My favourite memories are walking up Ingram St towards Springy on a Saturday afternoon with 2 ounce of Sports Mixture purchased from that Newsagents on Woodhouse Ln near the old Chapel. As you approached the ground you could hear the announcer bloke naming the South Sheilds / Matlock / Scarborough etc.team incorrectly!!!! Then as you climbed the incline looking on with territorial pride at the graffiti safety info daubed on the boundary walk “To all away fans, collect your coffins at the main entrance” or was that written post 78???? Good times though!

Late reply, been too busy celebrating!!! Been a brilliant season, Sunday was a game too far for the lads after the hard work done since the turn of the year, those hard fought 1-0 wins in March/ April did the business. However it was a brilliant day and atmosphere with a full compliment of Barnsley fans in red and the the three other sides in blue with plenty of songs and banter between the both with ‘stand up if you’re going up’ sung by both sets of fans when we were 4-1 down!!! Love the strapline ‘Biggest Little Club in England’ though we should work on that as our club Moto complete with song!!!!

FA CUP….Without a doubt! I began watching the Tics in the NPL and traveled to cup matches against City in 71 and Birmingham in 78 as a lad along with a number of trips to Grimsby, Wrexham, Sheffield Wed. etc.in between! Sat 11/05/13 was my birthday!!!! I had supported the team for 40 odd years by then and watched my team lift the FA CUP stood next to my Dad, brother-in-law and two sons all of who are die hard Tics fans…..The Cup everytime for me a day I will never forget!

Anyone tuning into the other semi-final on TV and unaware of the situation yesterday would have beleieved that our fans were complicit in those disgraceful scenes. WE WERE NOT!!!!!!!!!!

The media sticks the boot into little Wigan once again

                        Adrian Childs = Baggies Nob

Latics media dept should contact ITV and Millwall to qualify that statement now because if left in challenged the story will grow and come tea-time tomorrow Adrian Duram on Talk South will have labelled all 100 of us who turned up yesterday as vicious thugs

Millwall Chairman says that all those involved will be brought to justice and “Both clubs were involved!!!!!!!!!!”

Yes a wedge and a putter maybe nowt to do with Wigan!

                          This incident has been and gone, lots said and discussed etc and I had no intention of adding to the debate however;

I overheard a conversation between two Everton fans during the week, they were discussing the lower reaches of the current Premiership table and their current predicament. The conclusion that they finaly arrived at during the complementary cheese and buiscuits was that they would have been a place above Wigan had Carl Henry not commited THAT takle and got himself dismissed. Wolves would have beaten Wigan with 11 men!!!!!!

Well lets add them to list of persons subscribing to this theory: Mick McCarthy, Carl Henry, Adrian Durham, Andy Goldstein, Danny Kelly, Alvin Martin, Daz from Wolverhampton, that cockhead Burnley fan who used to read the sports news on N/W tonight, Harry Harris, *Brian (I hate Wigan) Read * Dave calling 606 to show his condemnation for the tackle but support for the Wolves, Jason Cundy, Stan Collymore, Stevie Bull, Derick Doogan, Noreen from Stowheath who was sure we would have won, Alan Brazil, Terry from Bilston who spent the last of his Giro traveling to Wigan in vain. They all ( I may have made one or two up) stated on national TV or radio that it was a given that Wolves would have won had Henry not been red carded !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, and please forward this to the Wolves site for discussion, but Wovles were Barry Wight from start to finish in my opinion!!!!!! They were the worst team (apart from the Tics on occasions) that I have seen at the JJB/DW since we got promoted to the Premier league. Devoid of any creativity they came with one McCarthy induced game plan to bully their way to a point.

I have no problem with the way Wolves approached the game, that is up to them. However if I hear one more person (especialy Talk Sh1te) state that the only reason that a pathetic Wolves team lost the match was due to the fact that they were reduced to 10 men I will attempt to break their legs with a Kung Fu-esk slide tackle.

WIGAN WOULD HAVE WON ANYWAY WOLVES WERE DIRE

Have you noticed that whenever the Worriers have a disapointing attendance it always accidentaly ommited from the match Stats in the W.E.P. !!!!!!!

However, if they play Saint Widnes Doodahs or Yorkshire City Dinosauar Yellow Socks on a decent Bank Holliday Monday afternoon which attracts a decent crowd of pensioners on a trip down memory lane the back page write up would start “IN FRONT OF A CROWD OF NEARLY TWENTY THOUSAND ETC. ETC.” And the stat count would be fully highlighted in bold type including Tries, kicks, Up and Overs, knock Offs, all under the all important ATTENDANCE !

Now before you start Rugger fans Ive no gripe with either the W.E.P. or Wigan Cherry and Beige Walruss Wanderers, it is just an observation.

Dave Whelan has said he won’t sack Roberto but I think it has gone too far now.Nobody seems to UNDERSTAND his reasoning,in his selections, his substitutions, etc, etc. It seems to me he is not at the same game as anyone else.It will not get better!!! WHAT can we mere mortals do.Thats my lottttttttttttttttt

i asked tonight can i have van persie for the next goal at the dw stadium b4 kick off n got turned down . bloody rubbish bookies !!!!!!!!![/quote]

Not sure if we will stay up this season but I do have sneaking suspicion that we will ! Unbelieveably there are worse teams than us in Hull and Burnley and I honestly think that the the league positions will conclude as they are tonight.

However and whatever the consequences of this season unfold one fact has become apparent MARTINEZ IS A TERRIBLE MANAGER. He must be either sacked (though this prospect looks remote as Dave really likes him) or persuaded to leave the club come the end of the season. I don’t know how this can be achieved, how about someone reminds him of the fantastic sunny climate in his homeland and how his Scotish bride would look dead fit with a nice tan. Anything tell him that the Peseta is being re-introduced, King Juan Carlos wants him as his own personal stylist, tell him that Jason Scotland has coppied those bribe pictures of Roberto and Mrs Kumas and is about to publish them in the Obby. Anything I don’t care what but the man MAN HAS TO GO at the end of the season, Premier League or Championship. How about a 10 year scouting mission to Latin America, anything !!!!!!!

I heard someone comment tonight “we have not got a plan B” This bloke has not even got a plan A

out of his depth by some way

He is, or appears to be a nice bloke, but he couldn’t manage a good dump !

That game in particular caught the interest of the Wigan public, maybe because it was the first time for a while they’d got drawn against a first division league club. It was a very cold day and I rememer trying to get a local referee to call of our game on Laithwaite Park so I could go, which I managed (that wasn’t too difficult as those who remember playing there will testify)

The game prior to the City match also caught the attention of the Wigan public if my memory serves me right! It was at home to South Shieds in the NPL and drew a crowd of over 8000 which stood as a record attendance in the NPL for some time …..I think (no research done, honest)

I was there and at the City match and can recall both vividly, despite being only 7 years old at the time. My grandma knitted me a blue and white scarf for the match, which I still have along with a family photo of me wearing this outside Maine road some 30 odd years before Manccinni made the style his own!!!

I can also recall being allowed to stay up and watch the game on M.O.T.D and wondering why my 13 year old brother again started crying when Colin Bell scored that goal ! I was still at that age when I was glad just to be watching my team play, to be shouting and singing and the result was only a matter of minor coincidence. I would say that this attitude changed the during the following season especialy when we when we lost at Wembley, long journey home that one!

Anyway, point of the matter, the Man City match was my Dads favourite Tics game despite watching them from Cheshire league days untill now where he is a season ticket holder of over 20 odd years and he still talks about Jeff Davies, Joe Fletcher (who he was mates with) Gilly, Denis Reeves, Billy Southerland, Kenny Morris etc. with great fondness . He turned 70 a couple of years ago and I attempted to get the M.O.T.D. programme from that famous night on DVD for him as a gift. I thought that I had a good chance as I have a really good contact in a senior BBC researcher who is based in London. Despite numerous calls and favours requested I was told directly by a bloke from the BBC archive dept. that the recording of the programme had not been saved and no compilation video/DVD of FA Cup goals of the round had been made !! I wasn’t convinced but never got any further in this matter.

Still that 20 second clip on You tube brought the memories flooding back. Colin Bell, the wanker, I’m glad he hurt his knee !!!!!!!!!!!
