So, for a lot of people all this ‘you should support your town in whatever they do’ belief is b@llocks – otherwise Liverpudlians would support Liverpool and Everton and Mancunians would support City and United.
No they wouldn’t, they would support whichever team was on their side of the City. Man Utd and Man City play the same sport and are rivals so naturally you wouldn’t support both. Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors play two different sports so there is nothing stopping you following, or at least well wishing, both.
Egg, is that your opinion or are you claiming it as fact? Quite often, geography has f’ck all to do with it.Anfield and Goodison are a dozen streets away from each other. And what about Dundee? The two grounds are across the road from each other.
Also, religion dictates which club you support in most of Scotland.
In South Wales there’s a huge football v Rugby Union rivalry, and in Belgrade, Red Star have a football team and basketball team and they hate each other.
I’ve always supported Wigan Athletic and Orrell RU. So yes, it is possible to support another Wigan team, but Wigan Ath and Orrell aren’t rivals.
Wigan Ath and Wigan RL are however, whether it be a different sport or not.
When Wigan Ath lose, I get a dozen p*ss taking messages via text or Facebook from Wigan RL supporters (one of which is an administrator of that RL site you frequent) but funnily enough, none from any of my Bolton, Liverpool, Everton, City, United, Blackburn or Preston supporting mates. Why? Because they aren’t our rivals – and generally they don;t give a toss about us.
(Incidentally, I don’t send similar messages when Wigan RL lose because I generally don’t have a f’cking clue they’ve even been playing.)
It’s the sort of thing you’d experience if you were a Blackburn fan with Burnley fans in your family, or Southampton/Portsmouth, or Wednesday/United, or Stoke City/Port Vale.
If Wigan Borough were still in existence, then maybe it would be different.
Not claiming anything as fact, just saying that Mancs, Glaswegians, Scousers etc would not be expected to support both teams but would be expected to support one of them be it either their side of the City or their side of religion etc.
If he can turn our recent form into a season long effort (ar at least longer than 8 weeks) then people will stop having a go. Think where we COULD be if we’d played with this passion and conviction all year round.
I cannot and will not ever forget the way Maurice Lindsay sat back and sh1t on us in our hour of need.Rugby league, like budgie keeping is a mickey mouse pastime for pensioners who think its still the 1950s.
Fully understandable for the Latics fans that were there back then.

Short notice, but I might go as I haven’t been to the Ricoh yet.
He’s been superb recently there’s no doubt about that. Still think it has to be Ali again for player of the year though.
Not that it matters, but sounds like football to me.
The future of this Country is well and truly f*cked.
I especially liked where he moaned about Al Habsi’s time wasting.“It is disrespectful to people who pay big money to watch the game.”
Some people have short memories. Mr Wenger, I present you with exhibit A:
Think that booking was the only thing that Dowd gave us that day.
I thought losing Maloney for Gomez would be a big loss simply because Maloney gets stuck in more than Gomez does. Gomez however proved me wrong and put in a superb shift, as everyone did.
Have wanted to go this for a few weeks but funds won’t let me. Even having to give the rugby a miss on the Sunday as well.
His refusal to properly shake his hand at the end was superb. Caldwell just kept on pushing it and winding him up. Brilliant.
He’s slowly starting to win me round again is Barry Chuckle.
Top 10 goalsThe 10 ‘greatest’ goals in the Prem era. How Beckham gets nominated but not Figueroa is beyond me. For what it’s worth, I’d go for Tony Yeboah.
Don’t get a look in at any of the best matches either. It’s the usual Utd/Liverpool nonsense. Not good enough. Martinez out.
They do seem to have missed out the 10 worst refereeing decisions…
Exactly. They’ll put ‘Liverpool 0 Man Utd 1’ in before they put ‘Wigan 3 West Ham 2’ or ‘Wigan 3 Arsenal 2’ or indeed ‘Wigan 2 Arsenal 3’ which was a corker from our first season in the league.
Currently:
Qpr 31
Wigan 31
———-
Bolton 29
Blackburn 28
Wolves 23My prediction:
Wigan 39
Bolton 38
———-
QPR 32
Blackburn 32
Wolves 24I think if we get a win at Fulham next week then we’re practically safe anyway, but I can see us getting a draw from Newcastle and Blackburn (which hopefully won’t matter) and then beating Wolves.
Egg – You need to remember what the title of the thread is, who started it and why it was started, then ask your mates why “only” 13,000 home fans showed up for their biggest home game of the season, compared to “only” 13,500 home fans for a minority sport played by drug-fuelled cave dwellers representing a handful of pit villages along a dirt track that straddles two large northern counties.34yrs a loser – It will be sub-10K, but I am confident more home fans will turn out than they did for the Wigan v Hull City FA Cup clash, or the Wigan v Notts County FA Cup clash. Possibly 6,000 will show up, which dwarfes either of those home crowds.
We only got 8000 last year against a better side when it was free. Be lucky if theres 5k on.
