Year on year the academy is producing players who should have been given a chance. Callum Lang could have been at least on bench this year and if this years u18s (who must be unbeaten in a year) don’t get a chance i think it’s time to close the academy down. We play Liverpool in the youth cup in a few weeks and many expect us to win. Joe Gelhardt is seen as one of the brightest talents in the country and plays for England but will he be given a sniff of minutes in the first team? Sick of update after update of the development and u18s smashing everyone yet there is zero interaction with the first team at any level despite the shite we are being served up most weeks.
My cousins lad was a team mate in the academy for a few seasons until he went to another club. My cousin reckons Gelhardt can more than hold his own in the first team and is the strongest young player he has ever seen. “Something special” he says, like Rooney at that age.
