It doesn’t matter how fit you are or how good your diet is your body will only take so much before it starts to give in either with injuries or worse as we saw with Muamba, Foe and plenty of others.
Eddie Izzard managed 27 marathons in 27 days at the age of 55.
As a one off yes he did and all credit to him.
Totally irrelevant the two City games, back then we were in the same League as them not two league’s below them!We were the league below them the season after. They went on to win the league that year.
The point is, we rose our game just like Fylde did and got a result that on paper shouldn’t have happened. They did it once and came close a second time. It doesn’t mean we are no good just like those two results didn’t mean City were no good.
Was just a parade wasn’t it. A homecoming is when the team comes home. They had been home, gone again, come back again and paraded the trophy before we held that.
I blame that rugby game in September.
Best home coming ever on mine!Wasnt really a “homecoming” though. We had paraded it once.
Post a link to it here Fil and I will try to work out why
Without this coming out the wrong way, I am glad I didnt go last night.A few reasons why I didnt, weather, poorly child, and the fact that if we are supposedly a good side, we shouldn’t have needed a replay. But the 2 games against Fylde, no disrespect to them, have shown us to actually not be that good.
Also, I was so rigidly bored…and freezing, at Saturdays game, I knew that a night game watching the stiffs and never will be’s slogging about, wasnt going to be much fun. The keeper…will probably be back at Villa when we face Bournemouth.
Potential champs…playing like chumps.
So because we struggled against a side who played well above their level we are no good? Again, were City no good because we beat them in the final AND at their own place?
Regards Messi and Ronaldo, you will always get the odd genetic freak which is why we aren’t all marathon runners or all capable of the same things.
Did people really expect us to win 3 or 4 nothing? Was never going to happen. That was their cup final and they were always going to give us a game. They’re not actually a bad side. Look at our giant killing days when we were non-league and of course the wins over City. Were they not good enough after our win at The Etihad? They must have been half decent as they won the league. It’s sport. It happens. We probably under estimated them slightly as well.
Should we have rested players? Yes we should. Say what you want about the modern footballer but the way the game is these days they need to be rested whenever and wherever they can if you are going to get the best out if them week after week so with December being as busy as it is we had to rest some players. We will be better for it come the business end of the season.
Does the cup matter? Yes and no. Football is a business as someone else said and sadly there is no money in the cup anymore so it takes a back seat. As a fan I don’t like that but sadly it’s a fact and no matter how often we cry about it it isn’t going to change.
Sorry egg lad, normally I’m on the same wavelength as you most of the time but I have to disagree wholeheartedly with you on this. Why does the modern player need resting as much as possible? What has changed in the game to warrant these fragile cherubs being so protected?. They are fitter, stronger have far better diets and training regime’s better pitches and equipment than players past who would be offended if left out of a game. The Wigan Athletic story is the greatest ever told because of the successes in cup competitions and did it hinder our rise through the leagues? Did it bollox. Cook luckily got away with it last night. These are professional sportsmen and if they cannot reach the required fitness levels needed to compete in every game of a season then they should find another career. Also why does it appear that only players in this country need these RESTS. Messi and Ronaldo hardly ever miss games injuries apart. Sorry again egg but I will never accept that players need to miss games because “its the modern game”.
Players every moves are tracked nowadays both on the pitch and in training. Sky regularly show the distances covered by players in games which is usually over 10 miles and around marathon length for others. They do this upwards of 3 times a week, plus training where it’s possible they do more with sprints and warm up laps etc. It doesn’t matter how fit you are or how good your diet is your body will only take so much before it starts to give in either with injuries or worse as we saw with Muamba, Foe and plenty of others.
The days of the same XI for all 50+ games are long gone. Why do you think squads are now 25 man deep and not 12.
Let me make it clear I thought we were awful tonight.
But I wouldn’t blame the team selection – easy to criticise with the benefit of hindsight.
On paper that looked a strong enough team to beat a Conference North team. All other than Burn and Byrne who are regular starters were fringe players who have started league games this season (with the exception of the clown in goal) and are bench regulars. No comparison at all with the Accrington situation.
This was a great opportunity for those fringe players to stake a claim on a starting place, or at least for more game time.
And they blew it.I was told by a Villa fan that that keeper is pretty good. Then again he watches Rochdale and reckons they’re the best footballing side in the division.

That’s it Standish. Nowadays the money in the PL and even the Championship dwarfs that of the cup. That’s why it is looked on as it is.
Our win in 2013 for example didn’t cover the weeks wages.
We all saw how poor Fylde were there are simply no excuses. Put them to bed early and make changes when the game is won. If Cookie losers this with ridiculous selections as he did against Stanley then he must be brought to account. I doubt he will but its a chance to get a few goals and much needed confidence up front.Promotion is the goal though so as long as he gets that what else happens is irrelevant.
Walton
Byrne Bruce Dunkley Elder
Perkins Power Evans/Morsy
Roberts Toney Colclough
Rests a couple (who would all be on the bench) and gives others some needed game time.
it was a penalty all day long. He pushed him in the back. Enough to knock him over? Possibly not, but enough to have made him lose control of the ball. What absolute garbage, ive been pushed harder by my 8 year old niece, no wonder the egg chasers take the piss!
The way Herrera goes down to get Walker booked is what annoys me as a fan of both sports. Jumps in the air, goes down and then does a backflip almost. Gets up, checks the players been booked and then carries off.
