About right for our so-called paper. The other week they had a report of an armed raid on a bookies in Leigh together with a photo of the Bottle and Basket on Park Road. :?

Well said that man. The eye-watering debts of teams like Liverpool and United just can’t go on. Who in their right mind would even consider getting involved in buying clubs if they had to fork out £300 – 800 million just to pay the banks off. In Dave Whelan’s book he says that Latics debt will never go above (if my memory serves me right) £30 million because “that is the amount I can afford to write off out of my own pocket”. Seems a sensible policy to me living within your means.

Agree about agents as well. If you are in show business YOU employ the agent to get work for you and YOU pay him/her. It should be the same in football.

A bit in last nights WEP about last season’s defensive record – the most goals conceded in the Premier League without being relegated (76? can’t remember and I’ve passed it on). martinez’s response was that he couldn’t care if we shipped 100 as long as we imporve as a team. That’s encouraging!

So Whelan out eh? That’s OK then. There must be a queue of Arab/Chinese/Russian billionaires just waiting to get their hands on Latics! I think not.

Didn’t Whelan say he’d never sack Martinez? …..but then he also said he’d never employ a foreign manager :?

Thought the only one worth his seed today was Stam. When he came on he wanted the ball and tried his best to make things happen. He put 2 or 3 good balls into the box in his firs 5 or 10 minutes on the pitch.

Apparently (according to Talk Sport anyway) we’re looking at this man

Good to see we’ve got so much support from other fans. Usual lazy journo. We’ll just have to prove him wrong and get up the journo’s noses for another season. Bring it on!!!!

They keep saying its FIFA who have fixed the dates. If so, is there no one at FIFA capable of looking at the various country’s fixtures and realizing it’s not a good idea to have friendlies a few days before the season starts?

Good to see a decent turnout as well. Queued for an hour with two of my grandkids before we got to Kirky and Caldwell. Roberto hadn’t arrived by then (was he doing some “business”?) Just wish they had turned the air con on as everyone was sweating buckets.

Is he any relation to Jaap?

To go back to the original thread, the problem with verbal contracts is that they’re not worth the paper they’re written on :?
