Can’t say there where many nerves yesterday. Felt more like a friendly compared to the shredded nerves after the Oxford game. I’m sure both clubs want to win the title, but you can clearly see there’s no longer an edge to the games.

They where there all yesterday and left late on. I was told last night, by someone friendly with some board members, the deal was agreed

What “agreed” means is anyone’s guess. But being out and about in public makes it seem more tangible than just reading about things in the press.

12,000 is the realistic, sustainable, home support we could generate outside the Premier League. But it won’t happen overnight.

Yesterday 12,000 offered far more in terms of atmosphere than you’d expect. If we where regularly generating those sort of crowds we’d no longer look upon the stadium as an albatross around our necks. Rather an opportunity to generate greater revenue and initiatives to attract new fans.

I do in part agree with some of the above points regarding hospitality. It’s a great opportunity to generate revenue as filling those suits is not so much about selling to fans, but businesses. By all accounts the facilities are due a major refurbishment…..although it’s not clear if this is directly linked to the takeover. It’s said the current set-up isn’t ideal to maximise usage and revenue.

Priority was promotion at the earliest opportunity. When we finished second to Sunderland to get to the Premier League it was always obvious we had the greater potential to push on again. Likewise this time around with a youthful team. Focus should be fully on doing well in the Championship. No one could care less about the title Caldwell won as we threw it all away the following season.

Oh, and the Blackburn players where out in Manchester last night. Not that it’ll have any great effect on their next fixture.

He met the prospective owners when he flew out to Spain with Sharpe earlier in the year. But nobody picked up on that.

First was the best…..but you always felt promotion was inevitable with the investment. Arguably this was the most important for the next spell of the club.

I just don’t get their obsession with Latics. Surely we both just want promotion. Also pretty bad taste the way they’ve took the **** out of Shrewsbury on Twitter. The worst traits of a big club mentality without the fan base or financial support to back it up.

                    10-1 is the best odds.

Ipswich is a club in turmoil.

Every opposition team should be respected.

But equally, you pay the big bucks to give yourself the competitive advantage. For that reason I expect Blackburn to win all their remaining games, and respect Mowbray for saying he should take them up automatically. You need that killer instinct and belief you are better than the opposition.

                        Why talk about luck?

We have the best squad in the division. The only reason we wouldn’t go up is if management didn’t get the best out of the resources given to them. Too many poor draws have been brushed off as decent results. Given the points haul of our rivals, it’s clear anything other than 3pts is a bad day at the office.

In the league Cook hasn’t shown evidence he can get his team to perform to their full potential for these “huge games”. The story of the season is a failure to beat direct rivals in what would be considered 50/50 matches…..home or away. I don’t put that down to the quality of the opposition as the play-off places have been fluid. The only common factor is when we come up against a team in the play-off mix, the latest being Scunthorpe, we struggle. It can only be a psychological issue, a fear factor. Post Christmas our best win was undoubtedly Plymouth away. But even then we were on the back foot, never threatening to impose our self.

In the run-in every game is “huge”, so you worry how we’ll approach these fixtures. One thing I’ve stopped expecting is Blackburn and Shrewsbury to drop points……whenever the pressure has been ratcheted up, they’ve delivered. It wouldn’t surprise me if both achieve 100pts+.

At this level you can’t beat pace and power. Scunthorpe caused us huge problems, as did Blackburn the week before. Bradford and Peterborough have also looked excellent going forward.

We have to play with two out and out wingers. It’s also increasingly clear we need two up top, either a traditional pairing like Grigg and Vaughan, or someone sitting behind the lead striker like Powell or Walker. It’s too easy for the opposition to smother out attacks and gain a foothold in the game. Not since well before Christmas have I seen us totally dominate a team at home.

                              Sell Morsy and Powell? Really?
                              Give your head a wobble.

In retrospect, not selling Powell in January has proven a critical strategic mistake. Even putting the money aside, his performances these past months have been well below par. This is the time of season when the big players step up and win you games. Wildschut did it a few seasons back, Dack is doing it now. Meanwhile I can’t remember the last time Powell created a goal, let alone scored.

With others out of form too, sticking with a similar starting eleven, is making us look predictable and out of ideas. Vaughan, and to a lesser extent Walker, have had a major impact in their last two games. Yet both aren’t starting as we’re trying to accommodate an out of form Powell and Jacobs.

At the end of the season it’s top two or bust. Many of these players will be off without new investment. As it stands our form won’t be good enough for a top two spot. So there’s no point saying any player is untouchable……results speak for themselves.

A continuation of our home form since Christmas.

Only now we’re conceding an average of two goals per game.

Can’t really say it’s in our hands when form has dropped off a cliff. Even against out of form teams, if they turn it on, we struggle. Same again on Wednesday, Bradford struggling, but if they put in an above par performance I can’t see us getting anything from the game.

Unless there’s a notable change in our approach to games, starting the likes of Vaughan and Walker, it’s going to be the play-offs.
