But it’s a 100% Cook decision to leave him on the bench when fit, IEC don’t pick the match day starting 11.

I’m pretty sure Cook will have some say in who he wants come Feb. He’s made it quite Grigg ain’t one of them based on his recent team selections.

Disagree entirely as Cook has already said himself.

Will Grigg is a striker who feeds off balls into the box and being in the right place at the right time. Basically, if you give him the ball in the 6 yard box he will score.

The team we have out at the moment minus all of our creative players in Powell, Jacobs (granted on the way back now) and Massey means that we can’t play to that system so playing Grigg is completely and utterly pointless because he isn’t a player who can try to bully the defender and fight for every ball like Vaughan or Garner can. It would be like trying to fry an egg using a plastic bowl instead of a frying pan.

Unfortunately for Grigg we sign Pilkington and Jacobs comes back and he gets injured AGAIN. I fully expect him to be here come Friday and be a big part of our season once the right players are back and he is back to fitness.

Sorry egg lad can’t agree with you on this your striker gets you the wins with his goals Will is our best striker so you should adapt to his strengths not play completely different coz his mates are injured. This has been Cookies downfall. You play your best players when fit surely.

I agree you pick your best XI but you pick your best XI based on the tactics and style of play you are looking to play.

As we have no wingers and are playing more direct, Grigg isn’t our best striker for that role.

I’d like to see him play iff of Vaughan or Garner though as I’ve said before.

This is s problem with the modern game its too technical and not as easily adaptable. There are too many specialized positions and roles today. As much as I despise Man Ure you have to big up Solksjaer for taking them back to how they did things pre Van Gaal and Moanrinho.

You’re probably right. Days gone by you had an XI you picked it and it played the same way every week. Nowadays your side can change depending on who you play, where you play and whether you’re expected to win or not. Very few managers keep the same side week after week especially in the top leagues.

We play to Vaughan and Garner by hitting them with the longer ball and they hold it then lay it to …….? why can that not be Grigg ?.

We have a superb crosser of the ball in Naismith so why can’t we get it into the box nod it down to ……… ? why can that not be Grigg.

If your gonna give it Grigg on the half way line covered by 2 center halfs then ask him to run have the length of the field and round the keeper every week then I will agree with you, sell him yesterday

For me he’s the most important part of the jigsaw, he’s goal scoring is proven when the balls given to him in the right places. Cook prefers the drop back method. I seem to remember Robinson’s first game and I was like , wow ! we’ve got a diamond there.

Then Cook asked him to first and foremost defend and drop deeper simply because, when he went Cook offered no cover in behind him leaving Robinson totally exposed him making him look a donkey trying to get back like billy wizz.

Same goes for Gibson. First game spraying the ball round 20-30 yard balls to feet I thought again wow !. that was till Cook asked him drop deeper and hold hands with the defense and play skilly your in. He should be sat in the circle and forward passing short balls till it opens then bang, gone.

Point been, would a another manager use those players in the roles there been asked to do right now ?. Someone hit on Utd and Mourinho compared to Solskjaer. I’d hope to think that if some of our players were given a bit more freedom and play to their strengths we’d look a far better attacking prospect than we are right now.

To me Cook prefers a certain type of older experienced player defending first been the priority but you also need that youth to offer that bit of pace and don’t give a fook style and attitude. Should we sell Grigg ? it’s a simple no for me. Should we keep and play him ? yes and play to the lads strengths not hump it to him on the half way line.

I’ll like bet if Grigg goes , the replacement (if we do) will be over 30 , 6ft, holds it up well and been around the block more than once with an average 5 goals per season but knows how to defend

I agree …great post.News now say Sunderland announcement imminent. What a balls up…..got fit and still Cook sat him on bench. I keep forgetting, he has ti wait for Massey/Powell to be fit 1st ,3 way tag team. Can you blame him for pissing off ?….Absolutely not !! I’m waiting for news of his replacement (If any ) with bated breath. Another member of the 30 plus brigade……my dosh is on Fortune to return to carry on with his 6 goals in 80 games record or possibly Dean Windass to link up with his son.!!…..Unless there’s a flurry in the next 72hrs it will go down as another Wigan transfer pile of horse shit…..Grigg going is one of the worst in recent times…..hope the deal falls through.

Were linked with Andy King a midfielder, a player who hasn’t played 1 Prem game all season. So how long will it take before he becomes match fit ? 6-8-10 games ?? or push him early doors and he becomes injured like Pilkington or even worse, the new Bruce the invisible man impersonator

Kings wages surely a huge barrier, even on loan. Come midnight Thurs all will be revealed .We can analyse Griggs offloading. Will it be good business? …Who if anyone will step into his boots ?…..Worst case we end up with no replacement and survival becomes even more perilous. Rather Cook have gone and new manager used Griggs strengths…..

If we got Messi he’d be asked not to cross the half way line.
I was always told the best form of defence is attack not the other way round.
To be honest as long as the manager plays players in the way he does fookin Hazard and Willian wouldn’t make a sod of difference at Latics.

Somebody said earlier in the thread that Grigg hadn’t been playing because we had no wingers fit (Jacobs, Massey).
Well, we’ve had a better winger than those two sat on the bloody bench all season.
Is’s a fucking disgrace that a player like McManaman has hardly had a sniff, and Grigg has been frozen out because a prop like Massey has been injured.
Surely McManaman would have fed Grigg as good as, if not better than Massey could even dream of doing.
If Grigg goes it will be a travesty and I’ll be pissed off, bloody idiots even if they are thinking about it.
I would rather Cook go than Grigg.
Grigg scores goals, Cook has done his level best to stop us scoring goals with his baffling signings, tactics and team selections.

Bob on there horc, iam not having it that we don’t have any players in our squad who isn’t capable of supplying Grigg with a decent ball in the box, Grigg our proven goal scorer sat on his arse on the bench watching hoof ball. If he goes it will be a travesty. I agree, play to your strengths, and his strengths and maybe we will get out of this mess.
