You know I was actually shocked when I read Appley’s comment. I surprised myself because I come on here reading so much shit and squealing about this team we support.
But I genuinely thought Figs signing a new contract was excellent news and all Latics fans would agree with that.
I stand in the East and listen to a “panel” behind me generally picking on one player per match even if we are winning.
I really do think that you people must have terrible lives if you can only see the negatives in everything. You really need to see somebody… preferably on a Saturday at 3pm.
I preferred the Champions. My special powers would have got me into Sharon’s knickers.
I realise I don’t get a mention coz I tend to dip in and out here, but most of the time I just get brassed off with the negativity
I think they close their eyes and stick a pin in the team sheet coz they obviously know nowt about football or the Latics.
I’m not being funny here, but how do the doom and gloomers expect to be taken seriously when they are sitting at home in front of their computers every time the opposition scores a goal?
Football is all about surprises and Notts County battled bloody well yesterday and deserved to go 2-0 up. They gave us a bloody nose and we fought back and are still in the cup. That’s entertainment, excitement. It was great to be there and see our second half showing.
My view is great comeback boys, another match to see a week on Tuesday (wall to wall footie over the next month) with plenty of drama and well done Notts County for raising your game.
But no I’m obviously wrong. When we were losing 3-0 to Port Vale in our first season in the Football League and we came back to win 5-3 I should have stopped dancing and been thinking “What a crap defence we’ve got.”
The whole team underestimated Notts yesterday – that’s part of the FA Cup. To lay the blame on one player is a bit shitty.
Titus Bramble makes the odd mistake but look at how many times he has cleared the ball off the line, made last ditch challenges and clearing headers. He’ll never play for England but he has been solid 95 percent of the time at Latics.
If he was the perfect defender he wouldn’t be playing for us.
For Christ’s sake!
Our kid got a bit bored with the Prem so we went to Raith and Stranraer for a change last season.
Brilliant rough-looking pub, warm welcome, jam pudding and custard, free soup after the game and then a night out in Edinburgh.
Game wasn’t bad either. Probably going to do Arbroath in March or April after a recommendation from an Aberdeen fan in the bar near our hotel.
Made a nice change and took me back to the old days a bit.
What are the odds on Jason scoring tomorrow neet?
We agree on something. Nice one
It was seen at the time as an outrageous offer by the press. Owen was being polite and letting the little club down lightly. He never stated he wanted to come to Wigan.
In the same way he would never have gone to Hull, before Man U signed him.
Doom-monger = boo boy.
He phoned Whelan to thank him for making an offer. He was letting us down lightly and making himself look like a nice boy. He never said he was coming here! You’re rewriting history. Seriously check it out.
It’s my opinion that he isn’t right for the club. Oh hang on, I forgot, it’s only the doom-mongers who are allowed to have an opinion….
Not missing the point.
Making a point that destroys the original point.
Whelan’s comments were correct in the context. Wigan Athletic cannot afford to gamble on an older, injury-prone player on astronomical wages. He was a miserable failure at Newcastle. Ask the Geordies what they think of him.
They have to try to unearth new talent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to give players a little time.
Michael Owen was not a good solution for Wigan Athletic, on any level.
Who told you he was going to join us before he signed for Newcastle? I think we made an offer and he turned us down.
I’ll whisper this – Michael Owen wouldn’t have come to Wigan
Well said Griff
The bad thing about a team that has had a bit of success is that some folk expect it to go on and on and on. In their eyes we should be running away with the Prem, after Whelan bankrolls the signing of Ronaldo and Kaka.
I often feel like I’m in Monty Python’s Four Yorkshiremen sketch “you were lucky we used to play in the Northern Premier League with a sheep’s head, watched by blind farmers.”
They don’t see things in perspective, we are little Wigan Athletic. And, personally, I am proud of the fact.
If your posts were a bit shorter and to the point (rather than changing sides halfway through) you’d get a bit more support.
Get off the fence, Support the blues
Fair point.
But my point is that you weren’t saying that when we beat Chelsea 3-1. And you, hopefully, won’t be saying it after Saturday and at the end of the season.
It’s a stinking result but give them a chance.
