I think we would probably end up with Van Dyk as opposed to Van Dijk.
Im not usually one to criticise players or the team. However in some respects I get where cupwinners is coming from. Take for example the 2nd goal we conceded last week vs Oxford. I haven’t seen defending like that since my son played at under 7 level.
I do appreciate the fact these guys are turning out for our club & I too expected us to be where we are in the table. But come on, surely they should know the basics of defending.
You’re right, the defending is terrible but again that goes back to the fact that these players aren’t good enough, and as JayT said on another thread, we don’t actually have any coaches or any analysts to try and give them a helping hand.
It’s annoying, it’s depressing but as the saying goes it is what it is. We can’t bring anyone in that is any better.
Again it comes down to expectations and reality.
Playing the kids every week and losing every week will do nothing for their development. Some are also nearer to being first team ready than others. Don’t forget, these are the same kids that some people slagged off when we lost to Chorley.
The club has to do everything it possibly can to try to stay in this division so has tried to bring in some experience, but the stark reality is we will more than likely go down.
The players we have brought in are in the main, no good. They’re the players nobody else wants. But one thing they do have is that they signed for us wanting to play football. They all know the situation in terms of money and won’t be on big wages. The loan lads might even still be getting paid by their parent club. There is nobody currently at the club for a pay day or for an easy life.
We’re no longer a big (ish) name in this league and will no doubt be starting our next chapter in the bottom tier. To expect anything else is just madness.
Richardson isn’t helping with shite like this.
He has a point.
There have been games this season when we go behind and seem to feel sorry for ourselves and then go 2 or 3 behind pretty quickly. There’s almost a “here we go again” look about us when we go behind and all the energy we had before just vanishes.
Not sure mutty in all honesty.
I went into this season expecting relegation with a few hidings along the way.
We’ve seen some good displays, we’ve seen some shockers.
I’ll be honest, we’re exactly where I thought we would be.
I’m more concerned what happens off the field though TBH.
The problem is (and this may be why nobody has bothered to buy us) that they are instantly £5m down the second they sign the contract in order to see us through the next 2 seasons. With no guarantee of crowds this season in any great numbers and the probability of L2 football and needing to rebuild the squad again it’s a lot of money to throw away.
Other clubs will still have income from season tickets that we don’t and can sell players at their going rate as opposed to dealing in pence.
There will be plenty of clubs struggling as there was pre-covid, but from an administration point of view it literally couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Our administration has been different though egg. We didn’t run out of money and couldnt pay the players and we were paying the necessary debts on time. For whatever the real reason is Choi and Yeung planned it to happen and scarpered at the earliest opportunity. At the time we had huge assets in Robinson and Gelhardt who would have brought in millions a few week later a d all would have been rosy. Unlike all the other clubs as well we were only operating for a few months without fans before admin. This season we have been running on less than a shoestring budget selling off what’s needed to fund the cost of this season. Using academy players on very low wages and bringing in players who were unwanted elsewhere again earning buttons. All the other clubs have still been trying desperately to operate as normal. So I dont see how we can be in a worse position during this period than the rest. Our debt is still coming down and if an owner comes in and pays the asking price it should disappear. How many other clubs will be saying the same
Because every other club has an owner who can put money in when needed.
We are paying the wages albeit small, with income alone and no other means of generating money.
That is the issue we have being a club of our stature.
Clubs like Sunderland, whilst still losing money, know that they can rely on gates of 20k+ and similar to their much bigger Geordie cousins they all buy shirts in the club shop.
We struggle for gates of 10k (home fans) even in the Championship and I would say the majority of those don’t buy shirts.
Then you factor in the future. I would say most kids up that way support Sunderland or Newcastle. We have a town full of plastic scouers and mancs who in turn bring their kids up to support Liverpool or Utd. The odd one or two (such as myself) may rebel and support Wigan, but the fact our “family stand” is usually half empty is always somewhat of a concern.
Currently…..we are unable to sell season tickets and are reliant on the club shop and streams. People who don’t buy the kit however won’t suddenly start to buy the kit because we are admin. Just won’t happen.
So basically, we are in a far worse position than other clubs who have or may go into admin. Previous clubs still had matchdays to make money from to cover costs. We have nothing.
Because you also have to buy a football club?
All good points. He still isn’t buying us.
As for comfort…..what do you want? Spacious concourse and all seater. Plus a bar on site for both home and away fans.
So it’s a grade D because you have to walk 10 minites from the two train stations or 5 mins from the nearest bus stop?
Give over.
Struggling to find 9 grounds better than the dw in league 1. Go on……
