Gelhardt lost the ball in a dangerous position trying to break away. But he did more in his 15-20 minutes than Massey or Jacobs. Broke through once with little support and played an inch perfect pass for Lowe that would’ve put him in on goal.

Williams had a mediocre game. Though still better than anonymous Morsy. That said Williams should be starting as he’s shown glimpses. Overall it was a turgid performance reminiscent of the very worst of the Joyce era.

Moore is very quick but all we do is play aimless longball’s. He didn’t get much success yesterday. But on the occasions he does win a flick-on, as mentioned, there’s no one running on.

Last 20 minutes would’ve been ideal to stick Moore and Garner up top together. But yet again If was the same like for like substitutions. Gelhardt should also have been on much earlier. Massey completely off his game and Jacobs marked out of the game.

So many problems all over the field. We’re a team in disarray and look relegation certainties under current management. No more excuses.

Latics now clear relegation favourites. And let’s be honest, they aren’t wrong.

I haven’t seen a worse team this season. If we don’t change manager I don’t see any scenario where we stay up.

No further explanation or justification necessary.

We’ve been over the same points so many times. Cook held on by the skin of his teeth. There where signs of improvement as we wrapped up the season. This summer he’s been backed handsomely in the transfer market.

Recent performances, even more than the results, tell me he has lost the players. In his own words today was the worst performance he’s seen. Time is up.

The racists and xenophobes have become emboldened since 23/6/16. Once upon a time they skulked in the shadows, ate gammon and rustled a copy of the daily mail whilst hurrumphing at the state of lefty Britain. Nowadays they see their agenda as the popular one, backed by 52% of the population.

Such abuse has happened, on & off the terraces, since well before the dawn of social media. The newspapers making it a story this past week doesn’t justify ignoring it for the previous decade plus. There certainly is a problem with mainstream racism in politics. Hence one party being investigated by the EHRC.

Typical away performance. Plenty ball, plenty chances, concede a soft goal

Promising 20 minutes. Nothing from the players or management to suggest we could turn it around in the remaining 70 minutes. Boro would’ve been done by three or four tonight by a decent team. Long time since I’ve seen a Championship outfit look so rocky.

Cook on very shaky ground. QPR at weekend another ground we get little at. But needs must now. After a £10m summer spend expectations higher.

To punch above our weight we need to target players who, for one reason or another, have a mark against them. Powell’s injuries and off field issues are why he was playing for us. If we’d been smarter we could have cashed in to the tune of £5m-£10m. So it was a risk worth taking.

I struggle to put into words how little respect I have for anyone who walks away from this club because we plan to give some of our youngsters an opportunity. Let alone a month before the season starts with so many deals still in the offing. I don’t know anyone who would even entertain such an idea.

There are only a handful of clubs doing plenty of business. Most are in similar positions to us. Lost a few key players, waiting for the market to kick into gear. We certainly need a left-back and striker. But beyond that I’d sooner trust a handful of youngsters who are ready to step up. We’ve done well this summer to move on squad fillers. No need to panic and buy for the sake of it.

Because out of all the rumours Hutton, lad from Everton, Gallagher whoever I would consider this one to be the most likely to come to fruition.
You think I’m het up ? Wrong pmsl. I will tell you what gets me “het up” though. The only person who ever speaks out on behalf of our club is the manager.
Those Royles are stealing a living

Darren Royle is literally running the club on a day-to-day basis alongside Jackson. Everything from transfer business to dragging our commercial business into the modern world. The stadium and facilities are being renovated. The Soccerdome and surrounding land has been purchased for a Category 2 Academy. The kind of stuff that should’ve been done when Whelan/Sharpe were in charge and in receipt of Premier League money.

But at least Sharpe was on Twitter and acted like a fan. That’s what really matters for an owner/Chairman.

So to sum up. Folk read Alan Nixon’s Twitter account and take every word he says as gospel. Despite his dreadful track record. Well, unless the player is literally at the training ground concluding a deal. Before he jumps in with a ‘Breaking News’ scoop.

Then we have another set of fans. Those who pluck names out of thin air, give us chapter and verse on their careers. And bemoan the club when we don’t sign ‘em.

These past two seasons we’ve built squads to get us promoted from League One and to maintain our Championship status. It’s increasingly tedious reading social media and other sites how this window is “typical Latics”. Writing off our business a month before the window closes. Same goes for the ‘Gallagher to Clarke’ type comments. As if it’s a £5m deal or a free. The more obvious conclusion is we’re in the market for a couple of strikers.

Went though a very poor spell but came back stronger. £1m would be a bargain….£2m-£3m is not crazy. Would need to be 4-5 year contract as keepers mature later. Wouldn’t want him hitting top form in year two and letting his contract run out.

And yeah, I’d take Wildschut. Would be a calculated gamble but he fits closer to our style of play than McManaman.

Clarke was shit for the majority of the season and only decided to pull his finger out in the last few games as they do when contact time is on the horizon.
Windass hasn’t won the ball back once this season get rid and clear some other golden oldies out from the Dad’s Army Athletic.

So Lang won’t or can’t cut it for us even though he’s never been given a chance at Latics ?. Your crystal ball (bag) must be well polished, remarkable knowledge there. Have you ever given a thought that he might improve if given a chance ?.
Just 4 numbers for tonight’s Euro Lottery please I’m not greedy

We have a young squad. The experienced additions in January helped us. Even though injuries hindered some. I’ve seen Lang play plenty of times. He’ll give us a modest pay-day when he moves to a lower league team. Developing a pro player from our own youth ranks is still something to be proud of.

Clarke was integral to us staying up. They all collectively pulled their finger out. Like Garner, he had that little extra Vaughan (and arguably Grigg), didn’t have. We’ll still need at least two good additions up front.

As for Windass, I don’t really care how many balls he wins back. Or if he puts himself around. His game is running off the last man. My worry is his attitude and if he’s settled. Doesn’t matter how good a player is. They need to be happy off the field.

Windass has shown real moments of quality. But his head isn’t right. Needs to settle down or I could see him off.

Looking above at some of the ‘Out’ lists. I’d certainly keep Kipre, Garner and Clarke. Kipre still very young, Garner came on strong, and Clarke has the experience we need.

As for Lang, he deserves a pre-season with us. But he’s already in his early 20’s and I’m not sure if he’ll make it at Championship level. If a bid of £250K-£500K came in I’d certainly consider it.

Trouble is most of our best youngsters are 15-17. So I wonder how many are upto the Championship physically.

Would be ideal for someone like Lang. But of course he’s better off getting experience, playing each week, for Oldham.

I can’t remember the last time it was all done and dusted by Easter. Maybe the EPL regular fixtures end earlier this season. Always seemed to go well into May before our future sorted.

What’s more, when you look back at both games, it was two relatively unflustered wins.
