I don’t feel the same animosity towards them anymore That is reserved totally for those nasty bastards from South Yorkshire.
Let’s hope the game is a good one and all rivalry aside I am really glad both clubs survived and agree it should be a celebration of that rather than a chance to cause unnecessary trouble.
Take the kids and treat the game as normal , will be a great game!

I think you are right with us getting in the league in 1978. Before that we were plucky little non league Latics who made a name for ourselves in FA Cup ,very often supported by the Rugby club and their supporters.I remember they used to put good luck Wigan Athletic messages in the Post and Chronicle and we used to do the same when they had big Challenge Cup matches. When we got in the league their attitude changed towards us ,we became a real threat and they did not like it.Things have never been the same since and we all know the history and the derogatory comments made towards us by their various Chairmen. We could get on now but they have to accept that we are equals ,we are not plucky little non league Latics anymore.

They embraced Thatcherism and the mood of the time in a huge way and had a very aggressive marketing strategy on a par with a political campaign within local and national media.
I remember a certain rag putting front page stories about Latics fans having minor scuffles and then comparing it to the Rugby whose holier than thou never ever caused any bother??
A match against Carlisle in the FA cup carried a story about the police operation and the threat of a major riot/fight , not good PR to attract supporters.
Sinister stuff looking back but look at our gates before Whelan came in and all this had a massive impact in my view.
The scars of this are still in evidence even today and i still hear pundits spout the rugby town bollocks on a regular basis, even heard it the other week on a sports news programme, TV screen almost smashed when i heard it.
Forgive obviously, the administration has changed , but never EVER forget !!!!!!!!!

In my opinion the animosity between the clubs was caused by aggressive media spin on their part when we threatened their perceived patch and territory soon after football league entry in 1978.
The board and manager openly and aggressively shouted their cause and did a brilliant job at Getting the local and national media into their pockets.
This has never been forgotten by the older supporters and rightfully never will be.
Change the seats if they are being paid for but forget it if they are not.
No use wasting money and stoking up Ill feeling as the argument about whether Wigan is football or rugby was firmly killed off in 2005 when we made the premier league.
Up the tics and our Football town !!!

Cue loads of comments from the likes Barstardly FC and Noblot fans along lines of “what is the point as they never get sat on ?”.
On a more serious note and especially given our recent history i really cannot see the point of wasting money replacing seating that certainly doesn’t warrant it at the moment in my view pink seats or not.
Not sure of the cost of this but surely the money would be better spent on the now smaller training ground to provide good facilities to keep our successful youth set up going.
Surely this is a solid point especially after watching Lang the other night give a brilliant man of the match performance and whom cost us nothing and is surely worth a couple of million quid now especially in todays inflated market.
Watch the pennies Talal and spend them to improve and enrich the wonderful youth set up first and foremost.

Great performance and Callum Lang man of the match.
Sucker punch at the end that we didn’t deserve but signs are very good we will do well this year.

Positive move , no doubt Barstedley FC will lodge a complaint and moan how we should clean their shit tip of a stadium also and pay for the works!
Karma is a bitch and i am like others waiting for Barstedley to get theirs when it arrives and it will.

Was surprised to see Sheffield Wednesday fixtures both planned for a tuesday night.
Not sure of reasons for that especially as there has been no history of crowd trouble between the two clubs.
                            Strange one

the chairman is a hero and will surely get a huge roar at his first home game with a crowd in.
Won’t be a dry eye in the house that’s for sure !

Sunderland paying for years of neglect and multiple sackings as well as fair weather sulky fans who piled out of the doors into their giant cot on the carpark at half time nearly every home game in their final dismal premier league days.
I am sure they will come again once the crowds return to the ground and i bear them no ill will despite them being a relegation rival for a good few years.
As for those other bar steads from south Yorkshire ( i cannot even say their name , absolutely despise them) a pint was raised when i saw the result at the weekend and i am sure we will get our revenge out on the pitch sooner than we or they think.
A very easy team talk for sure
They kicked us very very hard when we were on the floor, down and out and that will never be forgotten.

An incredible day and in fact so surreal and unique that I actually stopped boozing before kick off to take in the day and remember it forever.
Walking up Wembley way before kick off I ran into two very old pals from my distant childhood and we were then actually snagged by BBC World service and asked our opinions for the waiting world.
It doesn’t get any more surreal than that and proof how far Latics had progressed and how big the FA cup final is despite the crap spouted by the corporate football fraternity.
I said very calmly that we would win the game and I felt elation at the end but always felt we would win the cup.
It all felt so right and especially so sharing it with my son who I had taken to games since he was four at Springfield park in the very bleak days of the early 90s.
                                  Never to be forgotten
