How Cockney Latics’ readers react to every bit of news
1 February 2019 at 8:58 pm #175892Will grigg …….. I am kinda sorry to see him go. He helped to carry on filling my bag of great WAFC memories. When he was on fire, he was an inferno. He was a blinkin’ good division 1 striker, but for what ever reason, in the Championship he was never quite the roaring fire we were used to. I wanted him to blitz their defence every time he came on, and I was always disappointed when he didn’t start, and then when he did come on I always felt it was a bit of an anti climax.
But in his time, he was great …….. especially the Citeh goal.
Thanks Will, and have a great time with Max.
1 February 2019 at 9:25 pm #175893Sorry Griggs gone yes.
4 million we have had Sunderlands pants off we rarely sell any player on the cheap, sure he will help them and ultimately promotion but realistically Grigg is a league 1 player.1 February 2019 at 10:26 pm #175899Nobody was happy when wildchutt left but 7 million was a good deal.
Nobody happy now Griggs sold but I would of taken 4 million for a player suited to league 1.Of course, the big difference with Wildschut was he was our only match winner. Others were either not upto it or well out of form. That felt like we were preparing for League 1.
On the other hand, Grigg hasn’t played a big part this season, be it through injury, or Cook not fancying him. Additions like Pilkington, Clarke and Baningime, plus the returning Powell, Jacobs & Massey, offer us much stronger midfield and attacking options. At the back Fox and Olsson will help out the current incumbents, plus a returning Robinson.
We’ve had a strong window from a footballing and financial perspective.
1 February 2019 at 11:03 pm #175901Interesting piece on Newsnow at the moment. An interview with Grigg who admits he did everything he could to make the move happen.
So should the club have turned 4 million down and end up having a shithousing player disrupting the club till summer?

Link?
1 February 2019 at 11:26 pm #175904He would have given his all for us and I doubt he’d cause trouble.
But there comes a point when the club needs to look at the player as an asset when their contract is winding down. The manager also made it clear Grigg wasn’t first, or second, choice. And the player himself will eye up one last big move.
This transfer and fee suited all parties.

I don’t know how to put a link on. Just go on our News now page and look at the interview with the Sunderland Echo.
1 February 2019 at 11:38 pm #1759071 February 2019 at 11:41 pm #175909This is how the world works.
Is he supposed to say now “well, actually I didn’t really want to go to Sunderland but Wigan told me that the bid was too great, and I wasn’t really going to get game time. Besides which I’m finding those Championship defenders rather hard to get past. But I’ll pull on a Sunderland shirt for the photos and try to look happy till I move somewhere else”?It’s all a PR game. Don’t stress over it.
1 February 2019 at 11:54 pm #175910Grigg and Power are league 1 players and both had chances to prove otherwise so take the cash and move on.

I understand that. But it’s one thing saying it’s nice to be here and something else to say he did everything he could to get away from where he’s just been. At best it’s disrespectful to a club that made him famous.
2 February 2019 at 12:40 am #175913I don’t know personally what made him come out with a remark like that but I’d guess at been left on the bench as our 3rd choice forward behind 2 forwards that couldn’t hit the West Stand with a beach ball.
Or he then took a dislike to Cook for coming out with Powell Massey Jacobs are injured so you don’t play crap I’m not sure but I bet that also didn’t help.
I know if it were me I would have be pished as well with a remark like that and then dumped on the bench.
I wish him well that’s just angry man spur of the moment talk. For me the song and City goal were enough to stick him in my Latics vault of good memories.
Good luck Will, go and prove your doubters wrong2 February 2019 at 12:49 am #175916I don’t know personally what made him come out with a remark like that but I’d guess at been left on the bench as our 3rd choice forward behind 2 forwards that couldn’t hit the West Stand with a beach ball.Depending which way the winds blowing that could be pretty tough
