Exactly after mauling around the lower leagues Hartlepool away in the FA Cup match springs to mind I’m sure the sea froze that year to visiting Wembley in a major cup Semi final it’s just unbelievable if you just think about it
There’s no reason it can’t happen though. Everyone keeps telling me that “it won’t happen” when I say we’re going to win the thing, but they also told me that when I said one day we’d be in the Premier League.
As the new club slogan says “BELIEVE”
I love the Grand National at Blackpool. Top ride.
So he’s supposedly our main crosser of a ball but isn’t in the top 10 in the league? Not good.
He is in the top 10!
He’s no.2, just behind Jarvis who cost West Ham more than £10 million.
And he’s way ahead of the next best, Baines, Valencia and Bale – all very expensive players.
I’m presuming he meant in the table at the bottom which shows the accuracy which is why I commented that Lambert was top. Admittedly he isn’t in the bottom list either which is a good thing I suppose.
Whilst you could blame Beausejour for crosses not being accurate, how many good crosses has he put in that nobody has attacked?
Everton was a one game, one chance occasion. And we did it.In style

Stands to reason, seeing as we’re not in the top 10 in the league either?!
Neither are Southampton but Lambert is top.
For a small and relatively young club, we have made it to the above Stadiums on 6 occasions now, not counting the Mercantile Credit Classic.
A fantastic achievement for any club. With this in mind, which has been your favorite qualifying match of the visits to Wembley / Millenium Stadium listed below?
Scarborough
Brentford
Millwall
Gillingham
Man Utd
MillwallFor me, Mansfield away in the Northern Area Final in 1985 and the match at Arsenal in the Carling Cup Semi Final 2nd leg take some beating. Both were brilliant nights.
But, the stand out one for me was Wrexham away when Simon Haworth scored a couple at our end.
The noise and celebrations from the Latics fans at the Racecourse that night were incredible.P.S. I think we went on to play Millwall in the AWS Trophy Final or was it the Play Off Final against Gillingham?
I can’t fully remember now, and I can’t be bothered trawling through the history books.Wrexham away was brilliant as you say.
Millwall at home for the playoffs the year after, Derek Stillie made some great saves late on IIRC and that was quite tense for a while.
Arsenal was good simply because of the timing. I was replying to the barage of ‘unlucky’ texts that I’d got when they scored criticising the officials and luckily had just put my phone away when the ball was hacked long to Roberts as it could have ended up anywhere.
Loved Everton simply because I didn’t see it coming.Don’t like to see players get injured but I’m always happy when things potentially go right for us
How many have we sold then
Nowhere near 18k
On first glance, and especially to the media and the rest of the ‘football nation’, that looks very poor and embarrassing. But in all reality, we average what? About 15-17,000 home supporters of late?
So really, if we take around that many, its akin to, say Everton, taking 30 odd thousand. Or United taking 70 odd thousand. (not that they could)
We are what we are….and what we are is a small club from a small, Northern town. An economically chsllenged town. We ARE ‘little Wigan’, and yes, we ARE ‘takin the piss’. So what if we don’t ferry fans in on ‘Eire travel’ coaches every week. Thank god we don’t have to enter a bloody ‘ballot’ for tickets. (like Liverpool fans. And they have to buy a fancard for the privilege)
We are constantly judged by our crowds, yet the way I see it, our crowds are alright. Deary me! How we could only dream of having 20k crowds on only a few years ago. Lets not be too harsh on our own attendances. We had 17,000 home fans on against Newcastle. I remember when we had 1,700 on! (as I bet do others) It wasn’t all that long ago.
We could end up with something like 90% or more of our regular home support at Wembley. I mean mainly proper fans, not day trippers. We need to emphasize this at all times to any press or media who push for fan interviews or comments. I’m sure no other club could boast such a thing. We should be proud.
I’ve said it many a time. I couldn’t care less if I was the only fan there as long as we win.
Win at Wembley next week
win in the final
Stay in the premier league
Play at Wembley again for community shield
Play in europe
Play in the premier league for another seasonIf only!
I’ve been having the same dreams don’t worry about it. It’s what being a fan is all about. Think back 10 years or so though and the dreams were about promotion to the premier league as opposed to staying in there, beating a premier league team in the cup as opposed to possibly winning the thing and playing at Wembley in the playoffs.
With all this worry and theoretical planning, it’s nailed on that we get beat in the semi.Probably. I know I’m speculating as to how they’ll be sold but I’m far from planning anything for that exact reason.
I get what you’re saying BTW in that I could use my ST for one and then my semi ticket for another but as all my friends have a ST im not sure why I would.
It MUST be registered who has bought a ticket as it was ST/database only so there will be a way to iron out the creases but I think the priority has to go to ST holders and those who attend next week because the day trippers will come out for the final.
I know a few ppl going to the semi that don’t go very often btw
What self-respecting Latics fan would go to that venue? I will also wait until it has our ribbons on it and sits in its rightful place in the DW trophy cabinet, after clearing out all the toffee cups firstLike the cake that Villareal gave us?
I wouldn’t say that those going the semi final are the loyal ones. There’ll be a large number of day trippers there in their still creased from the packet red shirts. The loyal obes are the 15k that watch us week in week out even when the entertainment on show is woeful.
IF we make the final I would sell in the order of:
Corporate ST holders
ST holders
Non ST holders with semi final ticket
Non ST holders with no semi final ticketIf you watch us every week you’ll get one. If you’re like TipperaryLatic and made the effort to get to the semi then you’ll get one. If you don’t watch us and you couldn’t make Wembley then you run the risk of not getting one but you only have yourself to blame.
All well and good…..in theory.
But what you suggest could end up chaotic. If a ST holder claimed their 3 ticket allowance for the semi, and the club allow ST holders 2 final tickets, if we get there, then under the scheme you suggest, that ST holder would be entitled to FIVE final tickets!
The problem would be seperating the ST holders from people with semi tickets. I believe a vast majority fall into both camps. Not all, but a lot will. Semi tickets have no names on, and I’m not sure if they could monitor who has already had what. Ideal territory for touts if the demand is big.
I’m not sure there’s going to be that many ‘day trippers’ EGG. I believe the majority of what we have sold so far ARE the loyal fans, as according to what we are rumoured to have sold so far were sold to ST holders. I believe we have a ‘hardcore’ of 10-12,000 fans. I believe most will be going to Wembley.
They’re entitled to 1 ticket with their ST. The selling to those with semi final tickets is general sale.

My nephew went down and had his picture taken (closest he’ll get this year as a Utd fan).
I said I’d wait until it has blue and white ribbons on.
