No, it’s not debatable. He WAS one of our better players on Tuesday night. That doesn’t necessarily make him Ashley Cole of course, but I am now startng to think that you will argue with anything and anybody just like Standish says ;)

    Only in your opinion Griff!!!!
You know what i get like when people tell me (or others) I’m wrong so don’t get me started!! ;)

See, we do occasionally have something in common aside from sharing the same first name. ;)

Well if you see me at a game be sure to say hello coz I haven’t the foggiest who you are – in fact at the moment I don’t have a game to ref on Saturday so I may well be heading down to the DW to hurl abuse at Bobby!! Lord help anyone who applauds or encourages them!!

    Sorry, see what you mean….

This is Chelsea’s account situation. I don’t see what all these billionaires get out squandering this sort of money, it disgusts me that it is even available to squander in a time when some families can’t even put food on the table.

I remember listening to some bloke on talksport the day after the Sheikh had bought City
He was based over in Abu Dabi (or however you spell) it & knew the bloke who fronts the organisation at City. He was asked at the time how much it had cost Chelsea/Abramovich to get where they were & was told £450mill. Their reply was “Is that all?”
As for what they get out of it – Lord knows

I personally liked the 3-5-2 prior to Christmas with Sammon & Moses starting and Rodallega & Di Santo coming on towards the end.

Here’s a first Standish – I agree with you. Although i would like to see it with Jones & Diame in the middle, Figueroa at left wing back & the back 3 of Alcaraz/caldwell/Boyce. Possibly with Moses & Crusat/Beausejour in the not quite wingers/not quite forwards rols

To be fair, I do strongly suspect that the club have been working their @r$es off to try & get new players in but have been snubbed at every turn for one reason or another – for example if I was a championship player with the ambition to play in the top flight & I had been offered the chance to come to Latics yesterday I’d have turned it down. The club made it clear that they wanted reinforcements so to think that they only made a bid for Beausejour & no-one else until about 2pm yesterday in my opinion doesn’t make sense
Again I suspect we only know about Marappia & Maynard because their clubs wanted other clubs to know that they were open to offers & pretty much what those offers from Latics had been. Similarly in the case of Johnson turning us down I think Whelan wanted other clubs who may have been interested know that a) we were listening to offers & b) that he was prepared to accept part ex & not just cash
However I don’t have evidence as such or anyone in the know its just what I strongly suspect happened going off my experience of watching football for the last 30 odd years & Latics in general
Also contrary to how it may have appeared I wasn’t picking an argument for arguments sake but assuming you had the same hunch & pointing out that just because its what you (or I) think happened doesn’t mean that its actually what happened & that someone else has come to a completely different conclusion from the same evidence. Doesn’t make either side right or wrong
Probably shouldn’t have jumped into an argument which until that point hadn’t involved me but it does tend to get my back up when someone appears to tell someone else they’re wrong coz they’ve come to a different conclusion to them off the same evidence

If you have evidence as I pointed out before then fair enough but my last post wasn’t asking you to name your source just whether you had any evidence as opposed to drawing your own conclusions (in much the same way I did)

in reply to: “after this transfer window we will be stronger” #80129
It may come out that players turned us down at the last minute, or it may not.

So do you have evidence that this was the case or do you “strongly suspect” that is what happened because of what Bobby said in that interview, the fact that some bids fell through yesterday that we are aware of &/or because somebody (regardless of who) told you?
The fact you stated you had a “strong suspicion” indicates to someone who reads it that it is just something you “suspect” as opposed to “know/have evidence” of so apologies if you do know something but maybe you should choose your words more carefully in future.

On the other hand, nothing I said indicates that I am of the belief that the club did nowt to sign players for 30 days of January yet when I quite clearly state that (“no & I never said, or even hinted, that that was what I believed”) I’m asked why I said it then – when i didn’t!!! :woohoo:
Not quite sure why you’re accusing other people of being senile ;)

Is that a veiled threat Tyldesley? Please feel free to PM if it will help, as my one line comment has clearly got your back up.

You may have been watching them for 25 years – I never had you down as a JCL (JL maybe?) – but there’s no denying that you have come onto the board this morning with the sole intention of being negative.

Prior to my response, you posted four times, and each one was au contraire to anything even remotely positive, or which went against the general malaise within this forum’s members at present.

I’d hazard a guess that I would have to trawl back some way before finding anything that differs from this trend.

No, the new singing may not have been brilliant last night, but he was one of the best of a band bunch – or so I’m lead to believe by several people who watched the game, as I admit I haven’t seen it – have you?

So, in response, no, I will not get off any sort of a horse. You dismissed one of my posts earlier as mere conjecture, and to which I responded somewhat sternly, but not with offers to PM me.

I have submitted a one line response to your post, and you have replied as above, and have felt the need to also edit one of your earlier posts to have a little sideswipe.

If we’re talking horse heights, mine is a Shetland compared to yours.

Standish, I’m not quite sure how you saw my comment about “PM”‘ing me as some sort of veiled threat coz it was nothing of the sort. It was a sarcastic comment as I would have thought was obvious being followed by the “let me know when I am or not allowed to post & what I’m allowed to say” comment (or words to that effect.
Contrary to what you may think you know about me I have no intention of coming on this board to post “negative comments”. My intent is to come on here & see what fellow Latics fans have to say. If I see something I strongly agree with I’ll say so. If I see something I disagree with I’ll say so. If I had the sole intent to post negative comments I would be starting my own threads & I could count the number of times I’ve done that this season (from memory anyway) on the fingers of one hand.

That my 4 posts before yours this morning were negative is a natural reaction to a poor January both on (results) & off (lack of signings) the pitch. At the moment I find very little to be positive about concerning Latics. There’s very little I’ve seen to be positive about since Bobby came so its not a case of hating anything positive being said more being bemused that people find something positive out of some absolute dross – someone elsewhere even stated that the transfer window was a success coz we didn’t lose McCarthy, Moses, Diame or Rodallega & I find that to be frank baffling
With regards to the new signing as I’ve already said I saw some alright stuff & I saw some awful stuff from him. I’m not writing him off but I do feel that adding him as the sole new addition to the squad will do next to nothing to halt our relegation – did I see it? In the flesh no & I think I’ve stated elsewhere I saw the extended highlights.
I’m not blaming Bobby for not being able to get players to come over the last month as quite simply they do not want to come to a club that looks certs for the drop & there’s no point adding to the squad for the sake of it – I do however apportion a large part of the blame for Latics being in the league position we are to Bobby

What has undoutedly got my back up (& I may disagree with people on here but I can’t recall ever getting wound up before) is that I’m sick to the back teeth of people (& not just myself) being ridiculed simply because they happen to have an opinion that all is not well. Often to the extent of being called “not true supporters” coz they don’t back a man who to me appears incompetent at times.
The post I dismissed as conjecture was because it was. Regardless of who you may have heard what off you are taking someone’s word for something & on its own it isn’t evidence

Anyway, some what long windedly it wasn’t any kind of threat but if I want to post something negative I will & if i want to post something positive I will. Whatever it is it shouldn’t lead to any sort of “stern” reply because people are entitled to an opinion regardless of who it agrees with

I’m off to have some kind of dave from Skem breakdown & congratulations for knowing my initials!!!

Are we talking about the challenge from the bloke with the big hair that should have been a sending off??

If so then to be fair to the ref he would expect in that position for his liner to be making them calls (my brief to assistants is anything in that area from the touchline to the edge of the area all along your half of the pitch are yours to lead with) so he wasn’t as close to play as he would have been had the challenge been on the same side at the other end of the pitch where there was no liner. His view of the challenge wouldn’t have given him a clear enough view of what the defender did to be able to make any call. So i don’t think he bottled it

His assistant however was staring straight at it & I can only assume (as the defender had his back to him) that his view was obscured too. I can’t imagine that they’ll both say to their assessor & in the match report that they saw it & didn’t even deem it worthy of a free kick.

Whether at 3-0 down sending him off would have changed the outcome of the game I’m not sure but from the extended highlights it certainly looked like Latics finished marginally the stronger of the 2 sides

You don’t actually know what I base my suspicions on do you Tyldesley? And if not, how can you possibly comment on my lack of evidence?

So do you think the club have been sitting there doing nothing for thirty days?

No and I never said, or even hinted, that that was what I believed.

in reply to: Welcome Jean #80096

No, of course I can’t. In reality, I hate the club & am desperate to see it fail. I’ve followed them for 25 years & these last 8 or 9 years of success have been horrendous for me

In future please PM me to tell me when & which posts I can respond to without offending your sensibilities
This is a forum for people to post their views about Wigan Athletic whether they be good or bad and for people to agree or disagree with them as they see fit.
On the new signing I saw some alright things from him, nothing great & one horrendous mistake which cost us a goal & I made a light hearted reference to him soon adapting to the Wigan way of defending.

Get off your high horse & learn to deal with the fact that if people think something/some player has been poor they are as entitled to say it as you are entitled to say Bobby’s doing a great job coz there’s some Wigan lads in the youth team

    in reply to: need’s a hand #80093
Dont you think its time we had an experienced old timer, ex-mananger type figure step in to throw some advice bob’s way.
It seem’s to me he’s a one man band so a different perspective from someone who’s done the round’s might be just what we need.
not him but a David Pleat type of person.
Graham Jones ? lets get it right.
    whats your thoughts ?.

If he needs someone bringing in to basically show him what to do that he isn’t good enough.
If he isn’t good enough, in my humble opinion, then he shouldn’t be manager of this football club

in reply to: Just watched the game #80092

The goals scored by Tottenham for me summed up everything that’s wrong about Latics football under Bobby:

    1) Defender completely unaware of anyone round him & switching off for the 1st
    2) Keystone cops defending for the 2nd
    3) From the moment Spurs centre half/right back picked up the ball some 15 yards in from the goal line touchline there was one half @r$ed challenge from Ben Watson between there & when Bale took a shot form 2 yards inside Latics penalty area

Every one of them completely preventable. Team’s just don’t have to work hard against Latics to score – they know they can be as patient as they like coz Latics apply no pressure to them in possession & if they’re patient calamitous defending will gift them goals

    And before I forget:
    4) Waiting till Latics are 3-0 down & the game well & truly buried before making any change whatsoever

Edit – however far be it from me to not write anything positive about the club, on the plus side it was good to see the players still plugging away even when the game was lost. A point highlighted by both the commentator & his side kick

in reply to: Welcome Jean #80091

To the club that will play you out of position !!! FFS !!!!

Are you for real?. He was bought to play as a wing-back. One of our better players last night.[/quote]

    Debatable
It certainly didn’t take him long to catch the “switch off at the back” bug from the rest of our back line

in reply to: “after this transfer window we will be stronger” #80090

The thing is Standish, that for all your “strong suspicion” you’ve no more evidence to back up your theory than someone who thinks he’s been doing beggar all on the transfer front for the last 30 days

    in reply to: Dicko #79492

Not this season – he’s gone on loan somewhere hasn’t he?

effin awful when I saw him play
