacks.

Most of the Scots I know have said they’d rather move south than live in an independent Scotland.
