Well that has just cheered me up somewhat
I maybe wrong but in Bobby’s case it’s progression onto the next level so to speak and for the players mentioned they also have progressed when will folk realise this
Even Bowton where getting crowds of 30000 plus in the fifties Standish to be truthful If you go that far back there is only what club that is increased attendances since the fifties US
I find it quite amusing how we only scrapped through against Bournemouth and Macclesfield as the saying goes you can only play what’s in front of you but going further back in Bobby’s reign wasn’t the a big outpour of grief on these boards when we were knocked out against Swindon,Notts County and Blackpool ‘We’ll never do nowt with this mon was the cry.
What Myth?.
Wigan RLFC, Every one of the townsfolk who follow the stupid sport supports the Worriers.
Wigan Ath FC.Surrounded and playing in the backyard of 4 of the biggest clubs in Britain who the good people of Wigan traditionally support. Yet despite this on entering the football league in 1978 the average crowds for this year were in the region of
Wigan Athletic 9000
Wigan RLFC 3500
So, what you are saying is that in the last 35 years, Wigan Warriors have more than trebled their average crowd, but Wigan Latics have only managed to increase theirs by 50%, despite moving up at 4 rungs of the football ladder.
You know full what he’s saying.Wigan RL’s average attendance had dropped by 75% from previous seasons due to their relegation.
So let’s spin it on its head. Has Wigan Athletic’s average attendance dropped by that amount following relegation? Oops. No.
You’re a fickle lot, no?
Keep it coming Mutty. Fish in a barrel springs to mind.
If that was the case then he should have done his research a bit better.
Firstly, Wigan were relegated in 1980, not 1978.
Post relegation, their crowds increased, and continued to rise for 9 successive seasons. Probably their success meant that the disgruntled Latics fans of the mid-80s just went back to watching rugby after the novelty value of soccer wore off.
As far as I can see, they’ve never averaged 3500. The lowest was in 1978, but it was 4505 – that’s a 33% error!
Speaking of attendances down 9,35% Mutts
Not much on the box tonight so thought I’d just have a little number crunching session. Last season Wigan had a total home attendance of 208k giving an average of 16,043, which was 1% down on the previous season. 2013 figures are total home gates 189084 giving an average of 14,545, down roughly 9.35%
Wondered why we had not had urgings from the club to break attendance recordsNot much on the box, so I worked out what % difference is between 19,359 and 14,663 is. 24.26% less. Makes 9.35% look pretty impressive!
Strange how the article never mentions that last Sunday saw the lowest league attendance at the DW for over 7 years, despite it not being on TV, and being one of the warmest September afternoons for ages.Speaking of attendances down 9,35% Mutts
