Ok, I’ll accept your opinion, and I won’t ridicule or question it. I’ll just say that I’m not necessarily saying that we play ‘long ball’. I am merely suggesting that we don’t play a set-style and just go out and ‘mix it’, doing what has to be done, match by match. I think we are trying to be TOO deliberate at the moment.

Well, what do you mean by mix-it?

        Long ball merchants get nowhere.

Allardyce’s Bolton got into the UEFA Cup that time. Otherwise, the top eight is usually populated by teams that play football, and the bottom half littered with those that scrap for points.

I’ll accept defeats whilst playing passing football whilst we’re in a transitional period (I stress that this is a transitional period), rather than hoofing it about like mindless morons forever.

Is a craphole full of benefit scrounging chavs.

Just my observation after a visit to the town centre last thursday afternoon.

            Eh?

Kirkland makes the odd mistake, just like every goalkeeper does, but he’s one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

Let’s not just criticise everybody now because things aren’t going so well. Have a breather, think about it, and you’ll come to your senses.

Martinez really makes you mad, just heard his interview, a mountain to climb being 1-0 down, his he taking the yellow water, and the team his drained after monday, give me a minute, get it sorted martinez and bring back some heart into the team,

Heart in the team? I’ll take this to mean scheissekickers, but correct me if I’m wrong.

It strikes me that the average Latics fan wants to see players chasing the opposition all over the pitch and putting the boot in wherever they can, something which supports the façade that the players are ‘committed’ or giving their ‘all’ for the team. In reality, it sacrifices playing football for a pursuit that would tarnish us as long ball merchants.

Re: The Gómez and Scotland substitutions – it’s not necessarily the ability of the players that will change things, but how they play and the change in system that they impose which the manager must consider.

Gómez provides creativity through the middle, and I admit, it’s not ideal that he’s the best we have at doing that (I said as soon as we signed him that he’s not that good) but he is, so if Bobby feels that’s what is needed, options are scrace and so Gómez gets a game.

Scotland provides bulk up front – similar to Gómez, it’s not perfect (he’s not that good) but again he’s the best at providing that given our limited options so if Bobby wants to bring some of that style of play into the game, then Scotland is the obvious choice.

I think both are decent squad players, but neither are good enough to warrant starting for us – it’s 50/50 for me as to whether they’ll be here next season.

                    1. What is his view on Jimmy Mc’s decision to play for Ireland over Scotland and would he have considered playing for England (if he was good enough, which he undoubtedly was)?

                    2. Just between you and me, how old is Hendry Thomas really?

                    3. Vladimir Stojkovic. Explain.

                    4. What is the current situation with Chris Kirkland and the England number one jersey?

                    5. Did we get Moses for a cut-price given Palace’s financial struggles and how much a bargain does he think this represents?

This is why Spain are stocking up on the wage whores like they are going out of fashion.

Foriegners in Spain pay 27% tax (or something around that figure) for the first five years that they reside there.

Teale is currently playing a big role in Nigel Clough’s Derby side, so he can’t be that bad. You tell me who we have that is actually better?

Go on, say N’Zogbia. Yes, but we paid 6 friggin million for him, and he looks noithing like worth it. And he’s on the wrong side. Who else? De Ridder? he reminds me of Beckham he does…………..

I mean, the way he touches his Alice band, NOT the way he plays.

Roberts would have ripped this defence to pieces, with sheer force alone.

We’ll agree to disagree. But lets judge it on the end of the season. That team in the first season finished 10th. Where will this team finish?

N’Zogbia has looked alright for me. His drive and pass set up Koumas against Villa, and he doesn’t have to be like-for-like so him being on the wrong side is redundant. I’d rather have de Ridder in the side than Teale, despite his level of ineptitude. Teale was half-decent in the Championship but looked completely out of his depth in the Premiership. Oh, and Scott Sinclair is twice the player of Gary Teale, and he is like-for-like.

Roberts would have ripped this defence to peices through force alone? Heskey and Agbonlahor probably make-up the strongest and quickest strikeforce in the Premiership and they barely got a sniff. Roberts has played against Man City, Sunderland and West Ham so far this season and has failed to score – or look even remotely threatening according to a Blackburn supporting friend of mine. Seven goals in twenty-six games last season suggest that he’s not showing the clincial, talismanic form of our Championship promotion season.

We’ll agree to disagree, because it’s a subjective arguement. And I don’t think we’ll finish 10th, but because of the way we play not because of the players that we have.

                          Ha Ha!!!

You believe what you want to believe!!!.

Deary me, what a bunch we have on here. It’s amazing. I can not believe that anybody can say that we have a better squad now, than in our first season.

No wonder other people on certain sites laugh their balls off at this board, and the idiots on it. Christ, I know Teale was hit and miss, but in that team, he’d have ripped Figueroa to pieces. So you think that he’s a good left back do you? Jesus tonight. Well out of his depth. EDMAN is by far, a better defender. And a better player. Barry Knowles was Roberto Carlos, compared to Figueroa.

Midfield? Do we have one? Thought we’d actually SOLD it? Yes, Kavanagh, Bullard, and McCulloch would have bossed it. Rather than the mess we have now. Two foreigners who we are taking a big chance on. They made Phil Neville look like Bryan Robson, on Sunday.

                          It’s a mess. Admit it.

Aren’t you the one that was berating us for signing Championship level players? And now you’re saying Kavanagh, Bullard and McCulloch would be a better Premiership midfield? Slight contradicition; that WAS a Championship side that we played with in the first season (and largely the same one that scraped 17th in the second). One thing that I will give you, we were alot more organised with that midfield, but again, that was down to the management and not the players.

Teale was awful, you bafoon. Once in a while he’d hit a scorcher or complete a cross, but the fact that he’s since been playing at a sub-standard Derby who felt the need to loan him out to Barnsley and Plymouth says alot. Let’s not have the ‘cult-status’ that these players acquired hinder our judgement of them.

Figueroa is very solid if unspectacular, Edman likewise. Even if you think that Edman is far better, that doesn’t detract from my arguement that we have a strong squad, does it? It just re-affirms that we now have two very good left-backs whereas in 05/06 we had a still learning Leighton Baines and who else? Was it the still crocked Steve McMillan? Oh, and Joey Waterhouse and on-loan Reto Ziegler, how could I forget those stalwarts.

Midfield, do we have one? Yes. We do.

Diamé, Thomas, Gómez, Koumas, Cho, N’Zogbia and Sinclair are the main components, some of them, although unproven as you rightly say, have looked like class-acts since joining us. Is the way we’re playing them at the minute which has made Phil Neville look like Bryan Robson working? No, it’s not. But then again, that isn’t a slant against their ability, but at the system that they’re employed in.

Our squad is considerably better than from the first season up.

We now have a number of internationals and some genuine quality. We’ve lost Cattermole and Valencia – even if we haven’t replaced them properly, we’ve still got a good number of players left at the club which could get in the majority of Premier League sides.

                            N’Zogbia
                            Scharner
                            Bramble
                            Kirkland
                            Rodallega
                            Figueroa

All exceptional players. Anybody that says Mahon, Bullard et al are better than those men is talking out of their arse. Diamé, Gómez and Thomas also provide alot of quality, and if things go as well for them as Bobby obiously thinks/hopes, then we’ll end up selling them for a massive profit in a year or two and the same “Whelan out!” crap will get bandied about again.

Our squad is really getting an unfair press by some of you lot. It’s a bit small, but it certainly doesn’t lack quality. The only real problem that I can see is that we only have messrs Scotland and King as back-up to Rodallega, but otherwise, we have quality all over the pitch. (It’s probably worth noting that I think the only reason we didn’t bring in another striker is because we can’t shift King, not because of Whelan shying away from investing).

If we are bottom at Christmas, it will be because of a lack of effectiveness from our style of play/tactics not because of a lack of ability. On paper, we have a better squad than Burnley, Hull, Bolton, Portsmouth, Wolves and Birmingham in my opinion.
